Depends on what you're using to copy the CD.
My guess is that if you use a commercially available audio componant CD writer, you most likely would have no choice but to use the RIAA-mandated music CD-R media... But my guess is also that most knowledgeable (and even the not-so-knowledgeable)people would be using computer CD writers to do it, thus negating that need. That is, of course, unless they don't have a computer)
I hate to admit it, but after reading the article and looking at the pic, I gotta say I want one ...
Unobtrusive, sexy, and easy-to-use...
Only problems are :
a) Cost
and
b) Lack of software.. (Luckily they seem to include most of the software you'd want to use with the hardware tho...)
Not to mention the fact that it's becoming kinda hard to find a place to buy apple computers in oz nowadays.:-(
As I've said before, I really don't think it would be a bad idea for Apple port Windows to the mac. That would at least solve the lack of software, and if they could get the Mac running windows software faster than PC hardware can (wouldn't be too hard to do), then they'd have another selling point. As long as they kept the port in-house, they wouldn't lose their stranglehold on the OS for Macs either...
Damnit, I think I *will* buy one of these once they come out, and I've saved up the cash.
Funny thing is that they say in the article that Steve should bundle a windows emulator with the imac. Though it's not a bad idea, I think a better idea would be for Apple to port windows to the mac. Emulation is too slow. they would have to do it themselves tho and not allow Microsoft to do it, or they'd find themselves ousted by the big M.
Best solution, IMHO : Apple creates a new underlying virtual machine operating system to allow for apple-ported windows (AWE, or Apple Windows Environment) and os X to run concurrently.
Unfortunately, you just can't do without windows these days...
So far, it's broken almost every box-office record for an opening movie over here in Oz.
This includes biggest opening day, biggest opening weekend, and biggest opening week.
As of 2/1/02, it had already grossed 18 million dollars here. Don't have any more recent stats, sorry..
Also, world movies is good for some of the more intense "out-there" stuff you won't see on any other stations, although admittedly it is only a cable channel, and you do have to be a good subtitle-reader to enjoy the films (tho this won't be a problem if you watch SBS on a regular basis:->).
At least they get blown up...Could be fun to watch:-)
On another note, I hope you guys who are forming opinions about the movie now get the shock of your lives. Jar-jar is only in the movie very briefly, so I heard, and this movie has the potential to kick the crap out of ep 1 - if what I've read about the plot is correct. N-sync probably won't even be that much of a distracting factor, after all it's the storyline that matters.

Over here in Oz, gift certificates almost exclusively have "not redeemable for cash" printed in big letters on the back of the certificate. So no go on that...
However, I've never seen gift-cards here. We're still using paper (and it seems, just as well that we are).
U'd better keep that old copy of your burning software and that old CDR burner then...Because I can almost guarantee you they'll include some kind of analogue watermark as well to stop future "compliant" burners from copying protected music through an analogue source. I'd find it highly unlikely that the record company hasn't thought of that possibility.
Still, it's not as if some smart coder won't come up with a program to remove the watermark, given enough time.
I'm really sad to see them go...was one of the few websites I still visit on a regular basis, but there's no reason why P2P filesharing or a binary newsgroup can't fill the gap created.
Maybe if osX was to go multi-platform, then I'd care... But, as it is, the whole argument of BEOS vs osX is pointless, as no-one who doesn't own a mac can use osX and BEOS is all but dead (Please palm prove me wrong!)...
The local @home partner (Optus) here in Oz bought out our local division of excite@home. So no big problems here at all, we even get to keep our e-mail addresses:-) Only thing is there were a few small glitches a few weekends ago as they were transferring everyone over to new non-@home server infrastructure and new ip-addressing scheme. They did the whole shebang in one weekend.
My god.... I'd say that was intentional damage by looking at those photos!
Hey, anyone want to try an experiment?
Get an old 386 in a tower case - something you wouldn't mind losing, or something you'd actually *LIKE* to see mangled (eg : That old pentium that won't stop BSODing in Windows and that you can't get Linux to work properly on.)...
...And ship it UPS with "kick me" written on the box instead of "fragile":-)
I'd like to see how mangled a condition the box is in wen it arrives at its' destination:-)
...Of course, they'd probly leave it alone and it'll arrive in pristine condition, but you'd sorta expect that:-)

Doesn't surprise me one bit....
Apple needs all the hype it can get with this one, it says so in the article itself....

The new imac looks a bit strage...But still cool.

Just been checking out some "leaked" plotlines around the net...
Probly all bullshit tho, you know how it goes....
Then you've obviously not watched SBS :-)

I grew up on AstroBoy. Glad to see it's coming back on the big screen, should be a good movie! :-)

"Why so smart people never gets profit of they work?"
I think it's because they're decent people that won't double-cross anyone. History has shown that you don't get rich by being nice.
I think given what I've read and seen here in 15-20 minutes they understand their markets are mainly corporate
:-)
Pity the dot-com bubble burst.
Not this one.... She's a wrinkley old fart :-)
Course, if that's what gets you hot....
Seems to be reasonably stable now... But let's see how things pan out long-term.
IMHO, I can't see any major problems looming tho...
Can't remember her name now, but the host is a female actor who used to be on "Home & Away", a popular (god knows why)soapie over here...

That's $189 for an extra gigabyte of data!
There are accounts that have higher limits, but they're so overpriced no-one in their right mind would sign up for them.
Of course, there are other options (such as our local @home which has a "10x the average" limit), but they don't have very wide availability.
Ha! I fart in your general direction!
Anyone do a DIVX of it? I'd love to watch it, but I'm in Oz so we just get the stupid local version...
Actually, talking from personal experience, you're right...
Still, if a box is marked fragile, you'd sorta hope they'd put it towards the TOP of the pile of boxes in the truck rather than the bottom....
My god.... I'd say that was intentional damage by looking at those photos!

Looks like a mini hi-fi without the speakers :-)
:-)
Still pretty cool tho... But they should add speakers and front-panel controls for the DVD to play CDs etc and this would be real neat
