  1. NEX II on Portable MP3 Player w/ Unix Support? · · Score: 1

I have a NEX II with 256 meg CF card and I use it while biking. It truely is tiny. As seen here. Slashdot did a article on it here. It also can support IBM Microdrives. It has never skipped for me and the battery life is great(15 hours as advertised). It also plays WMA files and VBR MP3 without a problem. It has support for lists, but it stinks(because you have to set it on the device and it does not save them after power off) so I use the RANDOM play feature. IT also has preset Tuning for BAss/Treble/etc, and you can do custom seting if wanted.

Downside to it is that the amp in it is not all that powerful, but thats fine since I use it only with headphones and not as a standalone player.

  2. What about Computer PVR? on Networks and Studios Against PVRs · · Score: 1

This has been mentioned EVERY time this PVR stuff comes up,
BUT what about a computer with a PVR like program and a TV capture card???? This has been out for YEARS and you can just send your friend/family with a computer the MPEG that you recorded...

  3. Wasteful on Limited-Use DVD Technology · · Score: 1

Is it me, or is that a waste of plastic? I mean, buy something in a plastic case, made of plastic and some chemicals, watch one time and then garbage it... I think this is STUPID.

  4. Open Source / Old Ways on Talk to Sun's 'Open Source Diva' · · Score: 1

My question is, if Sun opensources their OS, do you think many companys will not use it since they are afraid open source is a security problem?

What I mean is, the people that make decisions at large corps think of *nix's in Open source as a hackers play ground, leading to security problems.
I feel open source is a good way to improve code, but that is my opinion.

Take a look at that link, only talks about Linux for Playstation's, BOTH 1 and 2. It has downloads for linux playstation kernals and other things. The site looks to be using slashcode also. :)

    Enjoy.

  7. Cool stuff on JBoss Founder Interview · · Score: 1

I think this is a great project. We use Websphere where I work, and that product is cool to work with. The bigest problem is the price. I just hope they can get the program to be as good/BETTER then the expensive ones.

"Things like Dynamic proxies with compilation-less deployment have made us the darling of serious development shops"

Already showing it does stuff Websphere can not. How SWEET!!

When I was at Disney back in early 1990's I remember my parents giving me a "credit card" that was Disney's. I got food at the hotel we were at and it charged it to the room bill. This is mainly what you are talking about, so it has been done for over 10 years now.

  9. Road Runner = SCHWEET on Dump Broadband, Dig Out Your Modem! · · Score: 1

Ok, I am sick of the broadband bashing. I use Road Runner and I have NO problems with it. I split the connection with the D-Link DI-704 and then split from taht and have wireless networking and like 5 PCs running on RR at the same time. My DL rates are around 200kps and I think that is great. I know DSL sucks, and most people are seeing this, so get cable it works. For people who cant get RR... sorry, move to a city that does.

My first rant.... Just my opinions on this.

I learned CLISP during my last semester of College in my AI class(to ('01 Jan) ('01 May)) [Jan '01 to May '01]. I did not think it was all bad, the worst was making sure you have the right amount of ()'s matching.. This was solved with the ALMIGHTY VIM!! This handy editor color coded my code and made working in files a snap, also with the % command to see matching ()'s.

    Just My CS 2 cents.

  11. DLing TV Shows w/out Commercials on TV Networks Sue ReplayTV · · Score: 1

Ok, I have been downloading Star Trek Enterprise since it started because I can not get it in my area. I will not say what program I use because that is all I need is everyone using that and having another Napster attack... Anyway, my point is a generous person on this program tapes the show, strips Commercials and I download, burn to VCD, play in DVD player and I see a WHOLE 1 hr show in 45 minutes because of NO COMMERCIALS...

Also, VCR... They have been around and before that BETA tape. I could use the Triangle button pointing to the right, whats that do again?? Fastforward, skip ANNOYing commercials?? O yea, forgot about that... Stupid lawsuits, ruin all that is good....
Sorry, had to Rant for once.

  14. Education always going on How Much Do Employers Budget for Education? · · Score: 1

I work for EDS and I am part of a development program(just started a month ago fulltime)and there is tons of technical and bussiness training I MOST complete. As for normal employees any training they want is completely paid for IF they use the EDS Online University. They also are good at paying for parts of College education if needed. So EDS understands the need for education since everything is always changing. I guess that is why it is Second for IT companies. :)

  18. CS on CS vs CIS · · Score: 1

I am a CS major, entering my last semester in Jan. at St. John Fisher College. There is a big difference in CIS and CS, but it depends most on the College. At Fisher CS is a well rounded major, spaning Network Topology, Assembly Lang, C, VB, Unix, A.I., and many more specific courses. This is different where some of my friends are going, they focus on just programming. So I feel that it depends largely on the college.

BTW. MATH does suck, but once again, the amount of math required is different for every college.
Also, intern and get experience, this is more important then a GPA in my mind.

I do think that mission critical information could be kept on a Athlon based system, when running the RIGHT OS(Linux or Solaris).

  21. College Student on The Truth About File-Sharing · · Score: 1

I am a college student that had Napster Killed... That was not nice. Since that has happened I have not bought one new CD(thats about 1 year now). I dont want to buy a whole CD for one song, I want to Download other Songs by an artist and hear the Songs in FULL before I waste $12-$16 on a CD that cost MAYBE $5 to make. I now only support the bands I like, I will buy there new CDS, but as for the rest, I am going to find way to get a taste of there music before I buy.
