Very handy for hospitals whose equipment can potentially be sensitive to the high interference caused by cell phones. (Not going into if they actually are, but when someones life is on line, you don't second guess).

Also for airplanes. As it has been discussed, it's not an issue of interference for the plains electronics, but rather huge stress for the network.
Could be handy to mount some of these at the airplanes ceiling and equip it with a moderately toned piezo buzzer to remind anyone who has forgotten to switch off their phone. Shouldn't get false positives from terminal either while on ground, as the planes are usually more than 30 meters from there.
The piezo buzzer would be probably sufficiently collectively annoying to encourage any bonehead to shut off their phone too :)

I wouldn't consider trying to hit the silly little receiver very interesting either. Very easy to cheat by just covering the damn thing.
Also, you can observe the exactly same behaviour with bullets as with the paint balls. Just in larger scale. If you really are doing some sharp shooting you must inherently calculate the effect of wind, gravity, small twigs and so on on the fly while trying to hit your enemy. They ship exactly what the customer wants. In cell-phone markets it's common to "roll your own" processor. You basically order the ARM core and then tell them exactly what instructions you want to be in the chip. They will deliver that.

I actually have never tried starbucks. There isn't one here in Tampere. I couldn't find one in Helsinki either with quick googling. I'm not sure if we actually have a single starbucks in Finland :P Locator didn't list Finland either. Might be that they have hard time selling here because coffee is offered in practically every store which sells anything food related. 1 euro for your bog standard cup of coffee.

Yup, different tastes. My father used to buy his coffee from a small shop which hand ground and mixed to your specification or preferred 'style'. He then chucked a spanish one-cup espresso cooker full of that strong roast and out came some hideous stuff that resembled used motor oil. Didn't need to drink more than a spoonfull of that to keep awake thou :P

On the topic of what time costs. I consider my free time absolutely worthless. I waste it on drinking, reading slashdot or watching cartoons anyway. I would find a nice hardware hacking project much more better value for my time than my usual activities.

I made Linux 2.2 (with some basic software) run on 25mhz 486dx with 8 megs of memory just for the challenge of it. Learned hell of a lot of how Linux works in the process too. I say, to the original author: Go for it!
#linux on IRCNet is very helpfull if you show atleast moderate experience so they can actually instruct you without teaching how to use an editor first.
