Parent poster asked for discussion on what would happen in a certain situation. Well the above is what will happen if the situation is left unchecked. All of this is the thin wedge of the slippery slope so to speak.
And to the moron who modded me down, how was that flamebait? I think someone doesn't like Alpha Centauri.
My 99 Expresso is rev limited to @ 115Mph. Of course, I can remove the govenor & the car will still work. I doubt the PC will after DRM (Pally, whatever) hardware been removed.
Perens says that "what is new here is that the customer's PC is getting hardware with the specific purpose of constraining the customer. Never before has a customer received a speed governor on his car -- and this is worse than a speed governor. It's like saying, 'You may never drive into this part of town.'"
Not to nitpick, but my car has a rev limiter that keeps it from going over 115mph (yes, I've tried this).
"Until we see it, until we actually look at the code, until we go through the whole process and see how the whole system will work, we won't know what it's like," Farber says. "If they do it all right, it might work -- but it can be misused."
This guy is forgetting who he is dealing with apparently.
As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism. Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master.

I'm mostly a Windows user & a Linux newbie, I can install Linux, and do most GUI stuff but am lost for the most part on the command line (for now..). I prefer Gnome over KDE because I find it to be more (and I hate saying this) User Friendly. Everything just seems to be where it's supposed to be, and KDE seems kinda kludged to me. Of course I haven't used KDE3 yet so....
I have a buddy in the Air Force, he's probably about 125 lbs in his boots. I've seen him work a guy 2 1/2 times his size like he was Jet Li or something, it was amazing...... of course he was never the type to start a fight either...
Yeah, this works great if you live in a rathole like L.A. or New York. I live 60 miles from work & commute in everyday. I do this so I can live out in the county on 10 acres, and not have to deal with my fellow humans, because most of them suck.
Don't get me wrong, I drive a 4cyl, and do what I can for the environment, but I'm not about to give up my peace & quiet (and the ability to walk outside naked whenever I feel like it) so I can live in a large city with public transportation & deal with the idiots also residing there.
Same here, but her laptop is starting to get old, & she's thinking about replacing it with a desktop. I'm trying to talk her into getting a Mac.

Yeah, and when he doesn't and the artist has a problem with it (ala Coolio) there still isn't anything they can do about it because it's parody.

You mean a way to push the Chinese fully onto Linux then have it declared UnAmerican....

"What is it about windows that would make you need all this crap I am doing fine without?"

Your parent poster is either a cop, still afraid of his own shadow, or both...

So did you have fun at the time, and feel cheap afterwards? Do you mark out to MS often?
Jaysyn
I used to do beat people looking at the reflection of the game in a mirror, with my back to the TV. ..and I'd let them choose my character.

I'm positive they'll be taken care of in meta-mod....

Don't forget Tyco & Global Crossing....

Apparently you've never read "Firefly" (not a Xanth book). The erotica in that one wasn't veiled even a little....
Jaysyn
LOL, first time I've ever heard of speach affecting people like.. oh nevermind....
Jaysyn

Jaysyn
