  1. Must create the need on Is Google Planning To Fibre Britain? · · Score: 1

I can get FTTP if I want to, but why should I when I can get a 20/2 megabit ADSL for half the price.

Ok, I can see the geeky coolness in having a 50/50 or even 100/100 megabit internet connection. But it the real world I have no use for it. In reality I did almost fine on a 4 megabit, it was a little on the slow side for HD streaming, but the few hours between work and sleep I hardly had time to notice.

(the fact that the fiber was coming to my town was the reason the phone company a micro DSLAM in my neighborhood, before that the maximum waa 4 megabit and they had no plans to upgrade. But that is another story)

No but the WD TV player http://www.wdc.com/en/products/WDTV/ can play h.264 mkv etc in 1080p. I consider it to be cheap, just make sure to get the version with networking.

I am not sure if it can do different framerate directly to the tv properly(if the TV supports them).

Locally I can never find a open/free hotspot.
Also I found it amusing that the country that has such a terror scare, has so many businesses offering free WiFi without any registration. We have some stupid anti-terror laws that requires eveyone that offers WiFi to register every user and log what they are doing.

I was wondering too what had happened to Discovery Channel(the european version). So I googled a bit for it and found a press release from about 2007(I think), where they said that they had always been very technical but now they wanted to focus more on the people than the technology.

Which explains why their primetime is filled with people fighting about how to build a car, a motorcycle, fish crabs or cry their hearts out about why they want that ugly tatoo.

Some games have better versions than others. The best I have found so far has been Forza 2 (and 3). I tried some of the Need for speed games and a lot of corners was straightened and inclines and declines were not as steep. Forza did however had one or two places where the jumps almost made me fly and in the real world it was just one of those places where you shouldnt try to break or turn.
Driving a virtual version of cars in Forza that I have tried in real life was pretty close when it came to speed/engine power. The standard tire setup were a bit off though(less grip). Its not that I am a expert though, I think I have only taken about 30-40 laps on the real ring.

I have tried to train in Forza to remember the turns better but I had a problem relating many of the places to real life. I see the more famous places and remember the cell phone tower and other places. I took like 30 laps in Forza without being able to remember enough , 20 laps in real life seemed to help much better.

On my trip to the US(Chicago), I was surprised to see all the open WiFi hotspots so many places. I used them often with my iPhone to Skype home and save 2$ pr. minute.
With the current anti-terror laws in many EU countries you have to register and log everything, making providing hotspots a real pain in the a.. and I find it rare to see free open hotspots anywhere. But it might just have been the places I have visited.

People are already using Mini's as servers, there are co-lo's that offer Mac Mini's as "servers". Others are using them as display servers for overhead screens in their commandcenter with their OS X based system.(saw an article somewhere about some police command center that used a OS X based system)
So there is many places where you already can find racks of Mac Minis today so I'd say there is a demand for server minis with RAID disks.

Indeed. I am surprised at the amount of comments about booting BSOD etc. I thought that people here would about remote control.

It's not rocket science anymore. I have managed about 100 servers on a remote location for a couple of years and only had to visit them once or twice every month. If I had to install new servers, I would just go there and install the hardware and then head back to the office for the software installation.
Most of the time they should just have a standard image installed but when I needed to mount a CD-ROM for installation I would mount a .ISO via a remote server.

We monitored the hardware and the co-lo monitored temperature and power usage in the racks.

It really should not be a problem for Microsoft to get their Engineers to use remote servers.
