Ahh, another one which I almost forgot. I have a habit of killing my terminals which I have forgot open to other machines with: skill -KILL -U fizzl Then, at one time I had forgot several root terminals open from the physical machine while doing some upgrading. w *oh, many root terminals doing nothing...* su - root skill -KILL -U root *wondering why evertyhing seems to be failing*
In short, I killed all root owned processes, thus rendering the machine unusable remotely. I was on the road, so I couldn't just init it again. Called my wife. I didn't bother to try and explain how to login to the machine and run init. Just a rude powercycle. *Sigh* Goodbye uptime:)
I think paper magazines are better for just entertainment.
Only magazine I subscribe to is Aku Ankka. (Finnish for Donald Duck. Apparently way more popular here than in states.;))
I read economy related and the yellow press while visiting the local pub. They are quite entertaining too. Bickering and speculating about stock prices, or gossip about latest teen pop-star. What's the difference anyway?;P) To come think of it, I don't even own any computer related magazine more recent than two years or so.
No moderation can do any good for this comment, so I'm replying. Who should/could/would/want to export Linux from USA?
God damn, Linux is not product of any USA corporation. It's purely global effort, started by a Finnish student. No export laws can apply to it. Any country. Ever.
Someone tell me how to run everquest (DX9) under Linux and I'm so there.
I just spent yesterday downloading a virus scanner, scanning all my data on the machine and my file server, cleaning up and setting up the firewall which I forgot after last reinstall of windows. (Got Nachi.B ad some other remote exploit worm.)
I only noticed I'm infected when I needed to poke around with ethereal and noticed that I AM spouting shit in the network.
Not really, but I was lucky enough to see the front page so I'll post a sample picture. Here's the better of the two pictures on the front page: orac3.jpg
(This ain't blazingly fast server either, so my apologizies if it's dead already)
Hmm, does Linux still go all unresponsive with this?
while(1) fork();
I recall I just wanted to see what would it do on our small schools shell machine sometime back in -95 or so. The admin was rather pissed at me when I mailed him about the problem after the machine was brought back to life. Well, not really. He just said I should not test such things on production servers, plus quoted a paragraph from a lawbook showing I was already violating some law.
JIT is a fuckinng fad. Don't you people understand that the overhead of JIT always outweights the advantages. The fucking JIT compiler has to be on look ALWAYS for any code it could optimize. However, very rarely it can actually find anything that makes a difference. Just drop it please. Now.
Learn some assembler. Learn some programming. You will eventually understand what an idiot you have been. I don't even understand how theoretically smart people can even vouch for scripting languages such as php, perl or java for any performance critical applications.
Check out how lex and yacc work. Create your application with those and compare it to your god damn JIT'ed java application. Guess once which on wins.
This is a nonissue. If the point was to demostrate that you could take something off the internet by forging a copyright notice, I'm not too concerned. You break multiple laws by doing that. No need to invent new ones. We are also talking about digital content on the internet, which is trivial to reproduce from backups or what have you. Most likely the ISP wouldn't really delete the content but relocate it to unreachable place incase a mistake happens.
I have to admit I would be a bit miffed if this happened to me. Then again, I run my own server so that rather unlikely.;)
In case you are in Finland (which I'm fairly sure the parent is not), you can get free safety equipment from Ursa to view the transit. Email them for further instructions. I think there is some Ursa personnel at Tähtitorninmäki ("The observatory hill"), handing out filters.
Look. The company is making gazillion products a year. So what if some of them look like a candy bar and have oddball features like this? Does that take anything from you? No, it's-funny-laugh-debt.
If they sold the games for two-thirds of their original price, the price of second hand software would simply fall to even lower levels, and the cycle would repeat.
I disagree. There is just a spot where it is worthwhile to sell your used game instead of keeping it 'just for collection'. If the prices would dramatically drop, it would be much rarer ocassion that someone would want to part from their original game for miniscule payback. Also, the demand for second-hand games would decline if the games would be reasonably priced. Say, 20 euros for the latest hit game would make me buy games just for the heck of it.
Currently I only play EverQuest and Americas Army. They have decent value for money (I buy EverQuest expansions when they hit the cheapo-bin at my local store). I'm not going to cough up 50 euros for yet-another-FPS.
There's nothing chauvinistic about it. Ok, perhaps the wording.
I think it is perfectly reasonable to expect her to keep up the house if the man is bringing in the money. If both are working, the household work should be split evenly.
I think it would be very inconsiderate and unfair to expect the man to make a long day at work, pick up groceries, come home, cook and then wash the dishes. (While the other party is sitting on her fat ass;))...(been there)
Ah, yes sorry. :/
Didn't even remember about different table types in it. Always using the default MyISAM
There are also lots of databases that do not have transactions, henca no commits or rollbacks.
...oh right! MySQL!
Just let me think of some DB that is actually used somewhere
(If there is transactions in MySQL, I stand corrected, but they must have added the support just recently)

I bet many others have done something similiar.... Once trashed my machines config with:
/etc
su - root
cd
emacs (something)
ls
ls *~
*hmm, lotsa backup files*
rm -f * ~
*oops, shit*
ls
*curses*
Make a note of the space between * and ~
And this only applies when you are relying for the algorithm to be the secret part. Something modern cryptotheory considers inadequate. (Well, duh. :))
Here comes Tampere!

So here's a fully functional mirror!

Sounds like someone got carried away with the 24HDC...
And he actually managed to get a plug on Slashdot. This is just slightly pathetic.
Your already winning! :)

1% should equal to about $17 now
The auction
And ofcourse, by the time you read this, it might be even higher. Congratulations! Pretty damn good ROI in just few hours

Well, that wasn't quite the point of my post, but yeah, that could happen.

Umm, no.
This is the unfortunate effect of R&D responsing to marketting without doubts.
Look, this is slashdot. There might be better answers out there, but I'll just summarize them all for you:
Forget it!

Nuhhuh...
What's with the topic?
I don't think this has anything to do with origami. It should read something like:
Games: Make Your Own Paper Doll Cloth Videogame Arcade
