I can't speak for this router, since I recently purchased a Linksys WRT55AG router and I can tell you that the one I have has QOS support as well as a switch no NOT let any clueless newbie change the configuration of the router. Another thing, I called into Support to make sure I had to latest firmware, and checked the web page, the available firmware is 1.10, but when I look at the router, it states 1.20. Either case, this router has QOS, as well as selectable bandwidth for EACH lan port, MAC address priority, and application port priority. Overall, I'm impressed with it.

Microsoft has a product called Windows Sharepoint Portal Services, and a companion free product called Windows Sharepoint Services. It allows business units (read: pointy haired managers) to "create" their own webspaces.

Lotus has "Lotus Quickplace" which alows anyone to create a quick webplace/webspace with built in collaboration. This product is over 4 years old.

While I'm introducing Lotus products to geeks, let me also say that Lotus has "Sametime" which has a new product name of "Lotus Instant Messaging and Web conferencing." If you have never seen it, think WebX. Same product. This product is over 4 years old.

Microsoft is just catching up, thats all.

Security is a Lotus Strong point. You have Server security, database security, document security and yes view security. Regardless, there are many web sites that are Notes based and they look and function much like phpBB or even a "blog" style site like slashdot.

Again, poor implimentation makes it look horrible, but I can show you some notes sites that don't look like notes via the browser.

Nope, for most non-technical businesses, it's Exchange, SharePoint, and a rent-a-brain to get it into shape... and then, really, not much work at all for anyone other than a luke-warm admin body.

Which explains why when the next new "virus of the day" hits the Exhcange servers, traffic on the internet SPIKES like crazy and it takes months to clean that crap off of servers.

To all you Notes bashers, name ONE virus that spreads via the Notes mail system. Go ahead, name it. I bet you can't, because to date, it hasn't occured.

Its what they do best. After all, Nopoleanic laws etc.. Its just a huge money grab to get more money for a dying industry. Seriously? How many TV Repair Techs are there right now? Not many. My uncle was a TV Repair guy and he retired a long time ago. He fixed TV's when they REALLY needed fixing, IE replacing a tube that was dead or dull. Once semiconductors came into the market, his repair business died.

In our day, its a throw it away and buy another $5000 HDTV set and hang it on the wall. Long gone are the tubes that went out. I bet if someone investigate the financing on the Radio and TV board in Louisiana it will show that the inflow of money has long ago trickled down to almost nothing.

This is OBVIOUS. Its a money grab. The entire state is almost dead from unemployment and everyone like myself moving out.

You can watch OZ or The Soprano's for free, you have to pay the cable company because you WANT that programming content. Comedy Central runs commercials, so does HBO, but you pay for it.

Its the same thing. If you want the programming content, then you pay. They will run commercials regardless. Just because you pay for it, doesn't mean it should be commercial free.

  16. How's this for a list? on Ideal PDA Feature Wishlist? · · Score: 1

Really very simple list, currently, I own a Palm IIIxe and an HP Jornada 720.

What I would like, is the ability for my Palm to connect to ISP via cell phone AND still have the ability to use one of those folding keyboards. Multi i/o can't be that difficult on these palms? Put in 2 com ports. This would allow you to be online AND send/recieve/reply to email.

The Jornada has pcmcia slots, compact flash slot, so its expandable, has built in keyboard (small but its there), not to mention the color screen. However, it has its own limitations, and my wish list for this would be, a built in 802.11 card, and more compatability with other CE devices (programs for most ce devices don't run on the HPC.

As you can tell, I've switched away from my palm, and utilize the Jornada 720 more. It still not perfect, but it does more for me than what the Palm ever did.
