Worldcom was the victim of unscrupulous accounting practices engineered by corporate corruption. Some of the top execs have already been indicted and more heads will roll.
Why should the federal gov't give taxpayer $$$ to a bunch of crooks?
You can find 'em in the checkout aisles at Home Depot, Lowe's, WalMart, Sam's Club, etc.
I usually grab a bundle and chuck 'em in the trash bin on the way out.

Goodness Gracious, of apathy I sing The baby boomers had it all and wasted everything now recess is almost over, and they won't get off the swing

They also have deep pockets to finance squelching operations.
And where do they get these deep pockets? Not just their members.
Are you on Earthlink? Fact: that ISP was started (and is still operated) by Scientologists.
They have a deep understanding of the power and reach of the legal system.
Not only that, their members are encouraged to lie and deceive. They have used slander and libel against their critics and have blackmailed third parties into making false accusations on record.
And, finally, the method used for "hiding" the MS software doesn't help much for those who don't want to use them...
I use a failsafe method to "hide" MS software.
When WINxx boots, hit F8 and boot to command prompt.
Delete everything in C:\Program Files\Outlook Express
Delete everything in C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player
Delete everything in C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer
If you try this from Explorer it will give you the old "sharing violation" excuse and refuse to let you delete it. Deleting at the command prompt via F8 at bootup works. Go figure.
You might have to manually delete all references to the removed directories in the register.
Anybody familiar with the Chinese language? The language includes symbols for letters of the alphabet and for whole words or groups of words. Hundreds of symbols. It wouldn't surprise me that they used mirror images of the same symbol to represent two different meanings.
For those non-english reading Chinese citizens, using a mirror to read Chinese symbols would be a challenge.
This blows away Netscape and IE. I was attracted by the pop-up blocker, but what won me over was that it imports profiles, preferences, and bookmarks from IE and NS. Sweeeeeeeet, no manual conversion needed.
...a DFM (Digital Financial Management) spyware that that reports from Sony to its customers where and how it delegates the money they collect from sales.
They want to know where their money goes; fair enough, I want to know where my money goes too.
Hmmm, some shady accounting tricks here. Hmmm, extravagant expenses at the **AA meetings. Hmmm, campaign contributions to politicians. Hmmm, large payouts to federal lobbyists. Hmmm, who is "our man Kaplan"?
Why haven't the laws been applied to anyone at Enron?
Not to defend Enron, but what you suggest would be very dangerous. Enron got away with the loot because at the time there was no law defining their activities a crime. The recent law came into reality because of the national impact of Enron's descent, but our Constitution forbids enacting any law that is retroactive.
Before the United States existed it was common practice to imprison someone and then enact a law making their transgression a crime.
Let's envision Europe in 1452 where a lowly citizen named Joe Schmuck is protesting the king's latest taxes or the church in public. The authorities worry that Mr. Schmuck would cause rebellion and they would lose control of the population; but he was breaking no law. They would arrest citizen Joe and while he was sitting in prison they would enact a law making his transgression a crime and convict him. Joe would be convicted without a fair trial, rot in prison the rest of his life, and all the kingdom would soon remember him no more and "peace" would be restored.
Needless to say this was a tool that was abused for centuries on defenseless citizens. It still happens today in totalitarian countries.
The founding fathers of the USA were well aware of this abuse and drafted the Constitution forbidding any such practice. They had the common defenseless citizen in mind, but could not possibly envision the rise of Corporate America and the accounting abuses like those at Enron.
Anyone who like to go back to the dark ages, let's see some hands. Anybody?
As much as we all despise the crap they committed and got away with it, we should ask ourselves if we would want to be judged of the same measure we judge others.
I have a Flashpath adapter for the floppy drive. I originally bought it for the digital camera and have since used it for backing up data with high density SmartMedia cards (64MB, 128MB, etc). It has replaced my HP T1000 tape drive which Windoze somehow rendered inoperative by stealing a precious interrupt.
Tapes are a pain... Data transfer between WINNT/2K and WIN31/95/98 is impossible, neither reads the other formats.
All I need is the Flashpath drivers installed on any PC and I can read/write the contents of a SmartMedia card just like a standard floppy, which means that a simple DOS command line "XCOPY/s/m *.* a:" backs up all data ready for archiving. Flashpath provides drivers for WIN31, WIN95/95, WINNT, WIN2K, and even Mac. Drivers and DOS commands take up a lot less disk space than fancy backup GUIs. Ah, the power of a single DOS command...
Faster access than a tape, better data retention than most media, works on most popular OS, and no stupid proprietary format to worry about. Floppy drives are everywhere, but try and find a machine with a tape drive installed...
For those PCs not online or for data that is too sensitive to transfer over a network, it's the ideal data transfer tool. This is also perfect when I complete the transition from PC to Mac.
That floppy drive is the single most useful thing in my computer. The PC manufacturers greatly underestimate its value.
Where does the xxAA get their $$$ to buy politicians?
Everytime we see a movie in the theater (ching!), rent a movie at blockbuster (ching!), buy movie-theme-based products (ching!), watch through premium cable channels like HBO etc (ching!), buy a DVD/VHS (ching!), buy blank tapes/CDRs and pay the "pirate tax"(ching!), buy an audio CD of your favorite artist (ching!) we feed this monster.
I haven't been to a movie since 1999 and I quit watching TV since 2000.
