I've yet to see a photo of him. Let's see his picture. If he looks like my 90 year old grandmother I'll be surprised.
If he looks middle eastern then frankly thats one more 'tick', official or not, on the list of suspected traits.
And if they couldn't verify your address... well, dude, you are there legally, right?
(Yes the police went too far as soon as it was discovered there was no bomb or bomb residue, and searching the flat is a permissible action as they want to be certain, but confiscation is not. But that's not the US there now, is it.)
Unfortunately, other than my work with producing DVDs. 3CCD Camcorders are still out of my price range and an extra 'cost' feature that most of my clients can't afford...
I shoot weddings. With my 10D I get approximately 540 images, RAW, written to the MD. I'll usually pound thru 4 batteries (2x2) in the course of a day event; I have 6 spares.
Assuming I win the lotto and/or can reinvest some of the wedding profit towards a camera instead of my leaking roof, I would move up to a 1Ds, selling for 3K, which writes out 11mb RAW files.
That means a 32gb CF card would store: 2400 images
Your typical wedding/reception lasts 7 hours. Add a couple of the bridesmaids getting dressed (You do NOT want to miss that, HAHAHA) and you're at a 10 hour day.
That means you're taking a frame about every 15 seconds, were you to fill that up.
Cost of film? Let's say you're shooting 35MM instead of medium format (arguably a 1DS is a little less in terms of quality than a Hassy at 16x20, but the customer would probably never see it) then thats 67 rolls of film. A propack of 400NC from BH Photo is 28.45 for 5 rolls, which translates 14 packs at a cost of 400$.
Plus processing, tack on about 10$ per roll and you're at $1000 worth of money.
Where am I going?
No one shoots 3K worth of photos. It's insane. It's insane by even MY standards. But on a trip it's definately worth it to have... and I'm not even adressing the transfer rate issues (my firewire transfer from CF is the fastest in the market at 7MB/sec that would take about 1.25hrs to transfer)
This is an incredible leap forward but the biggest advantage will be the price pressuer on lower sized cards.
After all, drop one of these babies and you're out a pretty penny.
Seriously, check out the group mentality of baggage pickup.
Everyone stands a little ways off, but the MOMENT the belt turns on it turns into a shoving match where EVERYONE MUST BE NEXT TO THE BELT!
Instead of standing 3 steps back, waiting till luggage that looks like yours comes by, walking up, checking it, leaving or pulling it...
Now they get into shoving matches to yank the luggage free and knock their 'neighbors' (whom get pissed off) while trying to remove said dead weight.
So yes, people act responsibly? Never. It's not possible. Any single person will act responsible, but the moment you remove the threat of punishment a free-for-all mentality of "I can get away with this, and tough shit" is born.
- which just means, well, nothing. Businesses do not disclose financial obligations based upon speculation, unless you're being investigated by an agency of the government.
And that's from a licensed dealer who's making money hand over fist as the panels can be had for around 600$, the connection equipment and batteries add up.
Now lets reject the IR into a water-tube to capture that as surplus energy too and we've got a better system that costs less...
One of my dreams has been to have a domed or recessed ceiling that is painted dark dark blue, with sidelights, and have a star pattern of light pipes installed. Multiple fibres to change what's visible and what's not as time goes on.
Problem is, fibres themselves cost way in excess of 2000$ to do... so now I'm contemplating micro LEDs...
Say the cashier remembers you because she thought you were cute.... or scary.... or nervous.
Say there are CCTV tapes that still exist; each is checked for the POS timestamp. Each face is added to a 'question' list. You get a knock on your door when someone recognizes you or from your drivers license photo.
Say you left fingerprints on the paper you used to print the bogus green backs.
Say you go to stock up on Green Dye number 5 and trigger an alert clerk to write down your license plate, since the Feds had already passed out flyers stating to be on the lookout for individuals purchasing large quantities of this ink as it was used to finance terrorism (we all want to help, right?). Never mind the cash reward.
Say you buy more quality linen paper reams and someone notes the sale within 200 miles of your OD.
Say they just get damn lucky and lookup your slashdot ID.
There are hundreds of ways to screw up when you've broke the law. They just need one break. You need a perfect record of not making one.
Eastman Kodak Company is 'deleted' from Google Maps. If you look you'll see that the entire park region and all buildings associated with it are 'gone'. All the imagery shows is the 30 meter resolution which is enough to tell you 'something brown' is present.
Why? Your guess is as good as mine, but we do have loads of chemicals in the plant. And seeing as they used to partner with the company that did the imagery, I can see some reasons why.
You'll also notice that the syracuse airport and the Rochester airport are both missing as well. The buffalo airport is present, as well as JFK.
Conspiracy to protect our softer targets? You decide.
and yes, I should upgrade but money's tight right now.
1) Download from card to 1st HD 2) MD5 checksum every file. 3) Copy to 2nd HD (manual mirror) 4) Confirm MD5 is correct for copy 5) Burn 2 DVDs on different media types. 6) Catalog disc with thumbnails (ThumbsPlus) 7) Catalog files on disc 8) Put 1 DVD in the Century CD DVD unit jukebox 9) Put 1 DVD offsite. Repeat.
For larger images, use nero's "Back-it'up' to make a larger copy.
Occasionally buy a 250gb or 160gb HD and copy every file over, then take it offline.
Seems to work for now, but as you can imagine it's starting to get aggressive in terms of power usage.
I recently upgraded my desktop at work with two high end LCDs (for testing purposes, of course) and the 21" CRT on the left.
Results so far:
21" CRT is not as sharp, but very low eyestrain. 23" LCD (Sony, 1600$) can't be run at full resolution in digital mode, requires a new card (no problem on the Dell) 20" LCD (Dell, 400$) works just fine at 1680x1050 from the card.
Mottle in the LCDs drives me crazy- I keep trying to clean them to get rid of the speckles.
Grey response is poor, low end flare is high (non-shiny surface (ie matte) scatters ambient).
All in all I'll take my desk-bowing 21" CRT anyday.
And yeah, I work specifically for calibrating and testing monitors.
I don't have the link to my previous slashdot post that talked about their previous attempts... but I gotta tell ya I'm surprised they've made so much progress in so little time.
Actually, they fly a helicopter over and catch the falling parachute and bring it down, so technically there is no manner in which anyone could be 'hit on the head' since the object rarely ever touched the ground. These returns were too valuable to allow to crash uncontrolled to the surface- their point of return was very carefully mapped and controlled.
I scoured past articles for this.. but could not find it. There was reference to the steps a guy had to go thru to get FAA approval for launching a balloon- contacting the airport controller, etc, and no one had any clue how to do it.
I saw no mention of permits (before slashdotting) of this sort of information being obtained.... which has me rather worried.
Yes, the odds of coming in contact with a commercial jet at altitudes between 11,000 and 29,000 is probably very small, and and yes it was only a small payload (talk about scaring the shit out of a pilot seeing it up there), but I'd still feel rather safer knowing that the FAA was alerted to a possible flight hazard on a lane- perhaps it should have had a simple radar reflector to show its location?
Wish I could have seen the photos, but I was too busy reading.
I look at large large images in 'roam' mode on the screen, so that I can view a 25Kx25K (typical scan from a Leica scanner) image.

