Now I agree with most of what you stated, but who says you can't quit your government -- well non-authoritative governments? Say the amount of bad laws exceeded your tolerance, you wouldn't leave? You would actually (by choice) stay?

Say, hypothetically the US amended The Bill of Right (I'm assuming you live in the US) by stripping off First, Second, and Fourth amendment. Would you stay?

Now, as for I ... in the very beginning, I would fight (non-violently of course) to get them back. But, if it doesn't work out I would leave.

So, I don't feel my government on a whole is coercing me as you stated. I consider myself having a social pact between my government, as so with everyone living within it jurisdiction. The Constitution is my contract. Federal and State laws (the good ones -- I know there are bad ones) are there to protect me and my community. Now, if that social pact should ever be broken and bad laws exceed my tolerance I should have the right, at very least, to leave.

Actually your reasoning is flawed. Liberalism is about individual freedom and opposes state run institutions, which we can agree are monopolies. Communism tends to promotes these -- well the private government run kind at least. I can't say I've ever met a Liberal who likes monopolies.

Now the promotion of individual freedoms through government subsidies (like for education, health, unemployment, etc.) and regulation of industry to protect society --think US's EPA, FDA, USDA-- as a whole is surely the liking of a Liberal.

This is a prime example of the effects of sever punishment laden on
young children. Instead of channeling their blackhat energies into
something constructive and leaving the punishment in the hands of the
school system, Torricelli, indirectly, wants to build more prisons so
that we can now through more young children into them.... which, by
the way, do a poor job at rehabilitating and sometimes making the
child even worse when he comes out.

Being a NJ resident I am definitely going to write Senator Torricelli

  14. Spielberg no Kubrick on Review: A.I. · · Score: 1

This movie was okay... but not as great as I would expect it. First
off, I honestly believed that Spielberg was going to give it that
Spielberg touch, as seen in "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial" and his earlier
films. I mean this was right up his alley... (it's a fantasy film,
centered around a robotic small boy, on a quest to become
human... this story had Spielberg written all over it!!!) But
unfortunately, he didn't uses his genius in this case. He pretty much
tried to become Kubrick to create a Kubrick film!!! And I honestly
think that was the major mistake of the film. Now, i know that the
film was originally intended to be done by Kubrick. Matter of fact, I
heard about this film 8 years ago, anticipating to see it done by
Kubrick. Also, I know that Spielberg and Kubrick were great friends,
which I'm sure influenced Spielberg to do what he did. But come on.
Spielberg and Kubrick are downright opposite of each other in
cinematic form and technique! Imagine E.T. if it were done by Kubrick
and Clockwork Orange done by Spielberg! Spielberg did archive to
convey a Kubrick feel, which was intriguing to see at times, but overall it seemed forced. This movie would have been great if
Spielberg had been Spielberg. But, unfortunately, it ended up OK and
    confused...

Now, this is part of RMS' official definition of free software, which the GPL was created to protect.

Now a quote taken from the GPL's Preamble:

When we speak of free software, we are referring to freedom, not price. Our General Public Licenses are designed to make sure that you have the freedom to distribute copies of free software (and charge for this service if you wish),...

  22. My advice on CS vs CIS · · Score: 1

Your friends seem to be right about CS and CIS majors getting hired for the same jobs and are being paid to do the same work.

The reason behind this is that companies do not base their decision entirely on the type of degree you have but more so on the experience and the amount of knowledge you exhibit in the interview.

Now, the decision to become a CS or CIS major depends on you. If you feel that you will do okay in the math requirements of the curriculum, then by all means go CS... However, if you feel that it would be too difficult or troublesome, then go CIS/IS.

Now, deciding what you want do does not stop there. You now must ask yourself what do you want to do after you graduate and what do you do now to prepare yourself when you get there:

if you want to do hardcore/cool programming stuff, then study lots of well known algorithms, data structures, and different programming languages (but, remember, this stuff is formally taught in CS classes)

If you don't care to learn any of this stuff and you just want to get the paycheck that comes along with the CIS or CS title... then, you might want to reconsider in getting into any of the two majors... I have seen to many CS and CIS majors who graduate without knowing how to program, and then wonder why they can't get a job or a good paying one at that!

So, that's my 2 cents on the whole matter... me being a CS major who despises math but can program very well... I figured that I could have done better in CIS and still have been a good programmer... (I would have been a better programmer then some CS majors!)...

    Take care and good luck.

I guess they thought that without any effort in advertising, the Amiga was going to magically obtain the same buying frenzy that their C64s and C128s received previously...but it never happened...
