Yes, I know that the problem is the kid and NOT the game... but if that's the attitude of a human being on in this country... that he might just like to shoot me for the fun of it... then maybe games like this shouldn't be allowed to coexist in the same place with this person. There ARE clealy people in this world who have very little respect for human life. Who aren't intelligent enough to delineate between a video game and reality.
Lots of people have killed people "for fun," with no video game influence at all. I don't see how you are linking them together?
10) Re-release in theatres with special CGI effects, such as: An additional 'ring' of flame exploding around Mount Doom when the ring is finally destroyed; instead of Gandalf destroying the bridge at Khazad-dum, the Balrog takes a potshot at him underneath the table, THEN Gandalf destroys the bridge!
11) Prequel: The Silmarillion. Melkor will be played by Jar Jar Binks, with N-Sync making a special appearance as the Silmarils. (But don't worry, they are only on-screen for a second or so.)
Do I even want to hear about it in the first place? Why should I be forced to hear about it in the first place?
If you walk by a store, there is a chance that the store owner will attempt to sell you his wares, whether or not you're wearing underwear connected to the internet... hate to break it to ya...
I can just see the day when I walk by Starbucks and my pants will analyse the last time I urinated and determines what size of latte would be perfect for me.
If Starbucks can tell you might be refreshed by a mocha latte as you walk by their store, and they offer one tailored specifically to you, do you HAVE to buy it?
But in terms of voiding warranties, possibly destroying hardware, and overheating delicate computer systems, I never really had the urge to do it. I just can't understand the reasoning behind overclocking a processor just to squeeze a couple of extra megahertz out of it, when it's nearly impossible to tell the difference between MHz these days.
I don't know where you got the idea that overclockers only eek out a few MHz? Most people overclock only when they can spend far less money on a chip that can be overclocked to perform the same (or better) than the more expensive chips.
The celeron 300a was a classic. You could easily overclock it to 450MHz, and it would perform on par with those 450-MHz rated chips, for a fraction of the price. Some people went way beyond 450MHz with them. With water cooling, crazier numbers are possible.
Keep in mind that most of the chips that are popular for overclocking are actually the SAME exact chips as their overpriced, higher-rated brethren. The difference is that they didn't cut the mustard off the assembly line, so they were set to run at lower/safer MHz levels. The overclockers just risk moving them back up on par with the higher-rated chips.
The new movies don't seem focused on the story line. I mean, what have pod racers to do with Vaders character developement? Anyone see him race pods later in life? No? No duh.
I disagree. The pod race showed off his extreme driving abilities (remember "no other human has the reflexes to pod race"). Later on he does the same type of thing in the plane he gets caught in. You may not see him in a pod later on, but you sure as hell see him in a TIE fighter.
Including the droids was a mistake. Later in life, did the just forget to mention what they knew about Vader?
Assuming they don't have their memories reprogrammed between now and then, what would they divulge exactly?
It should come as no surprise that the next movie is a rental. If you go to the theater, don't complain here. IT WILL SUCK!
I know a guy who has a brother whose girlfriend has been sleeping with someone at Blizzard in an attempt to get him on the Beta list. She said that there is a typo on the Beta page and signup really isn't until the January 9th.
I find this VERY hard to believe!
I mean, you actually know someone that has a girlfriend? Yeah, whatever...
The second wave will be a full blown cost analysis comparison case study between Linux and Windows in a variety of usage scenarios (web, file and print, etc.) done independently by the analysts for us.
While many people hate Microsoft and make Bill Gates the butt of every joke, very few people who know him ever call his character into question.
Uhhh yeah dude, maybe because they are scared of his power? Why burn a bridge with BG if you want to do well in the industry?
As for Romero, I agree. When they were working on Quake, and all the hype going with it, I decided one night to try a 'talk jromero@idsoftware.com' (or whatever his address was at the time). A few seconds later I was chatting with him at work. I think the conversation went something like this:
JR: Hello
Me: Whoa! Are you the real John Romero?
JR: Yes
Me: What are you doing at the office this late?
JR: Dude, I just got in to work.
Me: Cool.
Reading this post makes me so very happy that I work at a small startup that has NO politics like this. Sheesh!