3x is typically the image increase that you see transitioning to digital, so divide my numbers by three and you'll get accurate film usage :)

After all, those people up there build their homes where it's cold- if they get hit with 12 feet of snow, tough shit.
And Florida- let them drown in hurricanes.
Hell, Texas is half Migrant anyway, so let them fend for themselves (shoot'em all).
Best place to live? Kansas- just watch out for the tornadoes.
I agree- I'm sick at paying for piss-poor building codes but the union works because we all carry the burden when someone else needs it.
And your tune would change when it's you that needs it.

I feel sorry for you. Can't get a normal female so you're just moving down the species list...
3x for work because two of the auto-installs didn't work, 2x for Liz's comp, 1x for my laptop, 3x for burning CDs for people and my comp.
So... bitshift.

Check back in 3 months.
At least the article's animation was smaller than the apple mov file. Or was that the point?
When I was married last month my suit had been 'fixed' with a cheap fabric that was not the same as the original material.
d /CRW_8244_19.html
This fabric reflected IR light at a different % than the rest of the material, resulting in every photo having 1 black arm 1 grey arm.
(I'm using a modified digital Rebel that had the IR filter removed and replaced with an IR pass filter).

BUT... if you want stuff to last, buy AgX prints. There's 100+ years of technology in that...
Not much.
A drum of ink, if memory serves, was around a couple of hundred dollars to synthesize. 55 gallons of purified, strained dye ink.
Now pigmented ink- thats far more expensive. The good ones are nano-milled which add (if memory serves) 300$ per kg to the production cost.
Ink is cheap.
The research, however, is very very expensive.
