Every DVD, CD, or piece of software that is illegally copied means less money that flows into these corporations, into those employees' pockets, and into the government.
No. Only those DVDs, CDs, or pieces of software that would have been purchased if it were not illegally copied mean less money flows into these corporations.
Come up with a better solution to deal with terrorism in a free and open society.
The problem is intractable in any society. Take a look at Iraq, it's currently a police state occupied by 100s of thousands of troops, yet there are bombs going off every day.
You can't stop someone who is willing to give thier own life to commit terrorist acts. It's too
easy, regardless of laws. Unless of course you
want to put everyone in prison.
If you really want a solution, and you may no like it, here goes;
Try not to piss people off. When was the last time the Swiss had a terrorist attack on thier soil? Maybe being neutral is not such a bad thing.
At least it would seem to limit the number of people willing to give thier life to terrorize you.
Ignore it. Imagine if the networks didn't interrupt normal programming for minor terrorist events. If it was treated just like the murders they report on each day. Sort of takes the wind out of the sails if you don't get a lot of press coverage.
Don't punish your own people, it's not thier fault. There is no reason to take rights away from Americans. Doing so may make more Timothy McVeigh's then it catches international terrorist.
We have as many nuts in this country as any other,
let's not piss them off either.
...if you think that the US is no longer a free and open society, remember that in many countries around the world, you would be hunted down, arrested and maybe even executed for expressing the thoughts that you've so thoughtfully shared in this forum..
How do you know we won't? Don't forget the Patriot Act would make it leagal for us to all be secretly rounded up as terrorist suspects, given secret trial and secretly sentensed. Do I think it will happen. No, but it would now be legal (IANAL).
Then again
this Canadian didn't think anything would happen to him either.
Perhaps you would find this useful. Havne't tried it yet myself.
Cloudgarden's MemoryManager is a small plugin for IBM's Eclipse Java IDE, which displays the current memory usage of Eclipse (letting you know when Eclipse is close to using up all it's memory allowance), and automatically invokes garbage collection when deemed necessary by a simple but effective algorithm (see below), thus preventing or reducing times of forced inactivity while the Eclipse JVM cleans up it's virtual memory space.
...accountability of both schools and students via objective measures (i.e., tests) and, again, I obviously think this is essential to improving the public education system.
I can say as a parent of a 11 year old this is causing more problems than it's fixing. Now the only thing kids are taught is what's on the test and the goal is to be able to pass the test, not understand the material.
The winners are the consumer who gets to pay lower prices for the products and services.
I guess I missed IBM's announcement they were lowering prices. Got a URL?
I use to work for fortune 500 company that outsourced a bunch of thier IT works (not me).
They never lowered prices, but the CEO did get
a hell of a raise that year.
It's the height of irresponsibility to assume that our children will be smart enough to solve a problem a hundred years from now whose solution has completely eluded us.
For a second there I thought you were talking about the Deficit spending W is doing.
No. Only those DVDs, CDs, or pieces of software that would have been purchased if it were not illegally copied mean less money flows into these corporations.
I think corporation pay a lot less tax than you think. Take a look at this old report.
Tell that to this guy.
I have, have you?

Don't be silly they will never ration gas. Gas consumption must increase, profits for oil companies are way to important to this administration.
Mayby you could get a pass that lets skip the anal probe when boarding public transportation.
How long before DVD John fixes it so I don't need an API key?

It's open source too.

Anyone know how bad the schools are in Canada?
I guess I missed IBM's announcement they were lowering prices. Got a URL?

I thought it was just four guys that got us in this mess.
One could argue five, with the fifth being either Wolfowitz or the rubberstamp legislature.
I don't believe it's possible to make a difference in the US unless you have lot's of money or maybe own a company that makes voting machines.
You don't get to be the richest man on Earth by giving people more for thier money.
I wonder if the people in North Korea and Lybia say the same thing about the US and the CIA?
Just a thought.
Looks like it's Delio.
These things have been around for at least a decade.
You didn't really think they would read this before voting on it now did you.
Don't forget about Microvision. They could file lawsuits agains even the tiniest copyright violations.
Neither.
No photographs please.
I question voting machines wherever they are used!
For a second there I thought you were talking about the Deficit spending W is doing.
Cutting taxes will have a very short term effect. Since there is no plan to cut spending the long term
effect will be negative.
You've got it wrong. You should have said,
But who am I to oppose the American people's God-given right to burn fossile fuel so there will be NO tomorrow ?
You've left out a step or two and that's not the right format.
You must be a CEO or a politician.
