You can't do that at all. No touch screen is going to know which fingers you are tapping it with and which you are skipping. Distance between taps is not a good measure because different people have different widths for fingers. Also, it would require discipline which would make the system painful to use. The best you are going to get for reliability is knowing how many fingers are tapping. That doesn't make up all that many combinations. The problem with gestures is that you need them to be fairly unique, or it becomes too easy for the computer to make mistakes in determining what you are trying to enter. When gestures are used in a game or as an adjunct to other input methods, some failure is permissible. When it's the primary (and only) interface, that would be a nightmare. You also would have to learn about 100 different gestures, which is equivalent of learning another written alphabet. That's not so easy for some people.
As for using all the pixels for input, that's utterly ridiculous. No touch screen is pixel-perfect in sensitivity, and even if there was one, no finger is going to be.
Only deluded idiots such as yourself might ever think that Apple doesn't want lockin and profit. Every company out there wants both, because A leads to B.
The difference between MS and Apple on this front is how they go about it. Apple does it by providing products people want to buy. Not a single iPhone customer was forced into it. Microsoft maintains lockin by strong-arming their OEM customers and through illegal sabotage of competitors.
You are beyond stupid. A newbie coder playing with his copy of the kernel source can do anything he damn well pleases and he doesn't have to present his work to anyone else at all. If he wants to give someone else his copy of the kernel, he has to present his changes in source form as well. But that won't get his code into the mainline tree. The whole point of the code managers which the article discusses is that there is a mechanism in place to keep out bad code. It doesn't matter who writes the bad code; there will be someone reviewing it. Even Linus has his code reviewed, even if there is absolutely nothing but social pressure to keep his own bad code to himself.
It might not be nice, but it's not illegal for AT&T to peek at traffic going over their network(s). The illegal bit comes with sharing it with the Government, as the Government is supposed to require a warrent for this type of thing. I do agree that it's morally reprehensible in any event.
Either it really is a Powerbook, in which case you wouldn't bother "correcting" anyone, or it's really a Macbook Pro. As the latter is more likely, you are just a fucking asshole that is so married to a fucking marketing term that your life has absolutely no meaning what so ever.
The Inuit were hunting whales long before anyone else populated this continent. If not for commercial whaling in various parts of the world, they would not be endangered now. So basically you want the Inuit to stop because you and your ancestors and everyone else fucked up.
Somehow, I don't think you really have a leg to stand on.
According to the comments I've read (no, I dont' RTFA), there was no punishment. She was already on probation, so probation as a punishment is nothing extra.
Once again, the Justice System has proven itself to be broken. If I were the victim, there would have been no living body to sentence. Let the corpse do probation, that's what she deserves.
"I'm against junk snail mail as well. Even though it doesn't cost me per se, it wastes my time, and unlike tv and web ads, I don't get anything in return for it."
Unless you never send anything via post, you most certainly do get something out of it, at least in the US. The US Post Office is pretty much subsidized by spam. You may think 41c for 1st class mail is a lot, but it would probably be triple that if it had to bear the costs of providing reliable mail service to every legitimate postal address in the country.
With snail-mail spam, the spammer pays for delivery. For email spam, everyone EXCEPT the spammer pays for delivery. Combine that with the tremendous volume (in comparison to snail-mail), and the problem is huge. You may not see it as an end-user of gmail or whatever, but you do pay for it.
If your life is the first to be lost, that in turn will save uncounted lives, as well as preserve liberty for the rest of us. Your kind of thought let Hitler implement his policies.
All that is required for evil to triumph is for good to do nothing.
"There is no reason a PC is more likely to be infected with "spyware, popups, and other garbage" than an Apple."
If you really believe this, you are an idiot beyond compare.
The simplest reason why a Mac would have less installed is because there is less to install. Less by several orders of magnitude. That might change in the far distant future, but today a Mac is almost impossible to infest just because there's nothing out there to infest it with.
That makes no sense at all. Assuming that, on a Universal time-scale, life elsewhere started around the same time as life here, there's no way the galaxy would be full. After all, we haven't managed a colony on our own moon yet, much less on other planets or planets in other solar systems. Why would you assume that other forms of life would be that much more advanaced than us?
You are an idiot. An Excel script that manipulates data from external sources isn't going to wait around for you to manually fill in a bunch of worksheet tabs. It's going to do the import on its own and massage the data according to the needs of the end-user. You wouldn't write a perl script that asks you to input thousands of lines of data from the terminal, would you? I'd hope you'd expect it to read from any files as necessary.
Yes, I know that STDIN can be one of the files, but that only works if the script only reads one file.
No. In your analogy, you'd be complaining to 3COM because you have a 1000/100/10 NIC, but you can't get better than 300k upstream bandwidth. The GP's analogy was correct. Yours makes no sense at all.
Lack of a death penalty is proof that such a place is not civilized and never will be.
Lack of a death penalty means that public safety is unimportant and that accepting no responsibility for one's actions is socially acceptable.

Metro-Detroit. I paid $5.75 to see Transformers two nights ago, at the Star John R.

You are NOT clever. You are a fucking retard.

Freedom of Speech never implied freedom from consequence. Until now that is. You are exactly what is wrong with American society today.
There is no "W" in the Hebrew alphabet. The 6th letter, transliterated, would be "V".

I use wireless at home for my laptop and the upstairs computer. The only time a signal is lost is when someone knocks out the plug for the AP.
My county is providing free wireless and I live in one of the test areas. I can get a signal in my basement.
I think you just plain suck.

By destroying others' property they prove they are worthy of hate. I hope the Cafe owners start using deadly force to protect their property.

What kind of idiot would spend that much on a Powerbook today?
The MBP line has always offered nVidia graphics. Anyway, my Macbook, running the cheap Intel video, plays WoW better than either of my other 2 PCs.
Perhaps you should upgrade. Macbooks (and Pros) beat any Powerbook ever made. Asshole.

If all that is true, you should have sued the DA for corruption. After blowing away his family for being related to such a shit in the first place.
