"Creating a compatible interpreter is not the same as pirating software"
This means that creating WINE is not the same as trading mp3s, and it's not the same as creating a trading ground for mp3s. They are not even closely related.
Repeat after me: DeCSS, kid in jail.
Hell, I agree with you, but the fact is that we have to stop thinking logically and start previewing how they will try to abuse us.
I'm sorry, but I think you really mean GNU/MySQL...
No, seriously, I'm annoyed by/. misleadingly speaking of the "commercial" version of MySQL instead of talking about the "other license" or "proprietary"
They're really waiting for Star/Open(Office ) to catch fire. That way they can compete with Windows (and beat the crap out of M$) without fearing retaliation.
Obviously, if broadcasting less than 483 active lines was illegal, all U.S. stations transmitting letterboxed movies would have by now lost their licenses.
Well, stations broadcasting letterbox movies are sending the whole lines, they're just black ones. The legality of this issue relates to the concessions on the airwaves, and the signal is exactly the same.
Can the Computer Modern fonts be rewritten, converted in any way to TrueType? Then we really need no new design, Knuts fonts are great and time-tested.
I do not think Mr. Perens will be breaking the law. The law forbids trafficking in a circumvention device. Speech is not a device except when that 'speech' can function, such as with software (or so the court ruled in the DeCSS case). Simply telling someone how to circumvent region coding does not violate the DMCA, unless you 'tell' someone by providing software that can do it.
That's only beacuse they don't really pay for it. Most businesses and even government agencies in the third world don't license their software, merely install illegal copies.
There is an easier way to bargain with these guys. Linus Torvalds has a trademark on the name Linux, so he could certainly put these guys to sweat. Just imagine I make my own cola drink and call it BetterCocaCola....
I believe such a hypothetical situation is why Linus decided not to work for a Linux company in the first place.

No, no, no....remember Leia's last name is Organa?? She goes to live with Senator Bail Organa and his wife, or something like that. I don't see Padme going with Sen. Organa!
FALSE, these use DSP's. They decode WMA, how is it any harder to make them decode OGG?
Well, use it, test it, and THEN post. This is just speculation.

VHDL anyone?
They just travel back in time to recharge the batteries....
Well, they're Linux compatible because they have a PostScript interpreter. I have a Laser printer from Lexmark and they're great.

I was not even stating this uC is any good. The original question was HOW POWERFUL does a Microprocessor need to be in order to decompress OGG, ok?
A microprocessor suggestion would be nice.

Guess somebody saw Minority Report....
Tell that to Skylarov and 2600.

But Free, he was not.
Well, the urine tests are already here...the straight jackets...you know, they have to be embroided with the corporate logo...

After all, this was the only POSIX/UN*X/OS that could bear the name UNIX. Everything else is called something else: Solaris, AIX, Linux, BSD...
What do you expect us to write back? You already know the opinion of the /. crowd.

Sure, like PayPai.com a couple of years ago?
No, it means everyone.
