unfortunately, i have to agree here for 2 simple reasons:

    1. thanks to half-baked crap like Linpus Linux that was only put on Acer REVOs so that people can install their own pirated version of Windows afterwards, I personally know at least 3 people who got burned by it and would never even consider buying anything with Tux on it. (The version that was on Acer Aspire One netbook was kind of all-rightish though.)

    2. thanks to Acer and Asus (and later also Dell/Lenovo), only the shittiest of shitty hardware was ever sold with GNU/Linux on it and that is how people remember GNU/Linux computers. The squeaky plasticky computers that lasted 42.5 minutes on a single charge, had unresponsive touchpad the size of a coin and took 50 seconds to open a Word document.

Thank you Acer/Asus. If you two were people, I'd run you over with a car.

I find the kind of drm Packtpub do with their ebooks more acceptable. i.e.: make sure the application displays the buyer's name and address somewhere at all times. That way, the users themselves will protect the application from getting into the wrong hands. And if it gets onto the internets, you know who leaked it.

I do understand this means more work for you (recompile a part of your app for every single customer) but it is also a lot less trouble for the user (not having to mess around with registrations, serials, etc).

    * no corner print shop that would print or copy your handmade flyers
    * no phones for 99% of inhabitants
    * almost no roads, little available fuel, almost no cars to use, impossible to physically reach significant number of people
    * the only big gatherings that ever happen are organised by the party, for party's purposes
    * even the three catholic churches they have in pyongyang have party appointed ministers instead of priests
    * 30-50% of people around you would rat you out for a loaf of bread, the others for 2 loaves (even if they agree with you)

You cannot call everything not explained by modern science a fairytale/magic/fantasy. Modern science is too young for that (less than a century).
If we assume there can be only 1 truth, then all true scientific explanations of facts of our universe MUST also be accepted by believers as true explanations of stories mentioned in bible.
Personally, I wish science would hurry up so I don't have to guess what the true nature of a story, told to uneducated simpletons 3000 years ago, was. I, for one, DO understand that 3000 years ago, every story that didn't revolve around markets, goats and haggling must have been seen as a magical tale meant to be exaggerated.
