And they steal. Don't check anything remotely valuable. My GF chains were in the bag at check in (hidden away deep in the bag) and not there on arrival. Ironically one had a cross on it.
The only realistic way they could have found them is xray machine Like we'll ever see one penny from that.
Sad sad sad... And its not like they leave a note "inspected by #..." which they should have to.
This may seem odd but I've had to use word this week. I'm running on "windows server" attached to a nfs server. Man is it slow. Its a large document and it seems like word is accessing the disc all the time (which being a network drive is on the slower side).
But I saw a demo while at IBM by Bill Joy of Sun fame, it was jini and how devices could comunicate and be aware of what they're connected to and provide the correct functionality (you hook up a camera to a printer the camera can print, hook camera up to hard drive, camera can off load pictures). That way 1999.
We have a little of that today so we are edging closer. see bill joys speach..
Sony made money or came close to breaking even on every console it has made. The too cheap comment is probably the fact that sony feeling competion from MS subsidizing its consoles heavily has to do the same. And with that Blu-Ray drive the console probably cost more than they wanted it too.
Remember the 360/xbox where/are "cheap" because MS has lost about 2 billion+ dollars getting into the console business.
Ok.. The ps3 is more expensive.. However maybe MS should compair it to their xbox 360 premium (400$) + the unanounced price of there HD-DVD drive (say 200$) + cost of xbox live (which makes xbox "better" __$ x each month + additional stuff you can buy).
And MS can affort to loose more money on each box (windows/office cash cow), so the more they sell the more they loose. Plus the 360 isn't even backward compatible so you'll have to buy alot of your older xbox games again or keep both units.. Until the older one breaks.
Also the PS2 has lasted 2 years more than the original xbox before it was eol.
PS3 is really expensive, but should come down in price in a year as those blu-ray drives get cheaper. Plus since all ps3s have hard drives they are probably more likely to be used by game developers (maybe blu-ray disk is slow in its first generation?). The larger blu-ray discs might be usefull for some games.
I'll probably get one when the price drops, as I have a number of ps2 games we like to play. That prior investment is a little of what Sony is banking on.
Sony is not the nicest of companies, trying to force proprietary hardware, and I generally avoid there products.
I wonder how much extra MS is going to make sony pay for copies of Windows??
I have a ps2. I had a ps one, so the ps2 was the obvious choice as it played the ps one games. It was also my first dvd player.
Now, next generation. I will probably choose the ps3, because it will play the older games.
MS basically is starting from scratch with most older games not working well. Combine that and fact the old xbox costs more than it used to (forced bundle) as well as monthly fees to get the most out the xbox (xbox live). I don't think being first out will matter so much.
If you were thinking of buying a mac, but wern't sure... This might push you over. Like the OS9 -> OSX transition, eventually you stop using the older stuff. Apple is hopint that eventually you stop using the windows stuff.
I always wonder if photoshop for windows is significantly faster. Or the same games.. Of course the fastest way to run photoshop on a mac book pro/intel imac now is to boot into windows.
I'm betting apple is pretty sure "core image/audio" etc.. will allow mac software to run faster than its windows counterparts, but you never know.
Also will files created on the mac side be accessable by the windows side? How will file permissions work? Lots of questions.
Sony should have put MD into its PSP gaming device instead of comming up with a "new" UMD disc format. I think it probably would have been cheaper to have a recordable MD instead of developing a new disc format that from all accounts is failing at everything except psp games. Also the 1 gig storage capacity of the mini discs would have been usefull and at 6$ dollars a pop pretty cheap compared to gum stick media.

Micrsoft should focus on making products that are better than google and apple, so they don't have to "force" people to use there products. It won't work in the long run..
Even competent tech people believe Jobs hype sometimes. MS has become a really clear follower of trends, not a leader by any stretch and as such no one believes then.
Itunes works really well. I like it alot. Some people hate it and want winamp to make a comback.
My main problem with it are minor things. Like I'll type a song in the search box, release it doesn't find what I want because I'm searching a playlist, click the library and have to type the search again (no type ahead ala browser windows).
Its pretty intuitive, although I've met people who couldn't figure out how to find all songs on one album (the "browse" button seems to be a mystery to a couple of my friends who)
The podcasting is good, although its done through the "store" which isn't where it should be , even though its free. It does a good job automatically picking up new podcasts as they become available
I like the fact that its so easy to can share music from my tower to my notebook anywhere in the house saving precious notebook HD space.
It did wonders for the PSP

We had someone at work talk about this...

Its not a HW controler, but a mount the file system encrypted. It seems like a well thought idea anyway. And available for Linux.

My triangle can kick your rhombus's butt!

I'm not impressed with Word at all.
It was a typo.. The first slashdot should be Digg..
oops
I was moded as flamebait.. Go figure..

The computer is the hub of the digital lifestyle..
I wonder if Gates watched that keynote from apple 4 -5 years ago now..
Can't he be even a little bit original..
Sigh...
This is the kind of story I would expect from the masses at slashdot..
I would expect slashdot to have a higher standard than this.
I also HATE when stories get posted on both sites. I present a web site I had nothing to do with , but here it is.
Digg vs Dot

New codecs like h264 can compress an HD movie and fit on a regular DVD.
That extra will be great for backups..
You would be absolutely correct.. Although his intent may be lost in translation. Its coming across as arogant.

Blu ray's ships with java. I think to do the interactive stuff (maybe some light games as well.). MS hates it (java).
I have (somewhere) and old powerpc mac with the 486 card.. It could run windows and mac.
Shhhhhh... Lest the mod 5 slashdot effect ruin it...
I agree , it is pretty good. Like radio without the Djs..

Now both stagnate...

Is that flag just a bit? Is it the "evil bit"?
