I think I speak for all of us when I say, woohoo! OK, the fact that a large portion of the Earth will be rendered uninhabitable is not so cool, but the important thing is that we get mechas not too long afterwards. I'm sure glad we don't live in the BattleTech universe -- can you imagine having to wait like 500 years to get your hands on a giant killer robot?

I'm only 18, and it's a very old story: it's hard to get job experience without already having experience. OK, not to bash the guys working on this project, since they're probably 1337er than I shall ever be. However, it's worth mentioning that to this point nobody has managed to even get a SNES emulator that runs at full speed for the Dreamcast. This didn't stop me from playing FFVI as it was meant to be played -- on the TV screen -- but for more real-time stuff, such as Super Metroid, the DC does fairly poorly. I imagine that these problems will be fixed with time...but an N64 emulator is a loooong way off on the DC.

You know, I think there are a lot of people like me who really loathe both sides in this argument. On the one hand, the RIAA is Pure Evil (TM); whether screwing the artists and monopolizing distribution, or cramming lawsuits up whatever hole will fit them, they've done whatever they could to make sure that nobody is his or her right mind could conceivably support them. But on the other hand, there are all these people who feel that they have some God-given right to take other people's product for free. Insofar as it works to the good of society as a whole, intellectual property is a valid concept which, having been given legal protection, deserves to be respected. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I wish everyone would shut the hell up and maybe try to get constructive here.

No, that's the thing. The portion of Salon's readership that gets these ads is not made up of "customers," those being the people that actually subscribe to the premium service. What they are are people who load up on free news and commentary on Salon and never pay a dime. (I'm not bashing these people, I'm one of them.) 23. Re:Perfect Dark is as expensive as PC games on XBox Delayed · · Score: 1

OK, now we're way off-topic, but your price totalling for PD seems a bit extreme. As I understand it (I don't have the game, my friends do), the neat little feature where you could create your own face textures was left out in the N64 game, because they couldn't implement it properly, and because of Columbine. I've been through the options menu a few times on my own, and I certainly have no idea how to activate it. If I'm right, that should be $150 off the total. But set that aside; how much do you have to spend to "enjoy fully" Quake 3 Arena? $650 ($800 after monitor) in hardware doesn't go oh-so-far in terms of games. And by your accounting system, if I wanted to play with an actual friend, it seems fair to say that I would have to note the purchase of multiple copies of the game. And that's assuming you don't "need" any fancy controllers to "enjoy it fully."

By the way, I apologize for the tone of my previous post. You had said something similar in response to another story about the XBox, and you never replied when I challenged your statement that time. :-)

  24. Re:TMs lead to alternative names for same game on XBox Delayed · · Score: 1

When you say "it has been said," what you mean to say is "I have said, over and over and over." You bring up this same nonsense every time this topic comes up. Games are not interchangeable. Non-Miyamoto Zelda is not Zelda, because the personal touch that the master gives it is the very essence of the game. Halo and GoldenEye, aside from some superficial similarities (ooh, look, they have guns!) are not, by any means, the same game.
Let us be clear: when a poster says, "It doesn't have Zelda, Metroid, Perfect Dark, etc.," he or she is not talking about trademarks. It is a matter of preference in design teams and fundamental vision behind the projects.
But what do you know about games? How can anyone who knows what he's talking about associate a serious simulation like Bushido Blade with Soul Caliber?
