My state (and many others) already have annual vehicle inspection requirements which record the odometer reading, among other things. And it's already a crime to tamper with the odometer. This is the data that Carfax is reporting to anybody willing to part with with $30 and a VIN number. So the infrastructure for a mileage tax at the federal level is already in place.
This "research" project has the distinct aroma of pork, and will no doubt be contracted out to the companies with the most to gain from implementing this plan.
And don't even get me started about the NSA. If they will tap your phone without a warrant, you better believe they will be tracking every inch of movement of every vehicle in the country.
ddresuce (or dd_rescue) is a better choice here, because instead it will write zeros in place of read errors, so that successfully read block later on are in the right place. You can also set it to retry error block multiple times, and record progress to a log file so you can resume the retries at a later time.
AT&T prices their unlimited data plans according to the internet capabilities of your phone. My HTC (WM6) is $30 a month, while my wife's Sony/Ericsson is only $20. My phone theoretically does tethering (Start | Settings | Connection | Wireless Modem) even though I do not have a tethering plan, but I have not had the opportunity to try it out yet.
Usually, your assumption would be correct, but Metallica is one of the few bands that does retain their own copyrights. This is probably why they were so vocal back in the Napster days, and why these comments from Lars are newsworthy.
I heard the interview on Eddie Trunk's XM show a couple weeks ago, and got a chuckle out of it. He could remember the name of what he used to do the download, but something he said (I don't remember exactly what) gave me the impression it was one of the bittorrent clients.
You may not like the "Dashboard" (or whatever they call it) but its fine for the Mini 12 my kids use, and you can disable it to get to a normal Gnome desktop. Ours arrived in January still running 8.04, even though 8.10 had been out several months.
i think it would be more of hassle trying get a linux distro, than a free available-everywhere pirate of a windows os
I know. It's so difficult to find a linux distribution these days. Ever since linux distros had to go underground I have to search the far dark corners of the internet to find a working download. If I want a copy locally, I have to go to the seedy part of town and down some dark alleyway whispering to the dealer who will get me my linux fix. Oh! If only linux were freely available from universities, computer geeks, and the internet!
How many millions is a Brazilian?
I'm getting embiggened just thinking about it.
+1 Immature

That sounds like enough to pay for the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything!
Unfortunately, it will probably be a double-blind study, so you've got a fifty-fifty shot at winding up in the control group.
I, for one, welcome our new happiness enforcing overlords.
Also from a very old Mel Brooks movie. But aren't they all?

What is needed is proper oversight.
That's the whole problem. The NSA has been in charge of cyber-security for the entire nation for years. They junt don't want anyone to know about it.

"There's nothing wrong with PEN and TELLER"
How's that relevant?
I disagree. There is something very wrong with those guys. They're crazy.
... is a bad month to be an astronaut.
I'm much prefer sysadmin day and talk like a pirate day.
I am looking forward to this year's Talk Like a Somali Pirate Day! *splash* *gasp* *gurgle* *glug*
I don't see a The Daily WTF clone for the construction industry. Maybe that could be related.
Go to any construction site and listen for a while. I can guarantee you will hear a real life WTF before long.
It depends on whether you print them at 8 points or 12.
Bestbuy doesn't ask for your address during returns/exchanges at least they didn't for me yesterday.
That's because they already have you on file. Nice to know, huh?
She turned me into a newt!
I got better ...

There, fixed that for ya.
ABEND? Restore from tape? This guy is a UNIX Sysadmin, not a mainframe operator. Let's get into the 1990's, at least.
