  2. Hmm... on Would Linux Survive if Solaris Was Free? · · Score: 1

If Solaris was all GPL from the beginning, nobody would have thought of making another free Unix.

If Solaris was freed today, we'd probably see just another fragmentation. Also, both Linux and Solaris would have ended up much richer and better since both could steal code from each other. That's the whole idea of software freedom! There's absolutely no reason why both couldn't have co-existed.

This is however extremely hypothetical. I doubt they'll ever free Solaris to the extent of GNU, but if they did, it would be infinitely cool!

I'm all for Linux, but spreading lies about Windows this way is not going to change the world for better. As for the article, it may be right about Win98SE being buggy (haven't tried it myself, but I hear it). Still, just because there are several ways to install it (full version CDs, upgrade CDs, service packs etc.) does NOT mean that there are several "versions" around!

    Just my .02 euros.

  10. Why hurry? on Kernel Feature freeze in 2 weeks? · · Score: 1

When all the features are in place. They freeze it so that they'll be able to work on getting things stable instead of putting in new things all the time. A feature freeze does not mean that things are stable.

  12. Single click... on Some KDE news · · Score: 1

Most KDE developers seems to be in favor of single click, which I think is a pity. I wish there could at least be an option to allow double click, as this seems much more logical and flexible to me (one click selects, two clicks executes). Single click is much more prone to mistakes (especially when selecting multiple files).

I can't believe these guys! I don't think they'll ever make up their minds. We've heard of so many "decisions", and "we are confident that..", and "we firmly belive that..", and pictures and napkin sketches of promising new arcitectures, and then some months pass and everything has changed.

I loved the Amiga, and it hurts to see what clowns are in charge of it now.

So QNX had 40 supposedly very talented engineers working on the "next generation" Amiga OS, and as soon as this is announced, completely different plans are announced. What's the point of all this???

I think now more than ever I believe a new Amiga will never see the light of day.

So what if they use the Linux kernel - in two weeks they'll use some other kernel. Very sad.

On another note, how can anyone think this new format is a good thing for preventing music piracy? One can always convert MP3s to MS Audio (Winamp already does this), and hey, it's even easier to distribute, hence the smaller file sizes!
