It's just a massive waste of money when you can get the same information, even more actually, online on the web and it's updated within minutes vs. waiting around until the next day for your "news".
Not having constant updates is a plus for those who don't wan't to spend their whole day reloading sites like slashdot for fear of missing something.
If I had to rely on the newspaper to learn about the attacks on 9/11 I would've been clueless until 7am the following morning.
Maybe if you lived in the middle of nowhere and either had no family/friends or a telephone, but I'd imagine that those who live like that don't feel the need to always be up to date with current events.
There's an interesting PDF over at Animation Meat called Brad Bird on Comps, which has him scribbling all over shots from King of the Hill showing what's wrong with them.

How about combo boxes, that only show X number of items. and you have to scroll to see the last 3. Until recently, AutoCAD was one of the worst examples of this, with it's layers toolbar popup, that only showed 10 items and truncated them horizontally (even though most AutoCAD drawings have many more layers and they often have similar names, so they appear the same in the tiny list at the top of the screen).
Or how about non-resizable dialogs with a set number of items in a list which displays all of the items minus one. WTF!?!
Don't they realize that those of us that went thgough the trouble of putting our numbers on tht list won't buy anything from them? Why are they wasting their time and ours?
It wasn't the Quicktime Player that won them anything other than a place in the Interface Hall of Shame.
It was Quicktime itself, which has been around far longer than the player/plug-in that people now know from watching movie trailers online. The reason it has contributed to video/film editing is because of the features and formats it offered to 3rd-party editing and presentation software.
No, I don't mean the ads that people get to skip by downloading TV shows.
There are several TV shows that I first saw online (either from File sharing nets, torrents, or Winamp TV stations), and then started to watch on TV, mainly because I missed the first season or so and got to catch myself up.
If I hadn't seen them that way, I never would have gotten hooked in the first place, and whether I downloaded them or not, I wouldn't have seen the original ads.
I also certainly wouldn't buy a DVD set for a TV show that I've never seen before, but I've bought a couple for shows that I originally downloaded. I've got all of NewRadio on my computer, and I can't wait until they finally get around to releasing the set.
With a movie, you download it, watch it, and maybe if you REALLY like it, you go and buy it anyway. With TV, it's totally different. You get hooked, and come back for more (usually on the TV). You can easily make CDs for friends and get them hooked too (I got a whole bunch of people to start watching Arrested Development that way).
It's free advertising. They are morons if they don't see that.
"I was dissappointed by the mini teleporter since it doesnt telefrag an object already on the "recieving" side."
I was disappointed that sending trying to send two objects together didn't meld them into one. In fact, I also tryed sending a cardboard box with Alyx on her trip, but no, she didn't have a cardboard box for a head on the other end.:(

Even the smallest level of interactivity- like bumping in to the computer monitor as seen in the E3 video, has been removed.
I was disappointed by that too. But, on the plus side, you CAN play with the mini teleporter in the corner of the office until it breaks down.
No way to say "wait here and DO NOT FOLLOW ME". Squads do not understand the concept of "huge open area surrounded by snipers"
Actually, you can. The C key tells them to go somewhere. You just can't get too close, because then they will automatically rejoin you (as if you hit C twice). There were a few areas where I just left them behind and cleared the way for them.
Of course that was before I realized that you just get more when they die, and having them come along is just better for you because the enemies have more to shoot at.
Water is pretty, but take a look around reality for five minutes and you may notice that not all water reflects in exactly the same way or moves at exactly the same speed.
I think most of the water looked great, but the only thing that really bothered me was the water by the beach. That was pathetic.
They've got this great water shader that makes realistic waves, but the water stands perfectly still where it touches the sand? And I'm not even expecting surf. Just a simple wake that moved in and out. Maybe a bit of a caustic effect on the sand below the water. Both could be done with simple animated textures.
One of the scenes that impressed me the most was the bridge (my fear of heights seriously kicked in when the train passed overhead), but the illusion was killed when I looked down and saw the water and sand.
Pacific Fighters (a flight sim) payed more attention to beach detail. It also did a better job of animated waves without noticable tiling.
And let's not forget, if you install a pirated version of the software, the EULA has no binding on the developer. If the developer is the one who released it for free, then I don't see how they aren't resposible.
Speaking of golden showers, here's a video this crowd might enjoy:
Video Computer System by Golden Shower
Kind of old, but definitely a classic.

Knowing Microsoft, they'll actually write it in at least three places on that splash screen.

"Um, did I say that?"
The post I replied to did.
His job is to screw around on stage for a bit, get a bunch of laughs, and get paid for it, and he's a loser?
I'm sure that when he tells people he has a poular one-man play where he basically pokesfun at star wars, they think he's just another geek.
Maybe he'd be better off spending his time here?

How will they get the ads to the users then?
Right, because a party full of computer nerds is going to get everyone's attention.
"As for the Internet; sure, it's what I use for 99% of my fact checking"
Because if it's on the internet, it has to be true!

This feature is not included with Firefox or Thunderbird, as it is with full Mozilla.
There is an extension that adds it back to Firefox (Thunderbird evenetually), but there are some side effects.
Um, what does any of this have to do with guns?

Um, how is wha you did different from what the spammers are doing in the first place?
And the guy you replied to is just helping them by feeding them info they normally generate at random themselves.
Brilliant.

Too bad you weren't using it before last fall, when you could download all you wanted for the same price that now gets you 40 songs per month.
Still an OK deal though.

It was last year, and they were probably set on Steam distribution long before that.
I think you have this game confuesd with Halo 2.
Testimonial and tutorial.
Crap like this is why the first thing I do after buying a game is download the crack.
You trust the cracks that you donload from unknown sources more than you trust Steam?
I don't trust either.
