    Hey dumbass, I'm not the person originally posting how the other movies "were better" than Titanic.

    Box office sales should not mean anything for award shows.

    Never did I give the large box office as a reason for Titanic to win. I listed the large box office as proof that there were many people that enjoyed the movie.

    Just because a lot of people saw it does not mean it is a good movie

    In your opinion a movie may or may not be good. The box office proves whether a movie was popular, and whether or not it had staying power. If it had staying power, like Titanic, then it definitely meant a lot of people liked the movie enough to recommend it to friends and see it multiple times.

    Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers.

    As a loyal slashdot reader, I'm well aware.

    That's just it, he presented it as fact, and tried to provide evidence (the other movies). Like looking at the list of movies just proves it. I liked all the movies up for the award that year, ESPECIALLY Titanic.

    Those of us not cold and cynical liked it a lot. Witness the huge box office.

    I do not think it was LaPlace. Try this google search. It searches for the exact quote and the word Sagan. You can see it is attributed to Carl Sagan all over the place, in some places referred to as Sagan's Law.

    Since you're quoting Carl Sagan (who often said, "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence"), I would suggest a great book of his that talks a lot about UFO's (or lack thereof) and skepticism in general: The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark.

    Well if you read about the mousepad in question, you'd know that the one you linked to does NOWHERE NEAR the same! Anyone can do a touchpad like that. The cool thing about this mousepad is the gesture technology built in.

    They also have cool keyboards that have no keys on them, they feel your fingers touch the space where the key is painted. You might be thinking, so what. However, realize that if you touch this keyboard with multiple fingers at once, in certain configurations, you can use it as a mousepad as well! (as well as other shortcuts that can be done with gestures)

    These things look badass!

    Mainly because slashdot is what it is because of the articles picked for our consumption by the editors, for better or worse.

    All slashdot needs is about 1 line of perl code to prevent duplicate articles (or at least, stop them most of the time, or display a warning when a duplicate is likely.

    I mean, it's not rocket science!

    However, a blog where readers submit the stories and other readers approve the stories, and other readers comment on the stories, and other readers moderate those comments... now THAT is an interesting idea, indeed!

    It is agreed upon by all that 12AM is 12 midnight, and 12PM is 12 noon. There is no conflict. Yes it would be better had they used the terms 12 midnight and 12 noon, but they didn't.
