I use Windows because it IS easier to use than MacOS. Yeh - it's true. Everytime I sit down on a mac, I have to use the mouse. Believe it or not, that's no good! I am one who - aside from browsing and graphics work - only uses the keyboard. Why? Because it is almost always faster and simpler. As a "computer nerd" I find this is easier to use.
It is sad, but thus far, I have yet to find a WM or OS/GUI combo that lets me work as easily with only a keyboard as Windows.
Having recently switched from 98 to 2000, I can now finally say I am VERY happy with my OS.
Believe it or not, I bet there are a bunch of people out there just like me who find that Windows is actually right for them. (And I'm not talking about gamers or people that stick to windows cause of the apps - I am talking about people that actually prefer the way Windows UI works.)
Anyhow, that's just me.

btw, I read this entire article w/o wondering "what ass wrote this" and THEN I noticed it was John Katz. I would consider that a great success for Mr. Katz...
frankly, who would want more than 2 devices on a single channel? It would only cause miserable slow down. If you need more than four devices, get an IDE card. The promise 100 is sweet - and an amazingly cheap upgrade (~$30) that will boost system performance significantly.
the problem I have with this argument is that both of your sisters' children will still have the old system to play the old games on. That is:
sister one's kids get a ps2 and play ps1 games on it. they also have the chance to buy new ps2 games. meanwhile the ps1 sits around collecting dust.
sister two's kids get a ps2 as well. if they want to play their old games, they pull out the n64. meanwhile, they now have the chance to get lots of old ps1 games and have the option to get new ps2 games.
either way, $300 will be spent on a ps2, but the second family now has a wider selection of games. (any n64 games they had + all the ps1/ps2 games they can buy).
actually, no. Remember the episode when Lisa is to get married? Even then, when Maggie must be in her late teens, he still doesn't talk. (and yes, they mayke a point of showing that)
I wonder...is there a way (perhaps via cygwin) too get a lot of those cool tools like grep available on windows (2k)? I would be extremely happy to be able to telnet into my machine and grep things...
(then again...I already have accounts to multiple *nix machines...why would I need it)
while nearly everything there is true, I think on the whole it was quite good indeed. It was not nearly as bad as I was expecting. I think Shatner did the part brilliantly. I just wish the commentators were a bit less cheesy on the outfits, etc.
(a marketing rep lent Techhouse at Brown University an XBox so I got a chance on the system)
Halo is basically a pc game on a console, but the controls were quite good, despite it being a FPS.
The 1 player mode was short. I am not sure how many hours it took, but it was easily completed in a day.
Multiplay is cool. Its kinda fun to jump into a jeep and roll over your opponent, or even better, hitting his jeep just before he manages to get in, making his jeep roll him over (which counts as a suicide).
Anyhow, the graphics were damned nice - which is a good sign for microsoft - that a first gen game looked so good. Maybe most impressive is how smooth the game ran with so many explotions, and moving characfters, and such. Of course, our 65" HDTV helped the experience a bit.
I really wish I could get some nice pc net action on the game, though. I suppose the xbox wouldn't sell if halo came out for the pc. Oh well.

the ie thing is no longer the case. You go to the dockbar, click on the arrow near the IE icon, and you get a list of open windows in that app. just pick the one you want. OS X is rather nice.
7) The Speech by Cochran was LAME! Maybe, but it finally gave them a chance to fix that 35-year-old split-infinitive "to boldly go". That, and the seat belt line, were to two funniest things in the show.
pardon?!? chance to fix?!? When I heard it I went nuts. Firstly, according to internation standards of english, split infinitives are now legal. (therefore, they never had a reason to change it) secondly, why mess with one of the most famous lines from TV?
I was highly disappointed when I first recognized what he was saying, only for him to end with "to go boldly where no man has gone before."
Why I Don't Use a Mac,
(AKA Why I Choose Windows)

Ready for this one?

if you wanna correct someone, make sure you are right:
the word 'which' should come after a comma. rob's use of 'that' is actually correct.
oh my god that thing is beautious. almost makes me think apple had something to do with the design =)
no doubt in my mind, it puts all the consoles out there to shame.
would someone mind copying the list of contributions he has recently made here? (the article is nicely /.ed)
thanks!

or am I missing something?

mmmm....tux racer...on 65" TV =)

still, I think this is a relavent question.
well, the assumption is that they had to do it to figure it out, so they must have infringed in the first place.
that page still links to the same file

(no help while
would someone mind mirroring the exe? (assuming there is nothing against doing this in any applicable lisense)
I wanna see if it works with video overlays. (mm...watching tv and bein able to see through it)
yes, but a ton is 2000 lbs, which makes his comment relavent and yours not.

haha....brilliant!
new idea for taco bell:
customized restaraunt music. Never do you have to listen to the same radio station as the person never to you while you scarf down those tacos.
Brave New World, anyone?
well...as far as the "family on the wall" idea goes.

Not many when they can buy an Agenda for $250 from ThinkGeek. Then again, the Agenda doesn't have color nor the expandability...but it does run X.
grrr...when I read the article name I thought it said WipEout contest, and I got all excited. mmm...WipEout...
Damned god I decided to read /. before I went to the PO to pick mine up (was delivered an hour ago). Things could have gotten ugly!
(I hope it's everything I expect)

hmmm...user 3872...nah...must be a faker =P
Hmm..then it seems their plan will work. It's already been shown that mp3 trading has increased sales....

Perhaps my only issue with the entire episode.
