This sets up the battle of the century

In one corner, you have the studios who want 1080p content pumped out, in the most rigorous DRM fashion possible, to the unrealized monetary assets, errr customers, for an outrageously high premium. The studios who want to charge ANY content provider streaming the studio's material to pay through the nose for the right of distribution.
On the other hand, you have the telco's who want to monetize every bit on the internet, and are soon going to charge ANY content provider streaming the studio's material to pay through the nose for the right of distribution of material through the telco's internet.
Who loses in this battle? The end user, and the netflixs of the world can not maintain the same business model because they will simply end up as a set of finger cuffs as both parties give them the screw job.
Looks like I'll be buying ALL of my content in the bargain bin, and reading a crap ton of e-books.
It's really the only think I'd like to see made at this point. It would make LoTRs look like a walk in the park. Just keep Jackson and his revisionist hands(no Scouring of the Shire) off of it. Heck, I"m sure he'd Sauron out as a sympathetic character at this point.
I'd like to see the contract. My guess is that the suing won't begin for quite a while. Not until lots of people have already moved their collections over.
How many of us have receipts for the music we purchased years ago? I've given/thrown/sold away most of my CDs I could once I ripped my CD collection. Once my collection goes in the cloud, and the powers that be match some of my songs to be EXACTLY the same as some other people, I'm sure there is a chance I get a knock on the door asking me to produce the receipt for the song(s) in question, as well as all the other songs in my collection. If I can't, then BOOM, I"m getting sued.
This is going to a be a prosecuting attorney's wet dream - Everyone's music collection to sift through, in order to find similar songs and thus, people to prosecute.
I don't see how this is going to end well for the users of this service.
I was thinking the same thing. It would be interesting if anyone in the know could comment on the light going on for a quick picture, as opposed to video mode.
There are plenty of homes within about 5 miles of me that had solar installed. You know what happened to them? Within around five years, the systems experienced some problems. The company that made them was no longer around, and now there are dozens and dozens of homes with skeletal systems of what were once solar panels. That 1st happened around 25-30 years ago. Another company did the same thing around 15 years ago, and the same thing happened. Lots of homes with 'em, none are working, most has the framework on the roof with no panels.
Until, and only until, you can actually get service on a system, that does not blow your entire energy savings, you are not going to see it take off. If you can build the infrastructure, have it serviced inexpensively, and replace the panels with the latest greatest when needed, then solar has a chance. So far, based on experiences in my community, solar power has the same payoff a dealing with a user car salesman - you are going to get screwed.
You can NOT have a story about solar power without a prediction somewhere with the ole "in the next 5-10 years". It's amazing that 15 years of reading such articles, the solar power industry always seems to be 5-10 years away from a major boom.
Why give something to the customer for "free", when you can charge for a customer built machine with a matte screen?
I suspect the trend will be coming to the auto industry very soon - Oh you want four wheels? That'll cost ya extra. How about the airline industry. A trip to New York will cost you $500. Oh you want to land safely once you get there? That'll cost you extra. etc...
I"m loving my rooted Nook Color. B&N is handling the production of their tablet the way every company should. If you want to go nuts and brick it, go ahead. We'll be happy to sell ebooks to those who do not, and also to those who do root it.
Doesn't help that Jackson made up/embellished events and skipped the ending of the book that tied all the lore and ending of the 3rd age into a nice little bow - The scouring of the Shire. Jackson essentially "Americanized" the ending of the LotRs. That really pissed me off.
... The ten part Silmarillion movie. This is simply a kids story. Show me some hott elf on elf killing to wipe that smug look off of Elrond face whenever he's talking about the evil/vile humans. Self hating half-human hypocrite that he is.
It's really quite simple, and can all be boiled down into three simple letters - DRM.
Couple that with the wild west for app acquisition, as compared to the Apple's App store, and the thousands of bogus apps that just got squashed for key logging, etc... and you have businesses a little nervous.
True for the xoom. But it's not going to get any better for the iPhone 4 in comparison. And that was the poster's point - that there was no difference between iPad 2 and iPhone 4, when clearly there is.
That explains the birth to maturity of the nuclear power industry in the US up to about 1992. But what about the lack of forward thinking SINCE then? The blame for that is 100% on the enviro-whackos who seem happier with coal plants and drilling than this form of energy, solely because it has the word nuclear in it's name. Funny how the enviro-whackos of the 90s are the same ones calling for this now.
The fact that ultimately he did use one of those tools (a lighter) is why (IMHO) this exercise failed.
I don't think I would say it failed. The presumption was that it was 50,000 years ago and that fire was readily at hand/"easy" to produce. Using your logic, you could have said he failed because he took a car to a couple of mineral deposits. In a post apocalypse world, it would be easier to use reflected light through some glass than using a bow. But he specifically said that he was looking at what was available 50,000 years ago.
I agree that the "Experiment" was more along the lines of ancient smelting and an organic battery as opposed a telegraph system.
Nethemas the Great answered pretty well already - Oort cloud, Kupier belt, interstellar space, explore in more details some of the boundaries the Voyagers have passed through, etc...
Lots to explore in relative deep space. A couple solid rocker boosters, a couple sling shot effects, then fire up the ion engine. The problem is thrust, so lets give it a bit of a head start.
Why have we not started a project based on a scaled up(more fuel) ion-propulsion engine to send something out of the solar system? We have our ears craning to the sky to hear a 1/2 watt voyager signal, but we could be sending something else deeper, faster, more powerful and with a lot more scientific instruments on it.

I"m guessing it doesn't even taste burnt when you make it at home. Well, most of the times that is
It's all crystals. You guys are going in the WRONG DIRECTION!!!!!!
Every other word out of it's "mouth" would be 'anal'
No, that would be profiling. And we all know that is frowned upon these days.
So you are in favor of Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli's subpoena to get the climate research data from Michael Mann then.
Good, because Mann received funding from the state of Virginia.

Grrrrrrrr

4X beter GPU than the Xoom, and 5.5X faster than the iPhone 4/iPad 1, but why cloud your opinion with silly things like facts.

That being said, I just bought and rooted a Nook Color.
What could possibly go wrong?
