You don't randomly guess. You get a decent typing tutor program and learn to type the proper way. If you take the time to go through all the exercises, you'll find yourself getting faster and faster. After a while, you won't have to look. You'll just know where the keys are by memory.

It does take a bit of dedication, though.

I had to quit reading 2600 when, shortly after the DeCSS trial, Emmanual started abstracting himself out of all the stories, replacing all the "I"s with "we"s. He also quit signing his name to them.

Before, he wrote nearly all the stories. After that, it was all, "We here at 2600...". Yeah right. Maybe it's more professional, but to me, it took away all the personality and passion from the writing.

I've found the exact opposite to be true. If you switch the physical keys around while you're learning Dvorak, you'll just be tempted to look down at the keys to see where they are. If you look at the keys when you're learning, you're not memorizing their locations, and that's the only way to really learn well.

I agree about the excessive calories and sugar being bad, but it's simply not true that caffeinated beverages dehydrate you.

    From snopes.com

the idea that one must specifically drink water because the diuretic effects of caffeinated drinks such as coffee, tea, and soda actually produce a net loss of fluid appears to be erroneous. The average person retains about half to two-thirds the amount of fluid taken in by consuming these types of beverages, and those who regularly consume caffeinated drinks retain even more

Advice is a form of nostalgia. Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Anyway, if you're smart, you've learned from your mistakes. Taking those mistakes away would also take away the critical lessons you've learned, and you'd just end up making a similar mistake later on.

And even if you're talking to a modern-day 12 year old, as opposed to your past self, most kids will only learn the important lessons by making their own mistakes. Some things you've just got to experience in order to fully understand.
