It is also likely that OOo is not a very good implementation of ODF with respect to reading and writing. It probably just unzips the whole file, parses it, puts it into its working data structures, and displays it; writing is probably the same thing in reverse.
I'm pretty sure that we will see something like super optimized zip-fs libraries for reading and writing that would allow fast update of just some bytes in the files. I can also think of a zip-xml parser, where the xml in memory is still compressed. It would read a block of the zip file into memory and uncompressed/recompress on the fly. Modifying the ODF file would be as fast as modifying a binary file.
I can't say how much I love this guy. Not because I will use his hack to play encrypted content, but just to show everyone that DRM is used to lock the users, not the data.
just like amatures do in automobile, aerospace, radio and other industries already covered by international patents
In these sectors amateurs won't be able to do mass production of cars, rockets whatever. As a FOSS developer, all I have to do is put the sources on sourceforge to have free worldwide distribution. If the software has a bit of success it can be a "danger" to the commercial counterpart.
> The free market is a very successful system. Certainly, but if commercial applications have been created to block banners, it's because there is a need. The banners, pop-up, pop-under, etc... are too annoying for the users.
If people are no more allowed to block what they don't want to see on their computer (it reminds me of another story), they simply won't go to the offending websites anymore. And it means no more revenue for these websites too.
I work in Brussels not too far from there, so I will surely go to see what happen.
Media will probably be there too. And what would be interesting is some simples arguments and examples to explain the problem to the *non-geek* people.
If someone has successfully managed to explain to his parents how software patent will hurt them, it would be kind to him to share it.
Let's assume the aliens have the best user interface possible (direct control by the mind).
The task of the virus should be to convince the computer to do a very stupid and long task (get all the numbers of PI for instance) and convince it that this task is of very high priority.
This was the finale in 3001 from Arthur C Clarke, but explained with great talent.
The OGM container allows the use of one video stream, multiple sound tracks in whatever format (.ogg,.mp3,.mpc,.ac3-wav) as long as you have the correct libraries. It allows multiple subtitle files (.str) and chapters. All of this in ONE file.

The articles on the government website in french and dutch.

Sometimes I use my brain.
When will I be sued for remembering old stories and telling it to others ?

Maybe some actions against the patent office should be considered.
;-)
I mean maybe the FFII could sue the patent office for every stupid patent.
For everyone, discredit as much as possible the patent system, in articles, at work, in our familly, etc... insist on the importance of copyrights.
People should laugh at companies or persons willing to patent something (software).
Listing of patents should not be seen as a benefit for a software (look at the splash screen of Adobe Acrobat).
Another alternative could be to automatically grant the use of the idea to every project that will not make financial benefits from it...
And btw, I wouldn't be sorry if some crackers manage to delete the big patent database...
Sheila Broflovski: Just remember what the MPAA says: Horrific, deplorable violence is okay, as long as people don't say any naughty words!

Maybe your free market is smelling rotten.

Orgazmo by Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
Shaolin Soccer.
C'est arrivé près de chez vous. This movie is realy my favorite movie ever.
Many commercials have meant to be bad.
You're watching TV, a commercial piss you terribly and you decide to never buy this product.
Later at the store when you will have to choose between two products, it's the one with the most familiar name that you will buy.
Make the monolith send spam to itself at high priority.
Stella... Berk !
Try 'La Gauloise'.

My huge red Gravis Ultra Sound (1Mb of RAM),
My own,

Don't forget 'Serial Experiment Lain'. The geekest anime ever.
