For some use cases, the performance of an SSD might not even beat a cheap spinny disk.
So fixating on a narrow definition of typically is really extraordinarily stupid.
Ooof, you make my head hurt. Wish I had some mod points to downvote this. In MOST use cases, SSDs will be a tremendous speed upgrade. As most people here are saying, the idea is to have both an SSD for OS/application installs, and a traditional HDD for media storage. That is far from a "narrow definition of [typical]". It is ideal for most people, if they can afford it.
Interestingly enough, the most reliable SSDs I know of are made by Samsung. I have a set of Samsung 830 SSDs (128GB and 256GB sizes) that have been going strong for about twelve months now... The Plextor M5S 128GB is also proving to be quite reliable in my desktop.
Which Samsung SSD are you running that's so unreliable? Sounds like you should just RMA it, tbh.
My Samsung SSD 840 500GB has been extremely solid.
Maybe you really should just get a Windows Phone? And where's the outrage for the nonexistent access to Google services on Windows Phone? Even though there are more than 30 million WPs in the wild, Google is obviously doing their best to drive people to Android. I guess everyone's just crying because Android is the market share leader?
Ever tried using any "application for most popular OS since mid-90's" on a touchscreen? Keyboard and mouse oriented interfaces *suck* on a 10" touchscreen.
Well, then, hook up a keyboard and mouse. Touch is optional.
Possibly stupid question: where's the video that leaked? I can't find it on that site or the one it links to as a source. Anyone know?/Could be my noscript causing problems
Did you miss Greg Palast's BBC newsnight report on the fraud in the 2000 election which put Bush Jr. in charge? Maybe you did as for some reason almost no American news broadcaster covered it.
Uhhh, no, the 2000 election mess was quite well covered here in the states.
Since you have the phone and might be able to answer this, i don't use facebook, or any other social networking stuff, except form msn messenger, can that strong integration be removed or hidden, ie, if i don't use it, i don't want those tiles to show up nor options to be available to use the social networking?
Absolutely. Any tile can be removed or added from the start screen, while of course it will still be available in the long app list when you flick to the right.
I know one person who has a windows phone, and he's very happy with it (iirc htc mozart). I'm a bit late to the smartphones, only getting one a few months ago, in an SGS i9000 and i'm really disappointed, gotta go to optus and whinge see if i can get something else out of them under warranty, phone doesn't like working all the time. Im unhappy with android, it's a real backward step going from a phone which is comparatively low on features, but works reliably, to a phone with lots of features, when they work, because it's not reliable. I am considering a win phone only because from independant reviews, it looks like ms is trying to push a good product.
Actually WP7 is perfect for someone like you, much simpler than Android but still nearly as powerful. I have a Samsung Focus and love it.
The thing is Windows Mobile is not a inferior OS (for once). But MS's history has burned so many in the past that people are just turned off by the idea of a Windows mobile phone.
This is pretty much the long and short of it.
Also, WP7 is just competing against more mature offerings, with more features to entice new users. WP7 is quite nice to use (I have a Samsung Focus), and it does most tasks well, but it still falls behind when compared to Android and iPhone in a lot of tasks, simply because it's younger.
IMO, WP7 (vs. Android or iPhone) is ideal for 3 types of people: - If you want a really simple but still powerful smartphone, then check out WP7. iPhone is a very close 2nd in this category, but WP7 is incredibly simple to use. - If you are heavy into Facebook or Twitter, then you should look at WP7. The Social hubs are unmatched. - If you love finding and downloading new music, then you should check out Zune Pass + WP7. Although they did just get rid of their $15/month-but-with-10-free-songs deal, the $10/month for a huge music library you can download to your hearts content is still quite nice.
Otherwise, honestly, you will probably find more things to like about an Android or iPhone. Although you should still check out WP7 and see if the UI can swing you like it did me.
Yeah, where is the citation for that $500 million amount? You're probably confusing the marketing budget for Windows Phone, which was indeed that much.
I've had a Samsung Focus since January. Never had to reboot it. WP7 is fine for the average person, just like the iPhone. Most features are well thought out and easy to use. Mango will be adding quite a few features that are missing. And the Focus can tether, with a simple software hack. Also, apps are being added to the marketplace faster than any other phone OS, so that negative will be nullified in a year or two.
EXACTLY. People do not realize that DUI checkpoints REQUIRE PUBLIC NOTICE. You will see ads in your local newspaper and some mention on your local TV news in the morning on where your local DUI checkpoints will be located. When you come upon a DUI checkpoint, there is supposed to be signage alerting you to the fact and allowing you to do a u-turn if you desire.
DUI checkpoints are not mandatory and are supposed to be advertised. These apps should not be considered illegal, if DUI checkpoints are not.
I should note that these requirements are for Florida, where I have experience with DUI law. I'm not sure if this is the case in other states.
I had a Zune HD and loved it. For media playing, it was indeed better than the iPod.
However the one big thing the iPod had going for it was the apps. So if you cared about that, then yes the iPod was better. Zune HD's apps basically sucked; had a few decent games though. The browser was fine, my brother uses it all the time with various WiFi connections since I got a WP7.

Sure about that? This was just in the news yesterday.

It's Slashdot. This was probably posted just to top off the MS vitriol quotient around here.
MS may use other countries for support, but the quality is really not any less, at least in my experience.
If anyone broke anyone, it was Nintendo putting a size 6 Japanese boot in both Microsoft and Sony's ass.... at the same time.
Wish I had mod points, thought that was rather funny I did.

The video was never released to the public.

Nice post. I have a Samsung Focus and love WP7, hopefully people will get past their anti-MS sentiment enough to give it a try.

The "last windows phone" you had was probably Windows Mobile, a totally different organism entirely.
The only people with WP7 phones are MS employees. Now why would they write exploits and risk losing their job?
I have one. Not an MS employee. Sorry to have to kill that one.

On a side note, does anyone know if Microsoft got copy and paste working on WP7? Or have they fixed the WiFi so it can connect other than DHCP?
Yes, and yes.

Kinect is a success ... get over it.
Tarps, fans, salty foods, water. You sweat, the wind cools you. Unless you build insulated buildings with HVAC systems, that is the best you can do.

Technically, you never have the right-of-way. You are GIVEN the right-of-way, but you never actually have it. Yes, it's confusing.
Ahhh, good old Waldo, Fl. :)
I love the billboards someone put up along that stretch of highway to alert you to the speed traps coming up.
