If there was "free market" we would not need net neutrality. There would be competition if I don't like one ISP's policies I have 10 other low latency, high bandwidth, reliable, with unrestricted services to choice to chose from. In truth most of the country is lucky if they have one choice that is not limited in one of those requirements. I had to load balance the two main ISP in my area to get something close to being an internet connection. What I can get has barely changed in 15 years. So 20 years without net neutrality has gotten us nowhere.
10 years ago 1 out of 5 developers worked on things that talked to each other, via IP we just didn't have a buzz word for it. Most new buildings in the last 5 years the network segment for the "things" is larger then the network segment for people.
It is good to see an article for once use the correct terms. UHD is a consumer format. When you ask for 4k don't be shocked when price has an extra 0 added to it. UHD screen $2000, 4k screen if you are lucky $20,000.
What would a new analog technology be? Current digital recording has far greater resolution the the analog signals you are recording. They only stopped developing analog recorders about 25 years ago. Studer sold their last A827.
Some people people just love the distortions that vinyl produces. Low resolution, poor phase linearity, low frequency summed to mono, large amount of equalization for pre-emphasis and post-emphasis (40dB). Multi-band compression. High level of crosstalk between channels. It is close to a miracle the format works at all. It takes huge amounts of effort to get a respectable master cut. In the peak of vinyl production during the early 80's the efforts engineers put into getting good sounding vinyl was insane. Nobody is doing it to that level anymore.
I can tell you there has never been a vinyl master cut that sounds like the the original recording. Vinyl is a lossy, compressed, distorted format that some people like the sound of. I have not had a vinyl master cut in years but they never came even close to the original. Analog tape never reproduced what you put into either.
Have your touchscreen device in your pocket, start a song, find a song, go back in a song, forward in a song, change the volume, skip a song, cue, pause all without looking at it. Even with uncompressed audio it holds hundreds of songs.
I though the real race was to be the first company get their phone back up to the size of the analog Motorola bricks with a bonus for a 12" whip antenna.
I'm telling the him places that will provide the service that meets his requirements. They transfer between many types of mediums, film to video, video to film, analog to digital, one video format to another.
Look for a Telecine service house they do all the professional film transfer work. The rates I'm seeing is about $150 to $200 an hour plus drives. 10 bit uncompressed SD is around 2 gig a minute. I have to think it is 4:2:2 since that is what most listed for HD. If it something you are going to edit you might want a ProRes copy as well which is about a 4 to 1 compression to make your workflow and drives easier to handle. You can also do color correction and other post work if that is needed.
What do think helps pay to keep the university running. The tuition does not cover the full costs of an education there. If they didn't have the endowment tuition would about 20K higher then it is now. How do you think scholarships are paid for? endowments.
I'd pay more for a better story lines. High resolution versions of a bad movie is still a bad movie. Would kill it James Cameron to spend $50k on a screenplay?
I was expecting something large enough to print a seat, fender, or wing. My company has a carbon fiber fab division, this could be interesting, but we would need a print volume of at least 4' x 4'x 3'
Read the last sentence. One of the biggest races there is. Le Mans has always been experimental. Everyone though Audi was crazy with the diesel engine race car till they could not beat them for years.
I would love to see Tesla try it in one of the lower classes if they can swap the batteries fast enough.
We selected the current iPad. My grandfather has never used any computer in his life, at best he has used a typewriter a few times. In this case is was more for video conferencing (FaceTime) so, the screen, camera and microphones were high on the list of importance. His eyesight is really good since he had cataract surgery about 6 years ago, he still reads constantly. Ease of use and robustness was the most important since I live 1400 miles away and none of the nearby relatives have any technical skills. The hard part was - the supervised care home he lives in does not have WiFi so we had to use a cellular hotspot. I went this route instead of buying a tablet with built-in cellular because, I could set up and test the tablet before I went out and just had purchase a hotspot from the company the had the best service at his location. I stripped the interface/ apps down to 4 buttons, FaceTime, ibooks, freebooks app, messages, and then a folder for settings and everything else I could not turn off, restrict or remove. Being that he is a WWII vet and then worked in a factory for decades, he is very deaf. In testing it with my brother I was using AKG K240 headphones in hope with hearing aid and the headphones he might be able to hear, I did not want to use earbuds since most old people get wax build up problems from the hearing aids pushing the wax back into their ears, I did not want to make that problem worse. The AKG K240 headphones are an open air design that allows sound to both leave the headphones and the wearer to hear sounds outside the headphones. When the volume was very loud the bleed from the headphones started to cause problems with the echo canceling in FaceTime. The audio would get choppy as the echo canceling had more volume then it could deal with. I picked up some AKG K271 headphones which are a sealed design, and that solved the echo canceling issue. I found it strange to not be able to hear myself when talking, I figured he is likely used to that. As it turned out he has to have it at full volume but he can hear better over it then if you in the same room with him. He is past the gain before feedback levels the current hear aids can deliver, I don't see that improving much more anyway. Photo stream was an added bonus, I never used it before or cared about but my brother started sending my grandfather's iPad photos, so we invited all the relatives to his stream. Now all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren can send him photos and movies that they make. The contrast, icon sizes, clean look and that every household in the family had a least one iDevice drove the iPad selection. Only a few households had Android devices. It is very easy to tell someone is trying to contact you on iOS. I still struggle with at a glance knowing who has contacted me and in what way on my Android.
I have never had any problems charging any apple product with a non apple charger or charging other products with an apple charger. Then again I don't buy $2 POS chargers. There might be a good reason the iPhone will not accept power from it. Maybe you want to get out a meter and a scope and look at that charger closer before you have a car fire.
I don't have solar and the cost of transmission listed on my APS bill is around 4 dollars a month along with about 10 other charges they hit you with before they even get to the power usage. So 4.95 charge the use the grid looks like now the solar customers will be subsiding the non solar customers. APS was asking for 50-100 dollars a month grid fee to solar customers which is just insane. That is higher then my winter power bill. Given a choice most of the people in the state would not use APS for power. Next we need to tax all those bike riders that we are subsidizing with gas taxes, they are even demanding bike lanes. The water department needs to add a few fees for all those low flow shower heads and toilets that people keep installing.
Maybe they should focus on having great products first. I have yet to find an ISP that is even close to great.

Well after adding the cost of my labor I ended up with a raspberry pi.
What does the EPA have to do with lack of rainfall?

That and isn't circumventing DMR illegal. Or since REAL is/was a company it ok.
Did they use Sony's own software on them. If the hackers are caught will they fine them $7.50

Did this installation include a carport or something? That is about 18k higher then the worst case I would expect.
I have no use for employees that can't pass 5th grade science.
