  1. Ethanol and performance on Mercedes To Phase Out Gasoline By 2015 · · Score: 4, Interesting

As an interesting note, an engine designed with ethanol in mind will actually produce more power than a gasoline vehicle of similar displacement. This is because, while ethanol has a lower energy density per volume of fuel, it has a much higher octane rating and a higher synchromatic reatio (you can burn more fuel for a particular volume of air.) So, you can design an engine to run at a much higher compression for better efficiency (more power from the same amount of fuel,) or you can design a turbo engine to run with more boost (useful in a flex fuel design.)

A great example of this is the Koenigsegg CCXR

There are other issues with Ethanol, however. Some countries with a primarily agricultural economy are converting much of their production to produce bio-fuel. This is exasperating some of the world starvation issues.

Speaking as someone who was a "nice guy" all through highschool, it's the fault of the nice guy as well. Why buy the cow if the milk is free? If a "nice guy" is going to be a "good friend" and supply emotional support/fulfillment then the cute girl doesn't have to have that need met by her conceited prick boyfriend.

You are perpetuating the idea that girls do not enjoy sex, and merely perform it as an act to gain emotional support. "Why by the cow" can only be referring to having a meaningful relationship and engaging in sexual activity, where "the milk" refers to emotional support and friendship.

Although I can't say I've had the greatest of success in my own personal relationships, if I've learned anything it's that men and women really aren't so different. Women want a man they can trust and respect. They want attraction, and chemistry. That's what you want too, right?

So, how can she respect you if you have no will of your own? How can she trust you when all you say are the nice things about her, and are never completely honest with yourself, or with her?

If the actions of President Bush has taught us anything over the past 8 years, it's that voting most certainly is NOT pointless. Sure we voted for the wrong guy, but his administration's gross mismanagement of this country showed very clearly that the two parties are not by any means identical, and that your vote for a president can have a very real impact on the policies that are put into place.

At this point, I can only wish that we had an ineffective president who did not accomplish anything in the white house for the last 8 years. We would be a lot better off right now.

  6. Re:Sounds pretty pointless on Real Racing In the Virtual World · · Score: 5, Interesting

Have you ever raced? Because I have.

A racer interested in self preservation usually only reduces his speed by about 5%-10% of what is theoretically possible. Most motorcycle racers use lines that provide space to recover if they exceed traction limits, usually at the cost of position or lap times. Most racers use a delayed apex line that allows the driver to get on the throttle hard and early. If the vehicle does start to go out of control, there is usually plenty of room to recover.

Because exceeding the limits can be recovered, and because it usually reduces lap times, I highly doubt that being able to run near maximum speed would provide a significant advantage. After all, a casual gamer is just as likely as a racer to botch a corner and go off-line. If doing so hurts lap times badly enough, there is not a real advantage in getting so close to the edge.

The biggest advantage a simulated racer will have is that simulations tend to be a little watered down from reality, and are usually more predictable. Top gear had an excellent video on the matter, where Jeremy Clarkson attempted to beat his GT4 time in reality using the same car (Acura NSX) and course (Laguna Seca.) I'm sure you can find the video on YouTube.

With my last girlfriend, I sent her out with my best friend to see what would happen. Everything went great, and she was very faithful to me, so I knew I needed a bigger test.

So, I sent her down to a private Chip and Dale's party with her best friends. Even then, she wasn't tempted. Obviously, my test wasn't good enough for her.

To truly prove her faithfulness, I told her that she was a whore, cut her off from everyone she loved, and kicked her out of her home. After ignoring her pleas for love, I called her ex and told him to come take care of her, then let her stew for a month.

When she didn't return, I obviously knew she wasn't faithful enough for me.

Speaking as someone who races motorcycles, in the USA it's safe far more often than it's legal.

With well maintained roads, it's would not be particularly dangerous to hit those speeds within the flow of traffic, on in the absence of traffic. Frankly, I would feel safer at 100MPH around focused drivers than I do around our current breed of latte drinking, cell phone talking, SUV driving, no-dozeing, 65MPH traffic.

As other people have pointed out, cruising speed is always somewhat below maximum speed. Generally a vehicle with a maximum speed of 100MPH can comfortably drive somewhere between 60 and 80 MPH. Reaching maximum speed usually requires flooring it far longer than most people feel comfortable. It also encourages drivers to maintain momentum in situations where it's really best to slow down.
