Hehe...I read your post and thought of the first "Naked Gun" movie:
Leslie Neilson: "Protecting the, uh, safety of the Queen is a task gladly accepted by Police Squad. For no matter how silly the idea of having a Queen may be to us, as Americans we must be kind, considerate hosts."

I disagree. Taxes!=donation...they are a requirement in most countries. Donations are not and thus the previous poster has a valid point.
If you don't know/like where your money is going to in a charity case, you can simply choose not to donate. In this case, it would make sense for them to disclose the money intended targets (aside from hardware).
Don't really know if that was a troll or not, but eh..Why not.
In my past two companies, I have work on several R&D projects that exclusively use Windows. When it comes down to money, speed, and effeciency, we are indifferent to what Microsoft says for us to upgrade etc. We use Windows to get the job done, period. I am actually the only Open Source advocate, but I only advocate when I can prove that an Open Source project is faster/more effecient than our current proprietary one. I have worked with several other teams within other companies that have the same ideology.
hehe...Now a Fisher Price DNA combining kit, THAT would be something cool.
"Dad, check this out! I extracted some blood from a mosquito encased in amber and added it to some frog eggs that I found...Hey, they hatched!!! Where did my little baby go?"
Hahah...Yeah, you thought that jobs outsourcing from the US was bad. Wait till Canada becomes the tech capital of the world, when most US nerds move across the border.
That was a great example, one that I would like to see be repeated through quotes from IBM and other people who can make such statements to the media.
I think the overall problem is that most non-technical people are intimidated with the GPL (fear of the unknown). They believe the FUD that is dished out by MS and SCO because it is easier to digest than actually reading it for themselves. I think if Linus or someone of influence else would simply sit down with a reporter and say: "Listen, this is why Open Source is a better option....". Dumb it down to the average reading level of the population.
A journalist friend of mine once said that most newspapers are written at the 7th or 8th grade level (it was something ridiculous like that).
I think the next "killer app" will be a linux box that does this AND has the ability to sync up your entire house's phone system. Right now, with Vonage, I do not believe there is a way to do it...you can only have the phone coming out of the router. It would be really nifty if someone could hook up a router box with a "Modem"-like card that just plugs into your box and a phone jack. That phone jack would then feed the rest of the house.
Most IM programs have the ability to log chats to a specific directory. I believe Trillian does it by default for each user you IM. I have found myself going back to those logs frequently when discussing coding projects.
If you need to maintain a backup, burn the old logs to a cd or just log the messages to a backed up file server.
PostNuke, but found it cumbersome and tough to administer. Check out "GeekLog" (Link). I have found it pretty secure, easy to manage and easy to write new code for. It only took me about 10 minutes to get it up and running on a Windows platform (for testing...). One key feature I like, is that the developers always seem to be around to answer questions about features on their discussion boards.
Ummmm, how about no?
They do not limit your freedom, as you don't have a right to have a laptop in your frickin vehicle while driving to begin with.
Also, while I obviously cannot speak for you, I have noticed that Speed Limits do not seem to apply to ANY people on motorcycles anyway.
Just my own observation, while living in the DC area, I have yet to see ANY motorcycle obey any speed limit wherever I have been driving.
I'm expected to putter through traffic at the same speed as a soccer mom...
Right....Who are you kidding?

"Its dead sexy."
Great, now everytime I run Winamp, I'm going to think about fat bastard! "I'm Soooo Sexxxxxxxxy". Thanks for the mental vision!

What if a non-experienced user needs to run your scripts? People are use to GUIs for performing tasks, not the command line.
Cmdr Taco for Xmas...
Merry Christmas!
Finally a way to get back at all of those stupid SUV driver!
Stuck in bumper to bumper traffic...SUV cuts you off.
Broadcast message to billboard: "Man in Silver SUV with license plate 12345 has no pants on, is currently drinking, and likes to beat small puppies".

ROARRRRRR
Yurp, even named a city in its honor.
Damn straight! We're tired of the traffic and overcrowding! The state finally snapped.

I'm not so certain that is correct. Isn't the Washington Sniper being tried in MD, DC and VA?
So after a DOS attack, Slashdot posts an article about the attack, thereby starting another attack.
"120MB IDE HD"
Not a big TV watcher, even with the TIVO, are we?
Oh yeah? I got the gift of Slashdot, read your post, and am now having sex with your wife!

It probably was in the Mel Brooks version of the movie:
"I bring thee, the 15..."
CRASH
"...the 10 commandments!"
Kinda like this ?

Yes, but your racoon ears and tail scared me as a child.
