I appreciate your insight but I would like to point out that marketing theories usually align themselves with the real world, not the other way around.
Have you ever studied what caused the dark ages? Have you ever studied things like the effects of the collapse of the Roman Empire? Do you realize where the little surviving information that we have about the dark ages comes from? Have you considered the role and effects of the catholic church on such things as the position of women, the widespread raping, pillaging etc. that was going on during the dark ages?
If you study the enlightenment you will see that christianity has done much to further scientific thought. I am not implying in any way that christian religious organizations have never done anything to impede science btw. Contrary to your claims christianity is not incompatible with scientific thought.
you cannot prove that the earth is not the center of the universe. The center of the universe may theoretically be located under my keyboard's shift key for example.
People are rightly suspicous of the USA's professed motive to "Spread freedom and Democracy" because the very same USA has a history of supporting many a dictatorial regime. Just to name a few examples:
The USA supported the shah of Iran in his struggles with the popular democratic movement (not to be confused with the islamic revolution)
The USA supported Suharto of Indonesia who's regime was responsible for the killing of up to a million citizens
Obviously the USA has supported Saddam Hussein of whom everyone knew that he wasn't really an agent of freedom and democracy
Currently the usa is supporting Musharaf of Pakistan who wasn't exactly elected democratically
I believe that the USA has done many a good thing abroad. However it has also clearly been guilty of meddling in affairs of other countries against the popular will of the people of those countries.
In Sparta both girls and boys were required to do military training, to harden their bodies they trained in the nude for things like gymnastics. In this sense the movie (book?) is more or less accurate, of course that was convenient for making the movie attractive to people.
Starship troopers was heavily influenced by Plato's description of Spartan society (citizens etc.). I agree that much about the movie sucked but there was actually more depth to it than commonly perceived.
maybe because ie comes standard and is the default browser on all machines running windows? Do most users actually know what a browser is? Or is it just internet explorer, just like you have windows explorer?
With wiki, Osama Bin Laden can edit the entry for Jihad, there is far less chance that he will have anything to do with the entry in say the Britannica.
I had read about Jihad before although more in the historical context. The information presented by the Wikipedia entry seems fairly decent even though I think there is still plenty left to nitpick.
I only took Jihad as an example because it is a fairly charged word which may easily provoke emotional response. My concern with Wikipedia is that the definitions of words about which entrants have strong feelings will not be entirely balanced.
For some things it's good but for others I don't really trust it. Take for instance a word like Jihad, the definition may vary greatly from written by a muslim fundamentalist to an american redneck.
Who remembers SimFarm? Not really great, not really bad. The game had some flaws, if you would buy livestock in a cold climate the animals would never go outside and never eat since the feed was outside. They would still procreate and grow up though.
afaik "travellers" are very much a uk thing. Some of them may have made it into Europe (southern france etc.) but I don't think too many will have made it to the UK.
Well don't know about stability but I won't install 0.9 until I can use the tabbrowser extensions with it. They should incorporate those things into the standard distribution.
Stealth is only of so much use on ships. Naval vessels should be worried about their acoustic signature too. I bet a sonar operator wouldn't think this ship is particularly stealthy.
Been going to kids movies? No seriously, the trick is to not go to movies to early. After about 9 o'clock there aren't too many kids around usually (apart from the odd exception).
Whenever I have seen an atm crashed it was running windows. I guess that's why I thought most ATM's ran windows, now when I think about it again I realize that most ATM's that I've seen crashed ran windows, quite a difference I guess. It's funny how blue screens have made me realize that a lot of things actually run windows (things like train arrival time information systems, advertising video walls etc. etc.)
Nothing special about Sony these days. Until somewhere in the early 90's they made decent stuff, now they make plastic junk like all the rest of the electric co's.
Strange that they don't mention that Philips was in the same situation as Sony for a while. IIRC they owned a large record label (can't remember which one) but sold it. They were after all the company that brought out the double cd player (player + recorder). I think they still own a classical label though.
don't see no rush.

oh sorry, I'm pretty tired... so could be.
running around in darkened rooms, listening to techno whilst taking pills, hmmm, not far from what young people are up to nowadays I guess.
You probably mean everything in a technological sense. IMO sociologically it's quite different.

Most of the wars in this list of 20th century wars don't have any videogames. Maybe I should send the link to some game-makers.
