does anyone know what this will mean for the Canadian version of the channel? as I recall a while ago they tried to appeal to have anime added to their programming and couldn't because they had applied as a news channel. I don't think the CRTC would allow them to continue on canadian cable as a all gaming channel since they are supposed to be a news channel.
Aside from your dumbass, arrogant remarks, they already have things like this for two way communications. First they were CB radios and more recently farmers pick up those FRS two way radios (the ones that don't require a licence and can usually be picked up in Radio Shack). We've been able to get as far as 6km out of them (about 3 1/2 miles). I was even thinking one time about hacking some of them so a person can hook up modems to them to send data back and forth between neighboring farms. I don't know if it would've even worked through because I never looked into it.
To the geeks here I say, "Boycott G4 and their sponsers. Write letters to the sponsers. Boycott their lame message boards. Spread the word far and wide."
Why bother. It sounds like they wouldn't care what you say to them, they wouldn't listen anyway. I think just leave them be, and after a while the silence will make them worry more. After all, you make a bunch of noise and at least they know you are watching.
Oh but the part about telling everyone else sounds good.
I'd still have to go to that bookstore across town to get it. Not everyone lives in the states where NYT and USA Today are easily attainable.

I was mentioning this ad in the New York Times the other day to someone at work, and their comment was, "Oh, too bad we can't get the NYT unless we drive across the city to the big bookstore."
Maybe instead of shooting for such an expensive ad that people would only see once, perhaps donations could be made by people and groups to advertise Firefox in their local newspapers, where it is sure to be seen by more people, and cheap enough it could run more then once.
Hey, I'd donate $50 to have it appear in my local newspaper (that would be a small ad in the corner of a page), and if I asked some of my friends I am sure enough could be raised to see it appear more prominently towards the front and in a much more larger size.
I wonder if the foundation who put together the big ad would be interested in such an idea, or even fellow slashdotters?
I did all this as well for my family and relatives. Except even after telling a couple of relatives all the things to do to keep viruses and malware at bay, they decided to ignore my advice.
So after 5 hours of reinstalling their computer OS and applications after a nasty virus wiped out their C drive, I told them in the future I will charge them the same fees as the computer stores in the city. When they whined about it, I simply asked them "WTF should my time be any less valuable then yours?".
That swiftly changed their tunes. They asked me again to show them how to keep their machines working well, and they have not had problems since.
Maybe we should all be more firm with our family on these matters.
That is if you get windows to recognize the USB drive. Our school computers won't recognize anything plugged into the USB ports. I had to get the administrator to set my account up so I could plug in my digital camera and access it. Fortunately the administrator for our school is much nicer. You can approach him and ask to have software installed, and he usually will install it for you.
I'm curious to know how business and individuals have responded to the open source campaign you started. Has there been any interesting success or failures that have encouraged/discouraged your campaign?
I'd also be curious to hear from fellow slashdotters who may be from South Africa. How has his push for open source made inroads in the computer community?
I am interested because I recently find myself in a situation where I will be promoting open source in my own community.
Gee, I wonder. Then again I also wonder why they should have to wait for X amount of years for a software company to come out with an upgrade, run out to a store and buy a copy (or in many cases a new computer) and spend mega dollars on the upgrade.
I am convinced that no matter how simple you make the whole process, there's going to be asshats like this coward who is still going to bitch and complain.
The Canadian Railroad and these Rail-Road Busses

I would love to see how this flies in Canada with the railroad system here. They don't like to share their railroads with anyone (ask the shortlines if you doubt this) and one little secret they rather not let be known is they hate transporting two things: Grain and People. Of course their PR department begs to differ.
But this would be an absolutely brilliant thing in Western Canada in places like Saskatchewan where horrible roads have made travelling by vehicles dangerous. Send these things by rail a large chunk of the distance to a location like Eastend for example, and they can get off and drive the rest of the distance to wherever they need be.
We work with the XL1s and even a standard XL1. They are a great workhorse camera for all our needs. They do have some issues with low lighting, but if you know how to light a scene properly that won't be an issue.
I wouldn't get too caught up on the type of camera you use. A professional camera is great, but if you don't understand composition, know your story, know how to light a scene (and so on) a kickass camera won't help you. A person that understands these and knows how to push the technology of their camera to the limit (even if it is a small inexpensive camcorder) will always make a good movie.
I believe you have a good point. It came out in the court case that monsanto deliberately trespassed onto his property and also sprayed a portion of his crops with weed killer..
If they would go that far, hell why stop there? Lying would be the next logical step.
How is he supposed to have known. At the time this all came about things like genetically modified canola was not well known. Sure he saw something unusual growing in his ditch that didn't die from regular weed killer. He did what any other farmer would have done, he sent the results in, and it was well into the next spring as I recall when he even got the results, long after the new crop had been planted.
He was sued for GM Grain blowing into his field. So what's going to stop this rice from spreading? Because once it gets loose (and it will inevitably), it will mix with regular crops and before long there will be no way to separate it from regular rice.

It is sort of sad to think these actors won't be with us much longer. We used to look up to them as role models as we grew into adults.
At least he got to be around to see his star before he joins them once again.
So long Scotty, and thanks for all the fish (lol)..
I really liked Tokyo Godfathers. It's not up there with many of the other ground breaking anime films, but I like it still nonetheless.
Just the thing to fill that vacant part of my day ensuring that I never see any sunlight ever again. Aaachh!!~~~ natural horrible sunlight..

Actually this sort of reminds me of this story about Finnish Taxi Drivers having to pay royalties.

Did anyone notice that the talkback section of the site was filled with anti-linux posts. A couple of them were really nasty too...
/. crowd. Sheesh.
And they complain about us, the
Broadcasters may "flag" content that is in the public domain.
So they can likely get away with using the broadcast flag, but the real question is will they?
And where do you suppose we will be getting our gear from? hmm? This goes into law, we will be sold the same equipment that you will be.
That would be tought. Guess which company holds a monopoly in Canada on farm spray chemicals??

So when is Gates going to start working on software for the brain?
;-D
Something like Windows Subconscious 2014. The only bad thing is that when the software encounters a bug and reboots, you risk the dangers of dying.
