It is how I look at most games. I like a challenge, but I do not want to have to allocate project management, tons of research, and bringing my A game every time I play it. This is just a new easy mode, same as a cheat for God mode, or turning down difficulty a ton like a combat slider in Oblivion.
I want to be involved in the game story, get some enjoyment out of it, and not miss some part of the game because a different minority wants me to suffer through a game to get the best items or game play experience just because they had to.
I give Progress Quest as an example of the game will play itself, you will watch it, and you will be amused as an example of this. http://www.progressquest.com/ It has a following, so maybe there is some truth in the matter.
I am picturing an Air Force general getting pissed slamming his hand on a desk screaming, "How did my missile targeting system for F-22's and interactive guidance systems for drones to drop bombs go up by X amount of dollars?"
It is not quite out on console yet, but I do wonder how they will legally classify a taxed video game from a non-taxed one.
With everyone trying to create the newest and greatest thing to make money from, do people even follow or refer to RFC's for compliance?
Try to proxy and recreate most protocols or data sessions. Many will break on the other side of a proxy once it gets created according to RFC specifications. HTTP versus out of banding garbage over port 80 is one of the better examples of how developers never seem to follow RFC's anymore.
This would of course depend on the genre of the game. (Capt obvious comment) But in games like Sims where my character progression is the story, be it how banal or dramatic it may range. Simply playing the character is the story.
Where as an FPS, to take from Slayer, the final swing is not a drill its how many people I can kill. There's a story?
Yet even in games or other story containing media, the story and characters are perceived in different ways. Look at Harry potter and Snape. Snape is supposed to be the main character's antagonist, yet most people love Snape as a character more than any other, even though Harry hates him. That perception of character is not something you can force. Be it if a story is linear or force fed.
There is some advertising that I want. Like if I buy NHL 200# I do not mind seeing the various Koho, CCM, Bauer, ect. Its part of making it real. I want to see Tim Hortons ads on the sides fo the rink. I want to see ESPN covering the game. Its all in adding the "real" feel to the game and making it more fun.
But also should we be warned now of in game ads. Should there be a new rating that tells if a game has ads in it. There are some that want none of it and will never buy a game that has in game ads, though I am guessing only a few. How would a consumer be able to make choices on ads in game and would they be able to return it if they disapproved of in game ads?
Master chief looking like some of those European soccer uniforms, this Mortal Kombat fatality is brought to you by AT+T, Or a Sims censoring of the in bed action with an advirtisment for trojans is taking it to far.

I'm sure the eye gouging stations will be brought up in the next congress hearings. And I'm sure riders will be added to protect Haliburton stockholders and a random crushing of some freedom that is seen as obsolete.
Really I am looking at the positive side of this....
Remember how much of a craze Diablo 1+2 were and the clones kept coming out. Some sucked yes but it showed an interest into what the gamer wanted. Rather than forcing what the developer thought the game wanted.
If the industry is in such a funk and needs to compete why not move to the direction that 6 million someodd gamers have made their choice. I can't really see any validity of their game is better than mine its not fair. well '/cry prog newb learn2code'
But if WoW is that much of an attention magnet why have other companies tried not to follow suit and create well made games that adhere to the same principal. Esay to pick up and forgiving gameplay, reward system, vast amounts of small tasks to complete, and relatively low cost. Over 6 months spending 15 a month is alot less than buying 6 new games a month, hell it still trumps some of my one nighters at the bars.
Even in the midst of my WoW obsession I have still purchased a DS, Galactic Civilizations 2 and a couple other worthwhile games. Not just gameplay but price comes into mind too. I'm sorry but 50/60 dollars on a PC game that does not offer the features I expect just isn't going to cut it. Especially when if someone can only offer that they are more hardcore...when I play gmaes to "relax" not learn another skill on another computer application =P

I'm pretty excited about RTS for small battles. If ship combat gets to be huge armadas fighting each other, the battle could become and epileptic RTS click fest rather than being able to plan and possibly enjoy a great combat simulation.
Besides perhaps with good enough spies on my side I won't have to worry about RTS battles if all the opposing ships mysteriously explode when they engage weapons. Then there is that diplomacy thing everyone seems to keep blabbering on about.

Can this statement from mr vice president be used as a statement of guilt stating that systems are not C2 compliant? Does this mean another slap on the wrist for MS or will some meaningful result actually come out of this.
Also will other businesses be able to press for some sort of compensation or can we all be expected to buy a new version of "windows secure" in the future? This, as they pare down their support in security just because Microsoft has admitted they cannot write secure code for an operational product.
So what happens if a P2P client makes it looks like CNN, Yahoo, and Amazon just pulled dowm um-teen however-many songs. Will the RIAA have to pay the supposed bilions of dollars in lost revenue from bringing other people's sites down in mistaken retaliation.
And what if people start making P-2-P DDOS decoys, will network backbone providers start charging the RIAA and "copyright protectors" for all the traffic that traverse their lines?
Also could this be the start of a network blacklist disabling networks that would engage in these types of actions.
I told palm that setting up the palm tore up my serial port about a year ago and they told me I was full of it. Maternal fornicating fatherless children. So where can we make a formal complaints on this? We just need a Johhny Cochran type of line. "If palm disrupts the boot, file a lawsuit"
Anyway, I connected the Palm cradle up to one of the systems I had. (It was a palm V to a 200 MMX and had being the operative word.) It first blew out the serial port on the PC. I was unable to map/identify any COM ports to where I couldn't make use of mouse or modem. Mainly because I couldn't assign the COM port. But after that other controlers on the motherboard near that area started to fail days afterwards. Such as the hard drive and floppy controllers.
Anyone else run into an issue with this. It kind of pisses me off that they will probably just keep denying this and get away with it. Damn. Screwed by someone's lust for benjamin again. Look I'm so upset my grammer is just horrible.
Some computer stores don't even know their own hardware much less an operating system. I had trouble getting a computer built with the bare bones hardware minus the OS, for an an OpenBSD machine I was building. I was hounded by the store that they would not sell it without an operating system (basically the same reasons MS gave at their page). So later that afternoon I brought them OpenBSD disk and told them to put it on themselves if they felt compelled to install an OS, including my specifications. I got a call the next day asking to pick up my uninstalled machine and the BSD CD I left them with. Pity, I was looking forward to a little more free time.;P
If they just wait 2 more days (per the sumary) it can be a PI day vulnerability at 314 days.
Then everyone would take security seriously protecting their pi. I mean even the Amish have Pie safes.
