My Acer Aspire 3100 plays all the games I want to play (including UT2004 & Oblivion which is nice considering my desktop plays Oblivion at about 10 frames / minute). Oh yeah, it was also under $600. I guess it all depends on expectations.
SGI is done as a technology company they won't be contributing anything to FOSS anymore. At least it's not like they can take the things they did give us back.
You were doing great until you mentioned Microsoft. I hate them as much as the next guy, but since ATI doesn't make mice, I don't think they have much to worry about from that angle.
I can't find the post but somewhere in the comments of the story about SGI reorganizing this very thing was predicted. Going from a hardware company to a litigation company that is.
Actually, maybe it wasn't what you'd consider an OEM CD, I got a book, & the license with the dumb little hologram all shrink wrapped with a hologram CD.
AFAIK, they are just more precise. I don't know how I'd even give a decent example of that, I do civil engineering design & normal AGP cards (GeForce, etc) work just fine for me. I don't know if you'd need that level of precision for designing medical equipment or military hardware. I've heard that the Wildcat / Quadro type cards render faster as well, but again I can't give a good example.
I was upgrading a friend's notebook with a freshly purchased OEM WinXP Pro disk (he needed to be able to get on his company's domain & WinXP Media Center Edition didn't cut it) & had a similar problem, the Product Activation wouldn't accept the license key. Oddly enough using the original WinXP MCE license key on the bottom of the notebook worked fine.
Maybe I didn't understand your post, but that Quadro is still a 3d card. The Quadro series of cards are much more precise than your average run of the mill GeForce, that's why they are used in CAD & CAM workstations.

If SLASH'EM is your favorite Rogue-like, google Vulture's Claw or Vulture's Eye for a 3d version.

Obviously, you don't know the farmers I know...

...Am I the only person here that *likes* the new Slashdot layout?

Oops. I have "Check I.D." on the back of mine. Been doing this for almost 10 years.

I don't know about you, but this damn internet is just ruining my liver!

I can't play System Shock 2 anymore. Eternal Darkness & Call of Cthulu: Dark Corners of the Earth are both pretty damn creepy.

Suprise, another Battlefield game I'll be skipping

This is Florida we're talking about.
Jaysyn
(yes, I live in Florida)
I do believe that the UK is a bit bigger than Rhode Island. Hell, my home town is bigger than Rhode Island.

Krystal's / White Castle FTW!!!

No, no, I actually purchased the WinXP licenses myself from a reputable software/hardware dealer. I know they were legit.
