I think you need to learn to say what you mean and take things in context. When someone says, "US Government" most people think of the US Federal Govt., not state. The discussion was about what the federal government had done..and could and could not do.
The US Federal Government did NOT make gambling online illegal. They passed a bill that disallows US banks/money transfer businesses/credit card companies from making money transfers to online gambling sites. Most US banks and credit card companies were already NOT doing that anyway, so...the bill is largely redundant anyway. All they did was just make -that- illegal.
1) The US government clearly has the authority to make it illegal for a US citizen, inside the US to gamble, on or off the internet. Such laws already exist and have existed for MANY decades.
No, actually they don't. The federal govt. would like you to THINK they do, but the reality is the US Govt cannot do so. The laws that existed prior to what got snuck into the safe port act have to do with interstate gambling. e.g.: Me, in Missouri, placing bets on the phone to a bookie in California. They can't pass a law that makes online gambling illegal in all 50 states because they don't have the jurisdiction to enforce it anywhere except DC, guam, puerto rico, or other federal -territories-. States are sovereign in that respect.
The STATES themselves do have the authority and -do- have the laws that prohibit gambling anywhere other than what's spelled out as legal in the gaming laws within that state.
That all being said, me doing something in the privacy of my own home, between consenting adults, is fine so long as no one's constitutional rights are violated.... is our business...and not the state or the federal govt.
WINE isn't an Emulator - just like it's name says.
It presents a win32 api and binary loader for windows binaries. It doesn't translate the x86 code to anything, it runs it natively and provides the function calls the windows programs expect.
That's why it's intel only. x86 binaries don't just magically run on ppc.
What you're getting is 230k from your usb port to your phone. You're not actually getting those speeds unless 1) You've changed a hidden setting on your phone that will let it go full bore 230k if it's available and 2) You're in an area that actually supports those speeds....and even if you do are in one of those areas, chances are that the network is congested to the point where you won't get it except for maybe 3 minutes somewhere between 3-5am =)
In benchmarking terms, the baseline comparison would be listed as 100%. Anything compared to that baseline would be relative to that 100%. A 75% improvement in performance would be listed as 175%, but it's still only 75% BETTER than your baseline (100%) comparison.
175% in the context of how much MORE he improved his performance means that he would have had to more than double (almost triple) his performance. When you make a 75% profit on $5 you now have $8.75, not $13.75 (which would be 175% profit)
The problem isn't client to server latency. Usually that's pretty decent. The problem lies in the fact that they are trying to serve too many realms per database server. They need to give each realm it's own DB server and be done with it.
...they're making what looks like to be a very nice linux clone of Cubase VST32.
But until either Apple ports MacOS X to intel in it's entirety (not just darwin) or Digidesign ports ProTools to Linux, you won't really see any studios running Linux for their bread and butter. ProTools is the industry standard...and for very good reasons. I hope they do port it someday....I'd be one of the first in line to buy a copy.

Umm.. that -is- what he's just done. That's what this entire article is about.
Personally I'd be far more worried about the exhaust fumes and whether or not I'd still be alive to enjoy the electricity they are providing.
Sure would keep ya toasty (and probably dead) in the winter tho!
I haven't heard Grisoft (AVG) complain about this either.
Makes one wonder...
99% of the computer using market doesn't read slashdot. Whether they care or not is of little relevance to this site.
23ms here.
To the asshat that submitted this story with direct links. Thank you very little for slashdotting the OSX86 community!
THINK before submit stories, people!!!
Maybe Mac^2?
Let me know when you have a whole lab of these networked and synced together playing like an orchestra. THEN you might have something!!

Sorry, no, you're still confused.

Yep... wonder what happened there?! Hoax?
I think this would be more apropos:
"It just Blue Screens"
Given the history of their innovations and showing of those innovations...I think this would be perfect.
Is Verizon actually calling it "Naked DSL"?
If they are...can't wait to see the commercials for it.
Wow...I can almost hear the inrush of flame-mails cascading thru the Internet all headed to CowboyNeal's INBOX.
Hilary Clinton... used the word 'diss' in a sentence? Hilary Clinton?!?...
Isn't that one of the signs of the Apocalypse???!?!
Are we sure it wasn't George Clinton?....

I've seen reports on the WoW forums where some Linux users have gotten it to work and work very well with Transgaming's Cedega (formerly WineX)
...these features that won't make retail have been known for quite some time that they won't be in retail. No big news here.....
-- but the FAA maintains there were no "near misses."
Bwah?.... You mean ALL the planes crashed into each other and not a single one missed any other?
Wow..that's got to be the worst aviation disaster in history. Funny, I haven't heard anything on the news about it.
Well, he ran it through the spell checker, but maybe the next innovation M$ should put in Word is a grammar checker.
