"Going against a long Boeing tradition of giving the pilot complete control of the aircraft, the MAX's new MCAS automatic flight control system was designed to act in the background, without pilot input"
The Vegas odds tonight stand at an unprecedented 1000 to 0. A bet of zero dollars on this not passing paying pays 1000 dollars. Still, very few takers.
The Toys R Us locations make sense. Now let's take their data tracking / customer profiling to the next level and create a store much like what was Service Merchandise. Order darn near anything in advance and they'll ship it that day to the store for you to pick it up. Shop there and they have the common items / trends ready to sold. Product that doesn't sell / needed elsewhere returns to the warehouse on the trucks making the deliveries and shifted to other locations as needed.
Unexpectedly destroyed? Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz makes it quite clear that all the planning charts and demolition orders were on display for fifty Earth years.
Microsoft has "embraced" Linux more lately but in reality it's more that they understand Linux has a place and they want to control it. What better way than have Linux running on top of a Microsoft product. Microsoft still makes some cash and allows those who want Linux to bring it in while still claiming to be a Microsoft shop. Microsoft then just sits back and determines what Linux does for those environments and then develop a replacement application for that need. Or they could in some instances simply do the old way of how Microsoft did things, acquire the product and rebrand it as Microsoft. Keep it on Linux, since they can "manage" it, and they don't have to do any major work, just let that application continue to exist rebranded...
One that comes to mind is the case of Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. Of course he probably was a little biased because Gates is a friend of his. That whole situation was later to be determined that both people contributed to the outcome by their poor choices. That one did spark a lot of conversation and I believe a trip to the Whitehouse for both of them to have a beer and talk about it.
They also should recruit former soldiers who play video games, who have been in combat and have a sense how things work.
You'd get people who'd would try crazy stuff like.....
spoke of how an early effort of his to attach a gun to an unmanned ground vehicle was declined because if the gun were fired, it would flip the vehicle over.
It's a simulation, let them try it. The soldier already know chances are good it will flip but maybe not if the weapon is restricted to specific degrees over the front or rear of the vehicle. Just like the A-10. They just figured out to shoot that thing in short bursts to not drop it from the sky - i.e. don't do that!
Also a major problem in my opinion for combat soldiers in the military isn't when they are out in the field doing their job it's when they aren't and they are dealing with the politics / drama of being in the barracks. Make this open and available to as many as possible as much as possible to keep them occupied. Heck I would have been in the simulators we had every spare moment if they would have let me. That was a rare event though and it offered a lot of training time.
The foreseeable future means what 18 months tops before they try this yet again? At first you don't succeed try and try again and hope the consumers forget how you bailed on the market before.
Trying to come up with a cheaper way of doing the ground loop system is an excellent idea. Most of the cost is in drilling from what I was told by an installer who does those. This is something Elon Musk should have focused on instead of the Boring company. I have thought that ever since reading about the Boring company that they should have focused on ground loops. More chance for a return on investment instead that could then lead to those bigger dreams.
Next step solve the insulation problem. Figure out how to make aerogel cheaper or something makes a leap in other more easily made stuff and in a way that can be deployed easily in existing homes.
Either Opportunity will have an ally in it's endeavors or competition for domination with Curiosity. It should be interesting to see what XKCD does with this. Of course Opportunity will have to be able to hang around and prove it's stamina.
I checked my phone and I had voicemail. Confused and wondering how on earth someone did that I checked and it was a call about student loans that I have and how I can improve my savings. Weird because I never had a student loan.
Let's really call what ringless voicemail are. Another revenue stream for the Telcos. They could easily end that service. Start there first and fix the problem at the source.
Flashback time... I bought a Gameboy for that very reason. I was being deployed for Desert Shield and the later Desert Storm. It held up the entire time and for years beyond until the game pad had issues. It was in and out of sand, rain (yes it rained over there once like crazy), and a lot of abuse. It doesn't surprise me it survived a bombing - that thing was built nice. I played Tetris a lot and as much as I could. Which for me was a lot because we were in a hurry up and wait state. If it did anything for PTSD it only held it at bay for many years and maybe that explains some things. Maybe I need to start playing it again.

Often old and simpler is far better....
Remember being called an LPB back in the day?
Considering they had to fight for access to the utility poles I guess this was the other option.

I don't know if that really was the result or not but the incumbents tend to fight tooth and nail to stop access in more ways than just that.
It is also said to help lessen the effects of PTSD as reported previously on slashdot.

They can listen in on anyone. Think about those ramifications.

Yeah not a very smart bet...
I would suspect a few patents might get in the way...
"I won’t name names or give examples because I’m not an asshole."
Proceeds to throw out a couple names... Trump and Zuckerberg both who are right now easy targets.

Perhaps he should have stepped outside before posting this on the Internet.

Since they measured it they changed it.

Slashdot does nearly the same thing. Often I find it pointless to go read the article itself after all that was given here.
