I believe they should be using Python for teaching now. It is not masochistic and frustrating like some of the "professional" languages. You can learn procedural or OOP with it. It comes with very good documentation. It is available in Windows, unices and the Mac. It is very complete, with bindings and libs to do almost anything. It is not too verbose and strict (I'm thinking Java here)

Pity they're going with Java for beginners nowadays...

No, these are twisted smaller wires, uninsulated, acting together just as a cable. This is not twisting as in twised pair, since the connectors are in contact and thus become a single connector. Maybe not in your best interest.

Thinking coldy, even if one would support a war on Iraq because of, say, oil, you'd like to make it so that the US could get cheaper, more stable supplies of oil. But a barrel just hit 50 USD this week.

Probably not in your best interest, but in Halliburton's best interest, maybe. If you are in the oil business... 50 USD a barrel doesn't sound bad...

For some years now, there has been at least one Linux distribution. Zipspeak is a variant of zipslack (Slackware for UMSDOS)that supports several voice synth cards.

The Speakup Project produces a screen reader that is used in the above distro.

There is also a Knoppix based distro called Oralux, that will also support braille terminals (these are usually one line at a time vt100 emulators) connected to a serial port.

I know this does not solve the map problem, but this, along with Links, for example, will give any vision impaired person far more tools that are available in Windows, for instance.
