I'm a pretty big FOSS head, but seriously, I haven't found a *nix derivative (including os x) that I like as well as windows for 95% of my tasks.
That said, however, you should REALLY investigate TinyXP, which is light years better than any of the versions put out by Microsoft. You can find torrents of it all over the place, it installs in 5 minutes, and removes all the horse shit that MS seems hell bent on crippling their OS with (WMP, Outlook, IE, etc.).
A free Press would really solve a lot of this problem. That and not having a coup back in the sixties. Yeah, we know, but we have Hollywood, so here's a big jolly grog of stfu. No seriously, our bad, we let the retards out, just give us a little time. We'll get back on the geneva convention, bill of rights, and being a great nation. Or at least make a movie about it.
The war on kiddie porn is NOT a war to protect children. It is a war to end civil liberty, make no mistake about it. Granted there are a salient number of nut jobs out there that like fondling undeveloped humans, but they are still a vast minority, and in my opinion, no sphincter (mine OR a kids) is as important as all of our civil liberties.
"Islamofascist" is just the negative form of "Christofascist", which apparently is a good thing since we keep voting them in. Oh yeah, never mind, they don't count our votes. Silly rabbit! Democracy's for kids!
That is such a shitty and calloused way to look at the charred remains of phosphorous burned women and children in third world countries that were probably starving already.
I shouldn't have to remind anybody here about Ohio, Florida, or the fact that our exit polls haven't matched for a WHILE now. So, if the hollow act of voting in a society that doesn't count votes does something for you, by all means.
The time to vote is over. It's now time to get your gun and pray.
I for one will stay home and play tetris this election. At least I KNOW the controls on that computer game aren't rigged.
Ok, just because some secret sub committee may or may not review something does not mean that it is OK for ANYONE in the government to completely suspend the fourth amendment.
I mean, when the Nazis burned down the Reichstag, I don't think the people on the sidelines saying "It's just a stupid building" were in any way validated by history.
They did get some of the essentials at least this time, but seriously, no version of quake?!? No version of GTA?!? Civ instead of Civ II?
My top five is much better, mod me up:
1. Grand Theft Auto : San Andreas 2. Super Mario 64 3. Quake 2 4. Civilization 2 5. Mario Kart 64
They did mention super mario 64, which makes them not retarded I suppose, but seriously.... some of their choices over GTA: San Andreas or Mario Kart, or Quake 2...... Clearly shows them not to be much of a gamer in the end. Truth be told not having one of the original NES Super Mario games in ANY of the lists is also a crime against humanity. I apologize.
I'm not some wierdo who has any kind of sexual thoughts about kids, and like most healthy adults the concept itself turns my stomach and pisses me off. However: I've just about had it with anybody limiting my personal freedoms or civil liberties in the name of stopping child pornography.
Does a psychologist here know the numbers on what portion of society is affected by that sickness? Wouldn't it be better that a few pervs get their stupid kiddie porn rather than ending any kind of free society for the rest of us?
How is freedom of speech, freedom to communicate, and a truly free communication infrastructure for all any less important than whether or not a couple of sickos are spanking it to pix of a couple of third world kids who very likely would've been exploited by some local asshole anyway?
I'm all for stopping child pornography, but anybody waving that banner to limit MY freedoms can have a swift kick in the face as far as I'm concerned.
Just wanted to shamelessly plug shareaza, which is a great FOSS p2p app for windows that most n00bs can find their way around. It does edonkey, gnutella1, gnutella2, and even torrents (though not especially good in the torrent dept.).
Anybody you know wishing to find a new p2p app I can recommend it highly, though I still use utorrent for torrents.
I mean, it must be a niche if EVERY GAME I AND EVERYONE ELSE I KNOW plays is on the computer. With everything from stepmania, urban terror, civilization, chess, EVERY NINTENDO 64 GAME, EVERY NINTENDO GAME, EVERY PLAYSTATION GAME, EVERY SUPER NINTENDO GAME, EVERY GENESIS GAME, AND LOADS of old DOS games, windows games, and of course all the best FPS, driving simulators, flight simulators, MySpace (kind of a game?), and Hot or Not on a 12 foot projected screen (1024x768 ~ $500), I don't know anybody who's really lacking anything in the game department. Especially as the ps2 and gamecube emulators continually evolve. The console is dead to anyone with half a brain or less of a budget. Granted the market of 13-20 year old n00bs who don't see the potential/lack the experience to setup a good computer game system is huge, but this next generation is already getting better at this stuff, especially as prices drop.
Save your money and buy a projector. It's way more fun playing mario kart 64 on an enormous screen than playing double dash on a regular TV.
If wikipedia is the only defender of civil liberties both here and abroad versus the terrors of unrestricted finance (which we are actively seeing more of day by day), my hat is fully off to them.
Long live wikipedia. One of the last things we Americans be truly proud of. Even though it is international, I feel we have a heavy hand in it and should be proud.
I for one won't use any google products other than google.com. Nor will I support any of their advertisers, knowingly. Same with MS, yahoo, and any other business operating against my principles as a supporter of the bill of rights.
This version of windows is pirated (TinyXP, also beats the holy shit out of all other versions of windows *I've* used). Come and get me money nazis!!!
There are some real stinkers on there. I was hoping to maybe find a gem in the list I hadn't given a shot yet, and didn't see ONE! It's bewildering to me that San Andreas didn't make the list either. That game is fundamentally more powerful than nearly any other game ever made on several levels. I've been especially enjoying SAMP, as well, which is a multiplayer mod. Not to be confused with "Multi Theft Auto" which sucks.
Luckily the emulator scene is still going strong, so us PC gamers can still run lots and lots of great console games, albeit a little later in the game, so to speak.
FUNNY! But yeah, it's about as likely a suspect for building materials as anything else currently available. We need something with incredibly high tensile strength, and a whole lot of it. Currently it is not possible on the engineering end, but as we move further with nanotech and buckytubes in particular, it may become possible relatively soon.
Tell Nasa to want in one hand, and I'll go ahead and start pissing in the other, and let's see which hand fills up faster with a space elevator.
Seriously, space elevator tech is possible, but there are a MYRIAD of useful things they could be researching instead that we could be using RIGHT NOW.
When we do get strong enough carbon fiber filaments (or diamondoid nanotech or whatever) to produce a space elevator, then we can start building it.
This whole situation feels a little cart and horsey to me.
I don't think Freedom of Speech is all that complicated. As a matter of fact, I think even the most retarded can see the basis and necessity for most of the Bill of Rights. No, no, the ability to conceptualize personal freedom and a healthy environment for all based on that premise is only hard for a much different type of mental disorder: I call it "Beinganassholia". I suspect most of our current unelected government, and half of corporate america to suffer from this fairly common mental disorder. My prescription is jail time for anyone caught breaking laws in the Bill of Rights. I for one would much rather see anyone in jail now over marijuana out on the streets, and have all the psychopaths suffering from "Beinganassholia" safely behind bars.
I'm pretty sure that's how Franklin, Jefferson, Madison, and all the others felt as well, and in general I'm assuming they were smarter than me.

