Wow, you clearly do not know the definition of the word "belief." Here you go (From Merriam-Webster): 1: a state or habit of mind in which trust or confidence is placed in some person or thing 2: something believed ; especially : a tenet or body of tenets held by a group 3: conviction of the truth of some statement or the reality of some being or phenomenon especially when based on examination of evidence

The article doesn't say anything regarding the behavior of Office 2007 when installed on a machine with an older version of Office. It's a bare-bones commentary on OEM installations of trials of Office 2007. There is absolutely no indication that the problems encountered by the submitter will come up again.

So, this scare-tactic post amounts to someone asserting that something bad happened in the past, and might, possibly, maybe, could happen in the future.

Wow, thanks for the information, I never would have thought of that on my own.

(Furthermore, does any company that uses trial-ware want you to do anything besides buy the software? Game companies use demos all of the time, AND THEY DON"T WANT YOU TO CONSIDER BUYING THE GAME TO BE OPTIONAL EITHER. But, because this is and MS story on Slashdot, we just have to bash them for every perfectly normal thing that they do.)

    Pathetic.

No, the moral of the story is that you need to be an active member of your ethical community, not just a passive observer of immoral agents. You knew that your friends were acting immorally and breaking the rules of the university, and you chose to do nothing about it. The cheaters prospered because they cheated, but they cheated successfully because you allowed them to. You let them harm you by allowing them to gain an unfair advantage over you. Who's fault is that?

When you know someone is acting against the interests of the group in order to gain an unfair advantage and you do nothing about it, you shouldn't complain about the results.

You know the line about evil needing nothing to succeed but that good men do nothing? It applies to people like you in situations like this.

The problem was that he only has 3-5 hours a week to play all of the games that he wants to play. So no, he isnt' spending $1 an hour on a single MMO. Assuming that he plays 3 other games (perhaps one on PC two on console or some such) he would be paying $3-$5 dollars an hour on the MMO. That isn't all that cheap. Further, the real problem is that he has gotten the sense that it isn't worth it to play an MMO if you have so little time.

So the actual problem is that MMOs seem to require a certain amount of dedication that is often beyond the ability of a casual gamer. Therefor, those that charge a flat $15 a month rate are charging a casual gamer a full fee for a sub-par gaming experience.

The suggested solution was to switch to a pro-rated model. Which seems sensible you pay for as much as you get.
