Ahhhhh... He he. You made my day man.

Ya see, me boy, this topic is what we call an "issue". That means that neither side has any evidence other than their own arbitrary declarations to prove their respective points. Thus, we arrive at what you see here: whiny little bitches trying to convince each-other that the chemical ratios in one group's brains are more valid than the other group's.

Why do it then, you ask? Well, that's very simple: to keep a third group, called the "MSNBC Expert Commentators", well fed. If we were to stop bitching, they would be unable to support themselves, and no one wants a hungry Chris Matthews roaming the streets at night.

Now back to your regularly scheduled posting.

Has anyone else noticed that CGI (SFX, not animation like Shrek) has been getting worse since Jurrasic Park? The brachiasaurus eating the tree at the very beginning is still the best CGI effect I've seen. The Matrix was very nice, but after watching it a few times, you notice wierdities, like the bouncing door in the lobby. I see more problems with TPM every time I watch it, and of course, Mummy 2 had stuff I could have outdone with 20 minuites on Blender. I still haven't found any strange things in the CGI in JP, and I've watched it more times than I can count. That might be because there wasn't as much CGI, but after 8 years, I'd think they'd be able to at least match it.

Seriously though, thanks for the tip. I might just get one of those. Even 2GB Jazz drives get small when you're working with video. $219 for 10GB is pretty fair, and I'm amazed that they seem to have a sane warranty policy. I'd just about given up on the concept outside of the theoretical. I gave a Handicam to an official-Sony-repair-location-thingamagig about 6 months ago and still haven't gotten it back. At my count they've spent about 3x the price of the damn thing trying to fix it. They can't send a replacement because they stopped making that model, and of course, God forbid they make a decision and send me some cash, or even another model.

Lila tells Fry about "Nappster" a napster for celebrity personalities that can be plugged into robots. They don't even do the obvious "NapSTAR" joke (celebrities==stars, gets?), and the logo for the site is just the Napster logo with the "p" copy-pasted. Anyway, they do some Tron scenes, and Fry dl's Lucy Liu into an IBM formatted bot. He makes out with the bot until the rest of them decide he's got problems and show him a 50's "even though the robots are better than real people, you have to propogate the spiecies" educational movie. For some reason they go to the Nappster building, and find that the sign on the building says "Kidnappster" with the "kid" covered up with tape. Lila calls the guys working there seweaty nerds, and then breaks down the "Restricted" door that all corporate offices have. The back room is full of heads-in-jars that are gratuitously given electric shocks every time someone downloads them.

Lila: "Ha! And they said a little copying never hurt anybody!"

They rescue Lucy and randomly get attacked by Lucy Liu bots. They run into a movie theater and force feed the bots popcorn until they explode, injuring Fry's bot as she does a bodyguard jump to save them from the flying corn. The Lucy head and everyone else tell Fry he has to delete the Lucy copy, so he does a little dramatic crying thing and deletes her.

Fry: "Now maybe I can get to know the real Lucy Liu!"

Lucy blows him off and makes out with Bender.

I don't really agree with the guy you're shooting down, but I really doubt that ANY terrorist has a fucking snowman's chance in hell of destroying Luxemourg, much less the entire United States. Yes, 9-11 killed many, many people, and it disrupted normal life for SOME people in SOME parts of the country, but the shelves at your local grocery store are still nice and full. I'm not saying that we shouldn't try to combat terrorism, and not that we should hold back ANYTHING, but we can take many, many more losses of that magnatude. The maximum possible loss (don't want to rule out the missing yet) was about 1/50,000 (rough guess) of the US population. The NY stock markets, despite missing a horrible deal of it's people and infastructure, opened within the 4 day panic period. The most serious problem outside of the immediate few blocks arround the disaster areas is a shortage of flags.

Looking back, I sound dismissive, which I'm not. This is the worst thing that's happened to the United States since it became a superpower. It's hurt and killed many, many, many, many people and devestated those connected to them, and any campaign against terrorism will probably include many casualties on our side, but overall, as a nation, neither has much chance of slowing us down. I agree that we have to and ought to "do what it takes to stop these people" (so long as we don't go fucking wargasm on innocent people, or start taking hints from "The Siege"), but please don't pretend that "those people" have ANY chance WHAT-SO-FUCKING-EVER of beating us. They are a bunch of pissed off bastards, we are quite possibly the most powerful society in all of human history. Seriously, think about it. Can you name one group that could succesfully conquer the US as of today? Scares the shit outa me, but it's a little comforting to be inside it all at times like this. Sorry, getting way too philosophical. Gotta quit reading "Contact". Moreover, gotta stop talking.

PS. Sorry to anyone in Luxemourg, especialy if I spelled your country wrong.

#2 does make some sense, since the order you start the maze depends on how many points you have up to that point. I think the real bad thing about that part was the unessecary audience manipulation. It was kind of a cop-out way to drill it in to you to trust Moody. She probably could have gotten rid of that and let the invisible-on-the-stairway scene serve the same purpose. I would say to just let the other character's opinions of him do it, but real little kids might need him to DO something nice to trust him.

Anyway, I agree that the third book was better, though. The handling of the time travel actually might have deserved a Hugo. (she did a better job than First Contact, anyway)
