  3. Re:The title is overzealous on Overzealous AirTran Boots 9 Passengers Off · · Score: 5, Insightful

The passengers were at fault for being racists and reporting a non-issue. The airline was not at fault for handing the matter over to the FBI when the issue was reported. The FBI did the right thing by clearing the family. However, the airline WAS at fault for refusing to let the family fly on any future flight even after they had been cleared by the FBI. There's no legitimate (non-discriminatory) reason to do that given the circumstances.

These people likely had their whole vacation planned, and this incident screwed up their plans. One article said they were going to a religious conference, and it's unlikely that conference was delayed while they tried to make other travel arrangements. On top of all of that, they were made to feel like second-class citizens simply because they were brown and Muslim.

They have good cause for a lawsuit against the airline, and I think they should file one. I'm not talking millions of dollars here, but the airline needs to get slapped in court to make them think twice next time a situation like this crops up.

The fact that incidents like this keep happening show that bin Laden and his cohorts succeeded beyond their wildest dreams on 9/11.

Christ man, this discussion is already destined to devolve into the same old political flamewar 90% of every other discussion around here ends up in without you trying to actively stoke the fires by taking the opportunity to slam the "left wing media".

I know kdawson loves conspiracy theories, so I'll give him my conspiracy theory: kdawson only has a job because Slashdot needs the tax breaks they get for hiring mentally challenged people. This would also explain samzenpus.

It's a very short and simple read, so if you really hate your kids you could read it to them and make them want to grow up to be sysadmins. A warning, however: steering your children toward system administration is considered child abuse in some states.

The amazing part is it can do all that while sending out thousands of pieces of spam every day!

Seriously though, while it's true that most people don't need to upgrade as often as they do, software does eventually get EOLed by the vendor and needs to be replaced if you want any support for it. In the case of a Win2k box, it will probably serve just fine for another 1 or 2 years, but I think 5 years is pushing it.

The monthly subscription fee also has a set cost that's easy to budget and control. Each individual micropayment feels cheap, and therefore one might initially be inclined to use them more often. However, even small payments quickly add up, and many small payments are much harder to keep track of than one regular larger payment. Before you know it, you end up getting burned when your monthly credit card statement says you spent a lot more than you intended to, and you swear off micropayments forever.

A monthly subscription model also provides more steady and predictable income to the business. People like micropayments initially because the business things people will spend more and consumers think they'll spend less. When it turns out that micropayments just end up making everything more difficult for everyone, they get dropped.

Then, they introduce the "Idle" section for so-called "humorous" links (man, I was just thinking to myself: there just aren't enough sites out there dedicated to posting "funny" news stories).
