But you are right about not being able to do anything about it, short of a re-education program for investors.

Why would you want to educate other investors? When bad investors are making mistakes good investors take advantage. If you believe companies will be more successful thinking for the long-term, invest in like-minded companies. If the companies don't exist, put together a business case and compete.

It sounds like your blaming the internet for poor investment decisions - more detailed and faster information should not lead to poor judgement.

Just so that you know, in some large IT companies, you don't have to be the asshole - that is exactly how everybody is treated.

What I never understood is that they also did this to people when they quit - employee tells his boss he's giving notice and security is called before the employee is allowed to return to his desk. If the employee was going to do something immoral, wouldn't he do it before handing in his resignation?

The answer seems pretty simple to me - every task should be on a virtual desktop. MS will get there eventually...

My point is that one's goal should be to read posts within the context they are written. Those who don't will find themselves posting poor responses and inane slashdot posting rules. Just like you did here :)

Perhaps I don't understand the term pork riders, but could you explain what you mean by this?

For example, the bill to keep murder illegal could include $20 billion in corporate tax breaks.
Since you have to vote either for or against the bill, if you don't vote for the bill, you would be accused of trying to make murder legal, even if you were simply against the tax breaks. This is a very common strategy in Politics - take a look at what is included in the bill passed today that authorized another $83 billion for the war on terror.

Besides, laws against murder are important enough that you can almost guarantee their easy renewal.

Congress would LOVE to renew laws like murder - it gives them more opportunities to add irrelevant pork riders onto the laws that no politician would be able to reject without committing political suicide.

If you don't believe it, look at the latest war spending bill that passed 100-0 today.