one previous respondent had said something to the effect of, "..this is just like digging in a cash drawer.." this isn't just any kind of theft.. it's the ultimate kind! a better imperfect analogy would be: "..the store leaves $20, $50, and $100 dollar bills hanging from displays at the counter.."
No, that's a terrible analogy, since you're stealing from the customer that paid for the card, not the store, as you would be if they left money hanging around.
Actually your comment illustrates a very common/. perception error, that Computer Science is all about coding on and networking between mass produced components.
No, I don't think anyone going into computer science thinks it's all about "coding on mass produced components." However, I DO think many people from a programming background expect the focus to be more on programming computers, rather than more of the theoretical aspects of computers, which is what I found out.
... did you know that getting a CS degree has very little to do with PROGRAMMING?
I am in the same boat as you, and when I attended [a state school in Florida well known for computer science], I was surprised that the focus is entirely on the Science of Computing. Sure, some classes require you to know how to program in a certain language, but that is not the focus. The focus is on MATH. At least in the first years (that's as far as I got;-). Lots of calculus, and the hideous "discrete structures" courses.::shudder::
In short, I don't see how a human could possibly get a CS degree in one year.
HDTV is worth it, but you can't balk at spending USD$5000-$10,000. If you're going to "go cheap", you're better off waiting.
I completely disagree. I bought my 50" 16:9 Toshiba for $2400 at Best Buy (when they had one of those 18 month, zero percent interest days!).
No expensive tuner required, as Time Warner provides me with the HDTV digital cable box for a $25 deposit, and an additional (measly) $4 a month extra. My favorite HD channel is HBO, as their original programming looks wonderful in HD, and they broadcast a lot of movies in HD. But there's also NBC, CBS, and Showtime. (ABC, FOX, and PBS coming in January.)
If you don't already own a DVD player with component outputs, you can get one (with progressive scan) for around $200 or less. When I watch DVD's now, it's like I'm at the movies. Better actually, since you don't have any cell phones ringing or projection problems!
Yes, eventually you should get a DD receiver and surround sound speakers, but you can still really enjoy your HD TV without them.
I bought my HDTV for watching DVD's and any HD content that is available. It was definitely worth it.
A year or so ago, I found this little beauty: PassFace Technology [realuser.com] -- Give it a try. You click on people's faces to get in.
What was interesting was that in finding that URL, I went back to the site for the first time in over a year, and was able to log-in no problem. I remembered my combination of faces.
Under your definition of free speech, the only way to restrict free speech is to (physically) gag someone.
No, under 'my' definition of freedom of speech, your first ammendment rights are only taken away from you when your speech is prevented by threat of force. For example, "stop spreading your message or you will be put in jail."
If you disagree, please give an example of another time when you feel your first ammendment rights would be violated WITHOUT a threat of force.
These guys are actually standing at the BACK of the line!
Who the hell still reads posts from AC's?
Certainly not I.

9) Complete boxed set
And then:

putting on a fat exhaust, aftermarket boom radio, and an intercooler for more speed and 'wow!' factor
Don't forget tweaking your wheels until they are turned inwards and bending the axles!
I also enjoy the spoilers that are so large and fat (and misfitted) that they actually INCREASE the drag on the car.
It's funny how so few of these souped up cars actually do the one thing that would speed up the vehicle -- add a turbo supercharger.

That's funny, I would have thought the fan would be jealous of the water cooler.

Yes, I'm sure it will be completely un-biased.
I know, MS is targeted because it's more popular... so explain how IIS has more exploits than Apache even though the latter is far more widely used?)
Because Microsoft IIS comes packed with more extravagant features than Apache?
Why, what did you think the answer is?
While many people hate Microsoft and make Bill Gates the butt of every joke, very few people who know him ever call his character into question.

That's another thing... Macs don't age nearly as fast as PCs do... hell, I'm still using a 3-year old 350 MHz box for professional web design
This is a nice way of saying, "I can't upgrade my 3-year old Mac because Apple's hardware is too expensive." Right?
I may not be going "out", but I'm still going to drink for 6 or 7 hours and get completely trashed with my friends.
Me, too! But then I will follow that up by driving home.
I hope I don't meet any of you by accident!
(Yes, I'm joking.)
(As far as you know. Lookout!)

I'd rather have the cash-starved airlines investing in the security and maintenance than this.
Why do their investments have to be 'either-or'?
I'd rather they invest in security, maintenance, AND improvements like this all at the same time.

HDTVs are well over-priced when compared with wide low-res TVs.
Unless you're watching real HD content, in which case I would say wide, low-res TV's don't cut it...
What a swindle! No DVD's do better than 480p
But HD sets offer your DVD player component output (better quality than S-Video), and more importantly, PROGRESSIVE SCAN.
