"The more specialized a species becomes, the more it needs a tightly defined environment in which to exist. If anything happens to change its environment...and it will...it can have catastrophic consequences."
GM crops create MORE diverse plant that survive is more adverse, varied conditions. Now, if people only plant one kind of plant, that is monoculture. Like they had in the potato famine. Of course, that was before GM crops.. You can't blame monocultures on GM crops.
A google news has already been accused of being biased (including far left wing news sites, but not include far right wing news sites). If they get wrapped up in contraversial social issues, they are bound to loose some of their audience and stock holders. I would much rather have a company that was neutral on most issues.
You might wanna try to get more exposure on webcomics.com. We have a lot of traffic and are just looking for more good comics to feature, which pumps up traffic like 10 times on the featured day. We also have a banner exchange program just for comics, you can help promote other comics, while they help you.
I have the InVoca voice activated remote http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000 059S86/104-2019136-6738345?v=glance
( I got mine for $30 new)
It can control the TV, cable, tivo, dvd, etc.
I don't think that it "changed the way I watch tv"... It's pretty much a pain if you listen to the TV loud, because it messes up the commends.
The nice thing was that it was totally hands free. You didn't have to press any buttons (but could if you wanted to).. it listened for control words. I could also do long macros like turning on TV & DVD player and pressing play with one command. I can't say that I use it anymore. It's a lot easier to just pick up a regular remote and press a button.
Hmm, this http://img58.exs.cx/img58/3362/screen12ee.jpg
is the only capture I could find. It's hardly 1/4 of the screen that some people describe, and it's just like the other thumbs up buttons that have appeared in other ads.
I assume there is some other info ad that pops up, this is hardly troublesome.
calling them threatening to cancel my subscription.
Unfortunately, I think it'll take a lot of people/actually/ cancelling their subscriptions before they get the hint. Otherwise, they just see a lot of publicity, but think that users will stay w/ tivo no matter what.
Man, you can't think of many players. There are tons with out displays, and for those of us who just put on shuffle and listen, it's actaully a feature for me.
The shuffle does come with a free extra, a lanyard.. . How many mp3 players come with one of those?
If you're running tables that big and don't reading the MySQL manual or don't know how to google "myisam file size limit", you have bigger problems.
If the OS supports bigger files, you can increase the 4Gb limit with a SQL alter table. Just increase the maximum number of rows.
I'm not an expert on OS's and file sizes.. but if your needing greater than 2Gb files, with any database, I would think that your OS would need to support it.
Oh, sorry to correct myself, but the 2Gb file size limit is only with some operating systems. The default settings allow for a 4Gb table data file, and it can be increased if needed.
Uhm, no, it's pretty much like that in many big companies as well. If you've been reading slashdot, you could have read about the support guy that tapped a managers computer and found that he only spend 10% of his time working. I'd have to say that's about how much I worked in my last full time job. (Which I tried to get fired from, but eventually just had to quit.)
Computers have helped productivity so much, but many companies still have all these jobs for people. It's a shame really, because the whole business world could run on an hour or two instead of the 8+ hours that many people need to see you in the office.
It seems like every time for the first visit to the comment area on the site, it's totally messed up. Usually not able to see anything.
It would be nice is slashdot gave a damn about firefix users. Even microsoft.com renders better than this!
This one has been known for awhile, and is only avaible to licensees of Macromedia Central. I believe that this requires a downloadable from flash installation of the new API. ( see the new AIM client in flash here: http://www.macromedia.com/software/central/product info/gettingstarted/, not that it works on my linux box... I don't allow flash to write to the disk.)
The other thing they mention is "AIM presence" which is a fancy term for the little online indicator grahpics that have been available to ICQ and yahoo users for years.
A company that doesn't support any social issues
or
A company that actively goes against issues you believe in?
The point is that any company openly supporting certain issues will alienate /some/ of it's cusomters.

Windows updates use keys to identify real MS updates. They'd have to crack the key and do a DNS poisoning for there to be a problem.

since there is no power hookup in the back. yeah, and the 450GB hard drive.
For example if you search for: ~hot
You'll get the tracking links. I think it's random on many searches, but on ~ searches, they always have it.
"the code is entirely open" links to 404 not found. I guess it's not as open as they thought.
It's true. The only LCD pixel problem I've seen is on my Sony laptop. (and believe me, I checked) Even my cheapo V7 monitor runs better.
you mean the members only link? no thanks. I'm looking for a non soul selling link.
I just saw that they don't think it'll be coming to the Series 1 Tivo's, so I don't have anything to worry about... just a reason not to upgrade.
I assume there is some other info ad that pops up, this is hardly troublesome.
Does anyone have a screenshot of this ad? I'm reserving judgements till I actually see the damn thing.

If you do have a table using up 2Gb in data, it's probably a good idea to optimize it a little and pull out some of that data with a table_detail.

well, they do USE open source. Their OS is based on Red Hat Linux.
Yet another reason to hate Canada. Them maple loving, MS software using, pot smokers ;-)
