    Apple Care is extended warranty, and is not insurance. I doubt you would get a replacement for notebook either.

    The difference is most of what you pay is tax, that gives you a lot of benefits in return. In the US, it goes into the pockets of Big Oil, never be seen again.

    Get a refund. I purchase a lot of music from Amazon. If I dont find the quality acceptable, they always give a refund. Over 90% of their stuff is V0, about 5% 256 CBR, about 2-3% V2(or old APS), and rest are rare FGH encoded, transcoded ones and lower bitrate ones. I have send them all sort of screen shots, some proving it was transcoded from a lower bitrate to higher bitrate. They are always happy to know that they have a bad rip and take it down pretty quickly.

    Er, most Amazon music is MP3 V0 (90%+). But agree with your point, pretty much everyone is fine with a V0. There are only a handful of people that can differentiate V0 from a lossless.

    In the last 12 weeks, of the number of smartphones sold, 53% were Apple, 41.9% were Android, and 2.7% were Microsoft. This only accounts for the last 12 weeks. I have heard of some consolation prizes being unworthy of their title, but this one takes the cake. And the title totally misleading.

    Reforming people for their crimes by putting them in jail is not a bad solution at all. It is better to put them in the jail for the real crimes they have committed (the violent rampage, robbing, negligence etc), instead of lobotomizing them.
     
    You might as well suggest hanging them for being drug addicts, instead of lobotomy. It would be more humane to kill them.

    What I would like to see is the web go back to geocities. Websites never consumed any significant resources, RAM/CPU consumption was most likely due to a bug, than website (like Slashdot) itself consuming it.

    I should have mentioned, I was using a touchpad (not a real mouse). The swipe gestures work both in desktop and metro mode. It is not able to interpret whether I am trying to move my mouse pointer to the right or I was using the swipe gesture (well, how could it).

    Nope. He means the way I try to move my mouse to the right to moderate something on Slashdot in Firefox, and Windows 8 thinks I am using the right swipe gesture and changes to next application (Weather if always open, and is very often the next app). That is what he means.

    What is an anti-gun agenda. One that tries to reduce the number of guns, so that the government can become more totalitarian and control its population with the guns the military owns? Because I cannot see any other anti-gun agenda. He makes is pretty clear why he does not like guns, and there doesnt seem to be a hidden agenda.

    It comes with being monopolies. Some countries like Sweden, have regulations to prevent abuse of monopolies. Even pass laws specifically for certain important services.
     
    In the US, you cannot say that you will not serve African American people in your restaurant, even though it is a private business. Private business doesnt mean you can choose to offer services. This true in pretty much any country.

    Care to mention any IRC channels or DCC hubs where I can download stuff. I thought not. I can point you to a number of usenet indexes and servers. That is advantage of usenet is, you dont need secrecy, and you dont get nailed like bittorent.

  22. No one compelled him to take a GPL code and extend it. When he took upon himself to use GPL code, he has agreed to release the source code, when he distributes the binaries of his derived work. So I do believe in forcing others to give away their source code (when I have purchased their binary). And I do believe in forcing others to pay for my work (especially when I have paid for the binaries).

    Binaries never killed usenet. It only forced some providers to go text only (there are many and pretty much all are free, google them). Email and groups (yahoo groups, gmail groups and other newsletter service) is what really killed usenet.

    The problem is, they are making it worse every year, and it is difficult to change my email address. So many people have my gmail address that, I would never want to lose my gmail account. This sort of hook and exploit should be illegal.
