ZeoSync's HTML site will be available January 13, 2002 with costumer service agents providing chat assistance.

Or will there be online help for Halloween costumes? I am sorry but I think this is a ruse just like the Seti@Home Accelerator

Course orginally they were GIVEN the freq's to cover the costs. Damn, this corp BS really pisses me off, some people just don't know when they have it good enough. Oh well, they will probably get their way and the tax payers will just foot the bill.

As for having rights to the movies, I think the MPAA has stated that you are only purchaseing the rights to view them under certain regions, so their stance is gonna be to just buy them all again. But then again in my opinion the MPAA sucks the large one.

I guess my opinion on broad proccess based patents (especially ones involving circular buffers) are unfair, and stifle buissness. But to each his own on that one.

My mistake on the supporting Linux, but lets be honest, the Trasmeta isn't a great peice of work. I have had a PCG-C1VN Transmeta based Sony Picturebook for about 6 months, and while the battery life is great, the CPU is pretty under powered for a 600mhz (I have a Toshiba 600mhz laptop, and it runs circulars around my Sony, but only gets like 3 hours). I guess my point is the Trasmeta has just not lived up to the hype, least not yet (but then again with the market the way it is, they might not be around long).

  9. You are supporting a patent monopoly........ on SonicBlue's Digital Audio Center · · Score: 3, Interesting

By purchasing from SonicBlue you are supporting thier DVR patents, which are broad and unfair. Not that Tivo is much better by patenting similar items, but at the very least Tivo supports Linux, so they are the lesser of two evils (cause Micro$oft is in the mix now).

As for price, 1500 dollars is CRAZY, when competeing products with the same capabilities are half or less. Anyway, the wave of the future is networked audio, cause then you can just share out your PC, and we all know how freaking cheap PC storage is (can you say 3 or 4 100 gig RAID 0 IDE's, for about half the cost of the SonicBlue).

  10. Tivo.... on Comparing the DVRs? · · Score: 1

I opted for DirecTivo, cause you can record 2 channels at once, and since it is Tivo (which is Linux) you can hack the hell outta it (adding a 100 gig HD really kicks the record time though the roof (and it is cheap too).

Does Hawkins frequently take the "Devil's Advocate" stance because he wants to be proven wrong? I remember reading a piece written by him to that effect. Because if for whatever reason he is correct in there being no Higgs Boson then he would be viewed as a genius for thinking differntly, and if he is wrong, well the scientific community still wins out because it upholds existing ideas. Guess my point is this isn't the first time he has taken counterpoint at the last minute or made a bet like this.

But on 3 separtate occasions I have had payments held, and also on one occasion I have had my account frozen. And yes it did take me FOREVER to get a hold of anyone on the phone (thank god for "free" LD on my cell). I was told it was a "routine" random freeze, blah blah blah, several days later they "unfroze" my account. These aren't mad scientists playing frankenstien people. Geesh, I would have figured at least /. types would have enough sense and education to not be drawn into the regular moronic hysteria.

As for the polio/AIDS bit, they did tests on some old frozen blood/tissue samples and found no link, so that whole connection is unfounded. More then likely AIDS was either around for a long time and didn't become prevelant till people could travel great distances quickly (lets be honest, would have been pretty easy to confuse with consumpltion/TB back in the "old days") or AIDS was a simian virus that made the jump to humans at some point (we are all primates).

So all and all, lets calm down, this will not turn into 12 monkeys, if anything it should bring a lot of really sick kids some hope (Cystic Fibrosis), or will we let our hysteria ruin any chance of that?

Sometimes you need fresh code, hell that is what Carmack does with each new ID game.
