Youve been warned...
The RIAA knows listening to "illegally" downloaded mp3s only generates more record sales.
This part we know. And it seems logical. Listen to more music = buy more music. (Think about it, what if everyone stuck a radio in thier computers and listened to it everytime they used the computer.)
Lets say people listen to an average of 30 minutes of radio a day and buy 1 billion dollars worth of records. Now increace the time listening to "radio" to two hours a day. What do you think is going to happen? Now stay with me folks, how do they get people to listen to more music? Well, if they make it seem "badass" by complaining and making a scene about it all the time "John E. Rock" teenager and "Suzie B. Bop" college student will want to do it more. Think about it people, whose put napster and "mp3" in the news more than anyone? No, not your dog Fido, guess again. Right! The RIAA.
I dont own a powerpc, i will soon but for now all i have is i386. Can anyone drop any info on macosx for i386? The article dosent say anything.
Thanks
Chris Williams
but college isn't always the answer to being well rounded i'm very well rounded. I am cormfortable using many C indentation styles.I use GNU/Linux *and* NT.
...more rewarding then siting in a classroom. are you kidding, nothing is more rewarding that a nice nap.
This is a hot topic because it deals with two of the three most important things in most peoples lives, intelligence, money and...ya' know..., wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
I have had the oportunity to work in government at the MTA, and also in industry at Actiant. Now, I have spent a year RIT. I can honestly say that I have learned a great deal more in school that anywhere else. Is it worth the money? Probably not.
Living in a dorm, drinking beer and joining a frat all while supposedly "growing up" didn't make sense for me.
Hehe, you are aparently misinformed about college life. Please disregard what you see on tv and in movies.
As for the stren, cold, set-in-his-ways professor that is put across in the media simply isnt true, they would love for a student to challenge them.
College is great for people who can study and apply what they remember.
I think you just described every healthy human on this planet...
College to me adds biggotry to the soul.
Oooo... Big words from someone living in an evil empire.
Remember that VooDoo2 SLI (2 VooDoo2's on one chip with 24MB RAM)? It cost around $550 or $600 depending where you got it. People still yanked those up. And that was when video cards/games/extreme hardware wasnt as poplular as it is today. So this should be interesting indeed...
As for loosing money, that may be true. However, 3dfx is still number one in sales according to this article.
Being an student, I gots many texts. (If you live in New York City, theres a nice spot on Steinway and Ditmars that sells used texts for $1!) I am posting this question because I am disturbed by this story. My parents and I are going to write letters to the our state senator.
I hope you all do also. In the mean time, how can I copy the texts I own to a digital format and prepare them for mass, anonymous distribution?

I dont understand why the RIAA/MPAA and whoever are scared of new internet based technologies? Dont they know that the internet isnt going anywhere. Dont they know whats happens when you try to bully people. It just doesnt work. They have foolishly put themselves againt the internet and new technology. They cannot win, they shall be assimilated. The logic now is simple:
1.I listen to music
2.If I like it I give a little money to the artist and alot of money to the record company.
sure it has more power that most people need but its the geek factor. imagine being in math class and your friend is on his/her "pretty print" display and you turn and say "check out my 8-bit x server, im playing quake and running an http server.....FROM MY FUCKING CALCULATOR!!"
good for you, not everyone does.
although hp might tell you otherwise, this product is not for you.
Might as well carry my laptop and get better functionality, more mp3 storage, decent games and a useful screen for graphical work.
what about the person who only needs the functions of a graphing calculator and dosent want to pay for a full featured laptop?
Computers, taht can do everything are slowly shrinking and becoming more easily portable (longer battery life, lighter, better screens etc)
the problem here is agian cost. why doesnt everyone own an ultra-portable, ultra-power ful computing device?
I also find it annoying to carry around a multiplicity of items
Not evryone has alot of devices to carry. for example the only portable electronic device I own is a digital wristwatch, If I get a graphing calculator (not neccessarily the one in question)
that will be two things. I dont have an need for anything else so i dont buy it or post concerns when a new device has been announced.
I want one device that has everything I need on it. for some, this is all they need.
and palmtops are gaining faster processors and the ability to do decent maths, play mp3s etc. Now calculators are heading in the same direction but from a different tack. So eventually we end up with the same thing.
do you mean that calculators and pdas will one day be so powerful that they will replace laptops? I think laptop manufacturers have different plans than that:>. or perhaps you mean all these portable devices cell phones, pdas, calculators, webpads, laptops, etc, will one day find some sort of equilibrium and that there wiil be one device in everyones price range, with features customized for all, from the high school junior to the professional surveyer.?
but I've Mathematica, fortran amd others, not to mention all sorts of modelling and fem packages available on my laptop.
you have once again proven that you dont need a graphing calculator, you need a powerful laptop for math.
Hey, at least Microsoft gives us options.
You can now either:
1. Watch your new OS asphyxiate on its own bad code. or
2. Explain to the CFO why so much money has been spent computers recently.
See? They're not heartless.
Which option will you choose today?
Hehe, listen to what Microsoft can asy to its adversaries: "So you don't support the Freedom to Innovate(TM)?"
Use Gnutella and Freenet and Irc (But studies show that you might wind up buying more cds)
Buy form Indie Labels
Listen to the music you already downloaded for a while! If you were smart and not bandwith challenged then should have a nice little collection of your favorite music.
As I end I'd just like to point out that most music on Napster sucked, aolt. Same goes for record stores.
"lying around"??!!
This also means that Debian GNU/Linux STILL supports alpha, i386, arm, m68k, ppc, AND sparc.
