Russia seems to pride itself on mafia style shows of force. Russian/Soviet actions have always seemed this way. Their leaders have always had that look too -- of course, that could just be the vodka.
Um.. Okay. You must be of the same ilk as those that quote single lines of the Bible and point to it as a book about killing people.
Here's the line from the article you linked to: "Bush believes he was called by God to lead the nation at this time, says Commerce Secretary Don Evans, a close friend who talks with Bush every day."
Or maybe you're a liberal who can turn the comment of "the sun is bright" into "Bush talks to God and he told him to eat peanut butter."
I, on the other hand, read that single line to mean that Bush believes that he was called by God to lead this nation now because there are some in this country who would not have the nerve to make the hard decisions required fighting an enemy such as al-qaeda. That's not to say that I agree with all his decisions, but he believes that. No where in that comment does it say that God wanted him to invade Iraq, but I guess in your imaginary world, anything can mean anything.
Actually, don't they already have a conventional version of the C-130 that flies around in circles well away from its target, which can systematically and extremely accurately pick of its target (I'm not a military person, so I do not know the plane, I just know I've seen some of the videos of it over the past several years)? If they can do that with something that has to consider a bullet flying through the air, I do not see why it would be very difficult for a laser which does not have to worry about resistance. It seems like that would almost be a point-and-click-kill type of system.
Heck, if they have laser targeting systems that can even just occasionally knock a missile out of the sky with another missile, a stationary target on the ground targeted by a slow moving aircraft seems trivial. Developing the laser should really be the hard part of this equation.

When it comes to VIDEO GAMES, why is rumor not a story? I mean it is VIDEO GAMES we're talking about, not world events. I would argue that in light of the way video game manufacturers have decided to use "journalists" for their on PR purposes (as discussed by the Games for Windows podcast), then they have forced the "journalists" to turn more to rumor as a means of keeping their readership interested in anything video game related. Heck, if it's not some official PR posting that every site and their mother gets, when is it not rumor?
Good for Kutaku for doing what their readership would want them to do -- get them information before the Sony PR machine wants them to have it.
How many of the leading countries have broadband access heavily subsidized by their governments? In the US it's pretty much left up to private companies, and as long as the companies are spending 75% of the effort trying to figure out how to maximize their profits, they aren't going to roll out broadband to make sure the US shows up #1 in some ranking of countries.
If the US government somehow got involved, one of two things would happen: we'd either rush toward the top of the list (if the effort was sincere) or we'd all be connecting with 2400 baud modems (if they handled it like most government activities).
It sure as heck hasn't been improvements in Excel. Jeez, once Quattro Pro lost out, MS stopped having to copy their innovations, and development on improving the spreadsheet (as a spreadsheet) stopped. There was so much room for improvement in terms of tools to analyze data, but nothing has happened in 10 years.
The Sun is burning hotter. It heats up the Earth's atmosphere (and Mars') and oceans, and is melting the polar ice caps. It has nothing to do with human activity. There. Disproved.
I read all these comments on slashdot and wonder what amazing discussions all the intellectuals (both here and around the world) would have had during the Cold War. I'm sure they could have had it all figured out in the early 60's -- and solved by 1970.

putting one more nail in the coffin of Intelligent Design.
How does figuring something out put a nail in the coffin of Intelligent Design? If figuring it out is all it takes, didn't that happen the first time man figured anything out?
I assume then, that your life and schedule will allow you to spend hours on end playing the game online. I on the other hand do not have hours to spend waiting for invitations to be accepted, firing off more invitations when the first group had a some kind of freak who made the game unplayable or when half the group dropped, and then having to spend the time finishing the instanced, unsavable quest.
ON THE OTHER HAND. In Guild Wars, me and one, or maybe two friends, can pull in 3-4 NPC characters and have an enjoyable time without having to spend all the effort looking for 3-4 non-idiot real people to play with. I can do this once or twice a MONTH, and not worry about paying $15/month to do so.
Not solo play, but not forcing me into huge groups that I don't want to be in either, and not forcing me to play 50 hours to justify the expense. See the difference?
The game seems to me to be Guild Wars with DnD rules. The meat of the game play is in an instanced dungeon with you and your party members. They should have taken the Guild Wars approach to henchmen and given you the option of several styles of NPC party members. I might consider doing it that way. I'm in the same boat as the original author: I don't group with strangers and my friends are on rarely (if at all).
Plus, I'm not paying monthly to play a game 2-4 hours per week (if that much). Either use Guild Wars payment approach or have some kind of tiered payment for the casual gamer such as myself. I'm not subsidizing server and bandwidth costs for all the folks with 80 hours/week available to play.
Looking at the close-up image at Amazon.com, it would appear there's nothing new on the stick. Pretty much a rehash of older songs in either a different format or live. If there had been a new album on there, I'd probably have purchased it.
I'll bite. I'll NEVER use an email program that uses the old folder paradigm again (unless Gmail goes under with no alternatives). After becoming proficient with the label system of Gmail (and the message threader), it is very difficult to use any old style email program now. Outlook tries to thread messages, but for some strange reason, it leaves out MY responses from the thread.
My Yahoo Mail account looks almost exactly the same as it has for the past 4-5 years: screen filled with 40% adds and 60% email interface. I've clicked on every link on the page, and I'm not able to find any information about "upgrading" to the new Beta. Give me the nice, clean look of Gmail ANY day.
I tried the freebee last month, and had several common sites I visit not open correctly (sites that worked fine in IE and Firefox). It was nice otherwise, but just not enough there to motivate me to switch from what I use now.
I was thinking they could charge a higher hourly fee up until the montly fee point (or maybe $5 more). If you don't reach that point, you pay more per minute than a monthly fee person. If you do reach it, you might consider switching over to a $5 less monthly fee.
Any chance we'll see subscription fees that work more for the casual player? Hourly fees instead of monthly fees? I would love to try the game out, but rarely get to play more than an hour or two a week. It is just hard to justify $15/month with that amount of play.

I wonder if this will work for Vista when/if it ever comes out?
I want to hear reports of performance! How well does Oblivion run on the MAC?!?
I think this is a great idea. I'd use it to backup my family pictures and video. Actual documents with personal information included? Nope.

Talk about stupid cause-effect relationships....

What's really sad is that you don't realize that it's the DEMOCRATIC party that's in the Lawyers back pocket.
I don't even play WoW or Galaxies, and I know exactly how Galaxies does it -- eliminate the monthly fee. I'd play then. Otherwise, no way in hell.

Same here. Something about an IRQ when searching for a driver. Two times in a row.

Although they will likely cave in eventually, it would be fun to see Apple resist, and somehow pull out a victory in the end.

He must have really been pissed at the people in Indonesia then. I wonder what they did to incur the wrath 10x greater than the Gulf Coast?
