  1. The problem is the transition... on Paperless Billing? · · Score: 1

...getting used to not receving a paper bill and remembering to look at the emails and not consider them spam. That was my problem initially. Now I'm fine with the process, find it to be a more immediate response. Instead of spending time signing the check, filling the blanks in the form, stuffing the envelope and ensuring all my details are where they should be, licking the stamp, and going to the post office, or out to my mailbox to wait a few days for the check to clear, I just type some fields, enter some data, click ok twice, and it's all done. Gotta love the simplicity.

This is quite possibly one of the more underrated games out there. Just would be nice if the developers had a larger staff and didn't run into the number of problems the game experiences.

The issue isn't with the emails getting harvested. The issue is with a global infrastructure that uses an old policy of sending emails.

We need a new improved protocol that does a level of authentication at the host/isp level to say, this is a legitemate server with an emal from an acceptable user. All isps should be held up to a spam policy enforcement where if a user violates the policy, are automatically terminated, and their name, with evidence provided of course, is sent to a spammer list system to keep track of these individuals. If a spammer bounces around to a new isp, the isp can check the system and see if this person is listed.

This would require all ISPs to verify the user signing up for the account, and placing strict penalties on the user such as fines. If the right pieces are in place, we can see a substantial amount of email gone in a few years.

I worked for Barnesandnoble.com doing QA work. On sunday night at 9:30pm, I get a call from my rep at the temp agency (I had a perm position with BN.com). He tells me that BN is letting me go. I didn't have time to get a copy of the sunday paper to look at the classifieds because all the places were closed.

About 2 months later I get a job offer from IBM.com through a new agency, which I take. That week, I get a call from the rep from the previous agency askinng me to take a job with him at some company, and he would offer me more money than what IBM was offering. I told him no.

    ------------------

Someone who worked with me at another dot com was asked to have a meeting with management around 3pm. They told her they had to let her go, immediately, but he's a two week serveance package. She then told them she had a new job lined up already that starts monday.

I was glad it worked out for her in that case because management was a bunch of dumb fudges which is fodder for a whole nother post.

    ---------------------

When I worked at IBM, during my first few weeks there, we had a small group of html monkeys, including myself there working on their redesign. One person wasn't doing well, and she was let go. Unforunately she wasn't told she was let go until she showed up monday morning to find someone in her seat. I knew as of that friday (3 days prior) she was being let go (because the project manager was cool with me and was a big mouth). Neighter him nor the temp agency had the respect to call her and tell her prior to monday.

She called the agency and had it verified. They asked her "what are you doing there, you don't work there anymore". Mind you the agency was sued by IBM later on due to their business practices.

Open Ending Game will finally bridge that gap between the fluidness you get from pen and paper rpgs, and computer gaming. Why should a game stop at a linear path? Isn't part of the appeal for games is the continued use of the game?

Imagine if you had a character for a game you've used for the past five years. That character went from little wimpy avatar to highly intelligent, agile, financially successful, heroic and receive many accolades in game play. It's something you could be proud of in a sense. This is what is currently possible with tabletop rpgs.

Open Ending gaming is the next logical step in gaming evolution. I'm waiting for the day where I can play a game where in one period of time, I was a space trader, next period I'm the head of a corporate empire, and the next I sit upon the high council in the game dynmics. That would make it more meaningful than just hitting level 50 and moving onto the next game.
