Cameron delivers. And Hollywood needs him to now, most especially because if Avatar can repeat the success of Titanic, the movie execs win a huge battle in the fight against piracy, and in the struggle to re-sell their catalogues yet again on Blu-ray....

What causes you to think that? Have they filed for bankruptcy? Is there some indication they were failing? Well, the first bad sign I noticed is when they were a no-show at the SuperComputing 07 conference last November. They had a booth, and were noted in the program, but had pulled out late.
That's funny, I usually go through 2-5 movies a week depending on how I veg on sundays, and I have always had the movie I want, even the new releases within two days of putting them in the mailbox on my house. In fact, I can pick out a couple movies just recently that showed up at my house the tuesday they were released on dvd.
I've met people that get the 8 moves at a time and rip the dvd's as soon as the get them, then return the 8 movies the next day. That seems to be the thing the throttling was designed for, and personally havn't experienced anything negative with the whole netflix experience, other than a couple damaged or mislabled disks in several years and literally hundreds of movies.
When they moved their digs to the smaller office space after one of the downsizings I went down and picked up a whiteboard, a couple garbage cans and some cubicle-type corner desks and tables for a song.
I was on a jury where the judge had considered throwing the case out, but decided that so much money was on the line, and the litigants were prestigious enough that if they had their day in court they wouldn't have any way to grumble about not having a fair public voice. So I endured weeks of boredom and anger at these people for their foolishness.
I'd been reading William Gibson a lot several years ago and I fell asleep at a party next to one of my friends. During the night I dreamed I was being forced to insert Maas Biochips into other people so They could be controlled. I woke up pushing my thumb into her back trying to get the chip to go in.
You can spend all your time trying to extend your life by not living it to your fullest and still get hit by a truck. Eat good food, work out and have fun, because you never know what happens tomorrow anyway.
Actually, when Caldera moved to their new building it was furnished. They liquidated a lot of office furniture and I got a few tables, some whiteboards and a couple garbage cans for $25
I think this is one of those things that is kind of sneaking up on a lot of people and is going to hit all at once, providing we can keep it from getting squished before it gets a chance.
I tend to agree with this... Why when I was in High School in the 80's we were forced to learn to code using punch cards because if we knew that skill, according to the teacher, we would get the job over somebody that didn't know how to punch cards.
She must have been right, because I'm still working while my friends are getting laid off left and right...
I guess it depends in which format they save the digitized copies. If they are.doc, I really don't believe they will be useful for as long as the clay tablets have been around.
Maybe they should bring in Jacob Nielson to advise them to save it in strict ASCII.
They (the hotel/casino's) do play visual tricks on you. If you take a look at the mirage hotel you see that there are big windows and you get a feeling for the size, but once you get into a room you realize that the floor to ceiling window is only 1/4 of the total window size, you also share that window with a floor either above or below and also a room on one side. That makes the building appear to be only 25% as big as it really is from the outside.
On another note, we were at the old Freemont Street section of town when a handfull of our group decided to go look for a pub (don't do it, there are no pubs in downtown vegas) and we ended up walking the miles to the stratosphere because half of the group wouldn't believe it was much farther than it appeared. Like sheep we all followed along, but it was quite an adventure. That is a side of vegas tourists rarely see at 1:00 in the morning.
Heh, too late... If you have a cell phone, they can already track you. There have even been cases where European telcom's have been required by the government to divulge the location of a cell phone at a certain time within a 6 month period because they keep a database of the whereabouts of every cell phone as long as it's turned on. (That was actually mentioned on a story on slashdot, but it's been a couple of years)
Sigh... Do you fantasize about your job?
Sounds like you've been reading Charles Stross... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Atrocity_Archives
I only got as far in the article as:

That and their website hadn't changed in months.

You left out Strange Luck. I wish that would come out on dvd.
My tuition break is not tax free. It's taxed as a benefit and taken out each semester.

I bet if Turner is still in one piece he could get him out.

I can think of a few people that could be classified as a 'work'...
Michael Jackson springs to mind...
Or at least Geddy Lee...
It's not raining today.
If I was one of the few people that keep getting shot in the club... I wouldn't go back.
I, Cringely had this to say about UWB.

That's one of my favorite Kent Brockman statements... right behind "...which, if true, means death for us all."
-go ahead, moderate me offtopic
You are allowed to go to the bathroom, but you'd best be sure to miss a commercial with which you are already familiar.
You don't want to do poorly on the test.
Eyes front! Stop Talking!....are you chewing GUM?

Metric System! Bah! My car gets forty rods to the hogshead and that's the way I like it!
Around here there are tons (heh) of handwritten signs posted on corners and at freeway offramps that say, "I lost 30 pounds".
....".
I've always wanted to go down a little farther and put up one that says "Found, 30 pounds. To claim email
But, alas, I also am too lazy.