PS Why IS weed illegal anyway? The only threat that *I* am when *I* get stoned to anybody is a box of cheese-its. They honestly don't stand a chance.
Well, if Diebold is counting the votes again, I have very little hope for actual democracy any time soon.

Ok, good, as long as we are all seeing the same channel. I thought for a minute your directv package was bigger than mine.
Hey, wait! Some of us really ARE hippie pirates who want everything for free!

I'm going to make T-shirts:
PUT ME IN JAIL
CIVIL LIBERTY > MY SPHINCTER
You forgot Paul Wellstone. What ever happened to that guy anyway?
I'm going with "Christofascist". Just like "Islamofascist" but with an even more dated religious world view.
"Islamofascist" is just the negative form of "Christofascist", which apparently is a good thing since we keep voting them in. Oh yeah, never mind, they don't count our votes. Silly rabbit! Democracy's for kids!
Which bigger issue is that? The fact that they DO NOT COUNT OUR VOTES?!?
That is such a shitty and calloused way to look at the charred remains of phosphorous burned women and children in third world countries that were probably starving already.
There's one small problem with your idea:
THEY DON'T COUNT OUR VOTES.

I'm pretty sure most of us are strongly in the Bill of Rights camp. And that means freedom of speech, which I believe FUCK is a part of.
Go back to church and don't hurt yourself by attempting to think. Leave that to us science and nerd types, please.
