  1. Can someone explain on AOL Stealing Domain Names? · · Score: 2

how this can happen? My friend registered a domain name a couple of years ago in his name, but used my address. I wanted to change all the information to my name but could not (Network Solutions is NOT very friendly, even though the hosting company offered to verify that I paid the bills for the registered name). Doesn't Network Solutions have some kind of protective service, that does not let others change the site's address? I remember that I had to email all this information to them, and a week later they emailed me back to confirm that it was indeed me...yadayaada.

If this proves to be true, and you have proof that you have actually registered the site, why not try to get ICANN to change the ruling?

  8. Re:Cheaper? on Plastic Electronics Driving An LCD Monitor · · Score: 2

True, but what I guess what I was getting at was that we need plastic for everyday items such as bottles, parts, etc..so the industry will create it. Instead of throwing all of that out into landfills, we could put it back to good use again. I would imagine that if (if being the key word here) this would be a seamless cycle, the dependence on oil would decrease as we could just reuse all the plastics. Consider the lifecycle of the products...milk jugs are used within a month and then thrown out again. Tv's, granted would take longer to reach the end of their lives, but eventually they would return to the manufacturors.
Alternatives (as the poster below my first message mentioned) such as creating plastics from other sources could also be used.

This is an absolutely RIDICULOUS idea! I think M$ is just shooting themselves and the ENTIRE e-book industry in the foot. First of all, I personally find it difficult to read a full book online as it is (Stephen King's "The Plant"), but paying MORE than a paperback is silly! This is just going to turn more people off and eventually label ebooks as just "another one of those Internet fads". Most non-expert users who are not aware of this fact are going to be extremely annoyed when their book that they payed MORE for than the paperback, suddenly disappears. IMHO, go to a bookstore pick up a paperback. Its portable, flexible, and ways less than 10 pounds (maybe not the "Complete Works of Shakespeare").

I am NOT saying that these conditions are present today in these same terms. I am merely pointing out that these ideals of greed and power are constantly inherent within our society. You are right...it does take a "nudge" to get them away, but refusing to acknowledge their existence today IS the same as ignorance. Coverups and news spinmaking is still very much alive and well. My friend, people *are* ignorant. Look at race relations in the US. Look at how long it has taken African-Americans to break free of old constraints and stagnant beliefs continually festered by corporations who yielded tons of money at their slave expense. All these beliefs STILL fester in modern society and ANY US History teacher will decry account after account, of why corporations lobbyied their state representatives to lawfully deny reading and education for the masses would rise up and destabalize the state.
