    but how many of us look at every line of code in a distibuted or outsourced project

    * How many of us ship viruses with a state of the art costly development environment which will be used by thousands of developers ?

    *Does outsourcing absolve you from such things ? Are not open source products outsourced if you mean people from distributed geographical locations working on it ?

    * There are absolutely no excuses to this kind of fsck ups. Can't they just checksum stuff , keep a list of files somewhere. For someone who claims how secure their systems are , such a fsck up , eventhough it is not going to affect anyone goes to show how easy it is subvert closed software packages. I often wonder whether it will be possible to ship a Nimda/Klez with the Linux Kernel ?

    No you are not. Its not what fscking OS you are running, it about what OS and applications are running on the system to which you gave your credit card number and your SSN. Its about what OS your company runs to store the employee databases. You can hide your head in sand and pretend that you are safe ofcourse..

    If you were a manager and wanted your employees to read a PDF, what piece of software would you want on their machines?

    assuming i was a manager , i would know that my employees do not read documents , whatever format they are in ..they just post on slashdot and play games..

    on another vien ...i could use
    * xpdf
    * konqueror can view pdf files
    * pdf2ps > gs

    There are more good things to discuss than these.
    If theres a internal leak at Microsoft its news here. If theres an article somewhere discussing them its news here. To a point its good but after a point it just looks like a unionist discussion forum..

    disables another piece of software for which that person has paid good money What do you mean by disable? It writes into a file and thats all (well think service packs!). The Spying software itself gets disabled. Anyway trusting such a lame software for privacy is idiotic. Any good antispying software must be a a part of the OS. I guess both these are Windows only problems (anyway if you use XP , why do you need privacy?).
